Sadly as part of it - and for not much longer - I have finally woken up to the fact that Cryptic is slowly with all the new doffs/skills/ships/reps/passives/traits - eliminating PvP - through attrition.
It's a beautiful strategy if it is intentional - I am not sure - but if it is - cudos to Cryptic it's a strategy that works!!
You see they may -as in I don't know their business strategies - really want to remove it outright- but that would be a big PR disaster- so what do you do - this is what I would do:
1) you neglect doing any fixes for years
2) you then make it almost impossible for new players to participate
3) finally you add so many things that just totally destroy most of the players except the extreme hard core
4)you keep saying next season or the one after that or the one after that.
5) Finally when you do say our data shows there are only 5 players left - then removing it from the game has no major PR problems
The stratagey is beautiful and elegant - it works for the Gov't - just look at a lot of the local infrastructure.
Bravo!!
Anyone who doubts this is living in Denial - and I don't mean Egypt!
(sorry if I come off a little harsh on you guys - but I waited 10 min of my life in the KDF Q's this morning before just giving up - so I am a little irritated.)
I think it's a little strong to say that they want to get rid of it since any MMO worth anything has a PvP function. I believe it's more appropriate to say that they either just don't care about it given the amount of attention that we (the PvPers) get from the Devs, or that it's just a pipe dream on the back-burner.
Over the years Cryptic has assigned devs to PvP, however all of them left Cryptic within weeks of being assigned to this area of the game.
At this point though I don't know how we could make Cryptic move on the PvP section, perhaps it's time to dust off an old idea that was announced years ago (then quickly pulled back because of backlash) and try it again.
I'm talking about the elected community representatives that EVE has made work for several years now; it's not the best idea, but if Cryptic designated a slot for the PvP community then we might have a chance at getting real and positive changes in the game if we have a chance to make Cryptic pay attention to people who actually understand the game.

Well from what I have seen PvP is far from dead. I see new players almost every day in Ker'rat. And I believe that number is increasing as newer players, with some returning, are attempting to test thier new Romulan Warbirds. This with the fix of Ker'rat spawns is promising. But perhaps you are accurate? Time will be the only thing that tells. The PvP community here is more or less just a collection of the players that enjoy the game in a sense of competitive combat from one ship to another. That does exist in a great many other games, but none have ships I enjoy to see slugging it out like this game.
PvP was discussed as being removed. I do not see that happening as the newest ships primarily sell to players that wish to PvP in some form or fashion with those ships.
sorry if I come off a little harsh on you guys - but I waited 10 min of my life in the KDF Q's this morning before just giving up - so I am a little irritated.
If you want to have PvP in STO get rid of the space and focus resources on the ground pvp only for its there that it can really excel with the multitude of different ground modes like capture the flag, team death match, free for all, domination like in Neverwinter and zombie mode maybe even haud mode. Kind of like no win but on the ground you have to survive wave after wave of random npc enemies.
Things like this would really open the flood gates for pvp in STO and make it viable not to mention fun , unlike the space pvp which is by far the worst and biggest waste of money and player time lol.
Actually, If pvp recieved a few changes it'd be fixed.
Nerf to the amount of buffs you can use
Buff/Nerf to some skills that need it (like buff to sci regen skills, and nerf to some Cc or Tac buffs)
Buff to federation (maybe a third engineering slot) to bring them up to part with the other races

I think you may be on to something with the ground idea, But its star-trek, not a FPS.
There is lots of fun options ofr pvp in space, and i think it should go away from mechanics like the group ones you mentioned (and i agree with).
I think it would be great if we could make the Factions behalf like the maps in the cardassian command center at the end of DS9
where the factions are trying to take space, but there is fleets going to attack.
I think Space pvp should work on these principles, to protect its races space, and conquer more or hold what they have. Strategy based MMO play, for lack of a better way to put it.
But i think one major thing that this needs to be added, and thats LARGER GROUPs
for the PvP in sto to really take a serious effect.
Imagine 100 vs 100 ships in stop fighting. I know it may be laggy as hell but there is fixes, but just imagine... Great things start with a simple single dream.
Nothing is worthless. PVE is easy mode... and more toons = more dilithium for your rom toons.
talking about pve...you know when you play sb24 or other fleet event trying to get a now useless mk XI purple item ,well you can warp out when you seea romulan ship ,no chance to get first place when a ship is being able to outheal a healer or do more damage than even the best escorts in game. They screwed PvE aswel, not only pvp.
We have a legacy of Romulus at the loading screen ....play romulan or gtfo should be there too.
Ok ,I find that true and disturbing.Time spent on your old toons maybe means nothing for cryptic but it sure means alot for people.
you know that wont make me want to play romulans...
Solution: create a mechanic that encourages people to spend money on the
game for their old toons.
a great example of this
Sell star-base rental slots in open sector for 10$ a month. so that
people can buy a slot to allow public to enter their star-base,
even get quests etc.

they can sell apartments on esd/Qnos and make people grind to make the unique and give as rewards some costumes or borgatron 3000 usable on stfs maps (as seen with jetpacks on Risa). That would make pve'ers grind and would never affect pvp. There are 10000 ways to get money without TRIBBLE people's work .Check other f2p mmos and see how many stuffs they have in their stores ...they could fill the store with stuffs ...was looking the other day in Rift's store, that game has more stuffs in the store than STO has missions.
I mean its not that hard ,they dont have to reinvent the wheel ,other mmos have expansions and dont TRIBBLE their players builds with each update.
sorry if I come off a little harsh on you guys - but I waited 10 min of my life in the KDF Q's this morning before just giving up - so I am a little irritated.
Could I perhaps recommend the OPvP channel? That way you won't have to pug. And you know when will be a good time to PvP.

It is said the best weapon is one that is never fired. I disagree. The best weapon is one you only have to fire... once.

QQ more, the real strength of the community is the ppl that will keep it together and those are the ones that keep it alive.
QQrs like you will eventually fail and be miserable, you havent been here for years, you're probably one of those after f2p newbs
Sadly as part of it - and for not much longer - I have finally woken up to the fact that Cryptic is slowly with all the new doffs/skills/ships/reps/passives/traits - eliminating PvP - through attrition.
Who the **** are you? And don't let the door hit you on your way out.
We've lost many players over the years, and new ones have taken their place.
Okay. Obviously judging by the last few posts, this topic is going in the wrong direction.
I agree, that the original poster is doing a little too much QQing, but... with reason.
Assuming he is a ground PvPer, he has pretty much been screwed out of PvPing altogether. I mean, with these new doff packs ground PvP no longer exists. Personally being popular to ground PvP, I feel as if going into ground with these new doffs floating around is purely a waste of my time as one super buffed attack from a tactical officer with a split beam pretty much clears out an entire team. And after discussing it with most of the rest of the ground community, everyone feels about the same.. so of course the ques will be dead and you will end up waiting a lot longer than 10 mins to get a pop. Cryptic has finally eliminated ground PvP altogether.
I can understand the frustration but, threatening to leave isn't the way to go about getting it fixed. Making a flame thread and sounding intelligent and determined to have the situation resolved would probably work out better and probably gain you more support.
Now, to the ones who are basically saying gtfo... stop being such trolls. The guy is trying to call attention to a problem that obviously needs to be addressed. Even if he isn't doing it properly, lets try to be professional and set a good example on how it should be done.

"Working as intended"... 1 year later they "fix" it.
If just the OPvP regs were left as the only PvPers, I would be fine with it.
We still have enough players to make tourneys. The players without fleets would just get merged into the fleets that needed them.
We would be fine. And the truly persistent PvPers wouldn't Q.Q and leave anyway, so we'd get better as a result. Cull the weak I say!
An elitest attitude in the PvP community?? Shocking - I thought the PvE game base who were claiming they don't want to PvP because of an Elitest attitude was all just a figment of their imagination.
Good luck with Cryptic ever doing anything more with PvP with just the OPvP regs left in the game.
Hrmmm, I'm nobody too. Outside of logging in for about an hour to putz about with a Floater on all my guys to get the Risian Corvette somewhere down the road...er...I don't play anymore. Folks at various points in their Rep grinds that I was spending too much time each day doing...stalled. Working on the two one-man fleets mixed in with the Rep grinds...stalled. Spending as much time on Tribble as Holo testing things...stalled.
Folks came before, folks left before, folks will come after, folks will leave after...it happens. It's pretty easy to be dismissive of it - turnaround happens. Folks have had good friends leave, so it's easy for them not to care about some random schlubs that popped up from time to time.
Still, think folks need to consider why folks have left or are barely still here on the fringe. There are folks that leave out of boredom, folks that leave because they found a new shiny elsewhere, because of real life events, because of XYZ...and generally speaking, the majority of those reasons don't mean diddly squat to the remaining players.
Often though, players can end up too focused on what they're doing in the game and they lose a sense of what's going on with the overall game. There will be things that happen to the game, and they'll be blindsided by them in a sense - caught off guard - surprised, eh? They'll turn on Cryptic in a heartbeat and launch tirade after tirade against them. /cough Heh, I've been there...ahem.
Thing is, though...if those same players would step back for a moment - go lurk or even participate in other areas of the forums...they'll see that so much of what is being added to the game is being added at the request of other players. Some folks would call those players...really bad...I prefer to call them very casual, it's less insulting, imho.
For everything that Player A might call ludicrously OP, there's that Player B telling Cryptic that they're almost there...they just need a little more, just a little more...so that Player B can finally manage to accomplish tasks that Player A completely takes for granted.
Posting over in the Tribble area during the LoR beta...yep, that's what did me in. There was anger. There was frustration. I figured all those folks, oh so many folks, had to be trolling. There was no way folks could be that bad. I'm average at best, there's no way folks could be as bad at the game as they were coming off in those discussions. Just felt like pulling my hair out or punching my screen...it got pretty bad there.
Then bam, the epiphany thing...they weren't trolling. Looking around at other sections of the forums, stepping back a little more each time, it started to become pretty crystal clear that they weren't trolling. Given the sheer numbers of them, it was impossible to continue thinking that perhaps they were just that bad...it was the realization that STO is an extremely casual game. It hit like a nerf bat...a frozen nerf bat.
Suddenly, so many things that Cryptic had been doing that looked outright...well...yeah, insert your expletives of choice...all made sense. It also made sense that Cryptic was going to continue down said path - a path that might look outright...more expletives...to some - but one that obviously made the most sense for the intended playerbase of the game.
One of the easiest ways to see this is to sit back for a moment and consider the following:
The "typical" MMO adds harder and harder content...adding more powerful stuff with that content. It's an endless cycle of the endgame...harder content/better gear.
Then look at STO. OOPSIE!
Harder content's not being introduced - heck, the content tends to be nerfed - while more and more powerful stuff is constantly added.
It's allowing more and more casual players to "accomplish" stuff in the game that others take for granted.
Bully for Cryptic - increase the playerbase - increase the revenue - sustain the game - add to the game.
Yet, for folks that are not so casual, eh? What can they do with that gear? There's PvP...
...and yeah, it's only going to get worse.
So folks can rag on the OP all they want...ignorance must be bliss.
Man!
As if they ever did anything but introduce annoyances into the game.
I'm used to it, I'm not leaving until the servers shut down.

Grind 4 the win
I got to Tier 5 on Rep today tho on my Rommie
so pvp will be romulans vs romulans?
then they should delete all old characters...theres no reason to fill the database with useless stuffs.
id never stop useing my fed and kdfs. roms arent so good that they are worthless, not even close
Cryptic would prefere you stop playing your old toons and roll a new one every 6-9 months.
Its good business.
Nothing is worthless. PVE is easy mode... and more toons = more dilithium for your rom toons.

Just A team and B team - totally random
It exists in game of mixing KDF and FED - it's vs NPC's - but how hard could that be to make it for PvP?
1 day worth of coding at most?? Is PvP not even worth that much resources to Cryptic?
Yeah i started after F2P - and you should be DAMN worried about new players leaving - eventually no-one (almost no-one) will be left.
That's my point in the OP - attrition - new people leave/won't start - and then the worse happens over time you get attrition of the old PvP players
Viola - numbers are so low - Cryptic can say just like Gozer did - we should probably just pull PvP out altogether.
Done.
