I do not have a huge ship collection. I do not spend money on Lockbox ships. I have not bought a single ship since my current shuttle, and I am perfectly happy with it, and my main ship, and I have no reason to buy more.
So why am I locked out of 90% of all purchases available in the game?
I really want to support this game, it's not my ideal Star Trek game, but it's getting there. But I have no way to support it. I can't use lockbox ship consoles on other ships, and the Lobi store sets are less effective if you put them on anything but their corresponding Lobi, and Lockbox ships, so I'm in no rush to get those. I really like cosmetic items, but their aren't very many of those.
I mean, even with
Legacy of Romulus, the
"Biggest update yet", we've had exactly two C-Store costumes.
Two. Both of them for Romulans. The last Federation C-Store outfit was the Racing Jumpsuits. The single KDF C-Store outfit is feeling really lonely.
Where are the extra Alien parts? Extra hairstyles? The lovely costumes by William Ware Theiss? The Mirror Odyssey uniforms? The boob-window Klingon coats? The various Dabo Girl outfits? Risan costumes? The straps of cloth the Edo call clothing? Hats?
So for those of us who do not like to buy ships.... could we have more things to spend money on?
Pretty please Cryptic?

As the topic goes, it is not about ships. But what about costumes. The other day I bought a Ferasan and they have the standard KDF costume options. As I have said in another post, why no extra packages, costumes, pets and a shuttle? I would really like to see that and certainly consider to buy it.
And make account unlocks. Stuff for characters in a game like this? Nah, sometimes I want to delete character and roll again but I don't want to loose things I already paid for, you copy?
I would like to see more uniform options for all factions, especially the damned TNG and Voyager bundles people have been asking for constantly. That's a big money-maker right there, and Cryptic is just letting it slip from their fingers.
But I think before Cryptic starts delivering more uniforms and whatnot, they really ought to fix all the current tailor bugs and clipping issues first.
THIS.
Alternatively, if they are not going to fix those bugs, then they could release more clothes because they would probably get affected the same way. SO, bugs stay but we get more clothes. It would be a crazy trade-off ...
I think it's been mentioned that the DS9 bundle didn't sell very well/as much as they were expecting, so they've been slow to make more. I know I'd buy either of them, though. Whichever came out first. I just want my ship interior to not look generic and crappy.
Then, if they sell good, then go down the list, and make the 2nd place winner in the vote. Once they get the majority of the software complete, the small cosmetic changes should be easy to do to get the others out that didn't have the highest votes.
They can still make money off it, and everybody gets what they want. Does this sound like a good idea? Just thought that since someone said the DS9 didn't sell good, just might not have been what the majority wanted.
and make it CROSS FACTION COSTUMES
newest tribble notes:
KDF has exactly One C-Store Costume, there surely is a exploitable market on KDF side. Give us more costumes for our Orions, Gorns and other races.
Hair Packs and packs with more Alien-Parts wouldn't be so bad either.
I actually don't understand what the problem is. I've bought a few good ships from the zen store and many other things like costumes etc, all have been well worth it.
So forgive me, but I truly don't understand the problem? If you want to support the game, why not buy things you like , from the zen store, they are available if you have the correct amount of zen in your account...
Granted I do agree that some things are overpriced, yet if you compare it to other online games, STO is pretty dang fair, and players get quite spoiled.
Theory, if one's not happy , don't play.
If you are, then play. And if you truly want to support the game, get zen then get stuff from the zen store.
You think $50 is Macrotransaction ????
For me is $1 to $5.

Did you actually read what I said? I have purchased ships from the C-Store. Quite a few. I own almost every single C-Store costume. Outside of the two Romulan costumes, it has been well over a year since the last C-Store uniform. Klingons only have one. We get a new ship at least every month. The problem is, I want more things that are not ships.
We savvy?
Yes please. This is why I bought the KDF costume in the first place.
Besides, it doesn't have to just be costumes. Those are just what I like best. Why can't we have more unique races and weird bridge officers? Things like Exocomps, Hortas, and Medusans as crew members?
It would be great!
As much as I think we'd all love it, trying to get gear to work with a horta BOFF would be a lose-lose nightmare for Cryptic, there is literally no way to do it that lets them come out on top with the community happy.
Either it's a buggy coding nightmare and they lose money on it because there's no way to pay for the dev hours at 600zen per sale. Or they just toss out a non-customizable horta that can have guns magically floating in the air in front of it and that wears armor and has 4 device slots.
Sadly, we're basically stuck with many of the same limitations as the original series special effects team for basically the same reason: limited budget combined with limited technology.
That said, they have been making some very interesting attempts to expand. More pets and other similar temp allies can go a long way to bring the tech up in steps, which might keep it affordable and prevent it from breaking and being a nightmare. So it's possible down the road we might see something.
For me, I'd really rather just have more costumes, even if they clip. And I'd very, very very much like to have actual horns as an option. Even just giving female aliens access to the Large Bony Horns that males can get would be nice.
(Only my opinion, don't shoot me please)

lol, you misunderstand.
$1 to $5 is what you consider a microtransaction.
Macrotransaction is a play on words, micro/macro being opposites. Good work sir.

You guys at Cryptic might want to review what people willing to pay for in game items to what you think they will pay.
You would be surprised how much more money you will make just by lowering prices so more people will find the value in buying those items. If 4 people are willing to buy a 5$ starship as opposed to 1 person buying a 15$ starship... well you get the picture.
BTW this YouTube channel has many good ideas in gamming.
Ship sells for up to 5000 for replica ships packs and a costume is 550 so there you have it.
Not that I disagree with any of the points made.
Its relatively cheap to design, stat, and test (lol!) a new ship that they then sell for 2500 Zen, or even as a 3 pack; while making a new costume with all the available body options is severely more expensive and will have a lower return. To see what Cryptic might consider a suitable costume selling method we only need to look at the EV suit they tried to sell for 700 Zen as a non reclaimable character unlock.... madness. The more recent and apparently palatable way for Cryptic to get us costumes is the Lobi Store. So its either overprized or overprized :P .
STO's much vaunted economic success is at least partly thanks to ships being such moneymakers, both as store purchases and lockbox sales generators. I guarantee you that for Cryptic and for a good number of players the Risian Corvette coming up in the summer event is far more important than whatever new costume options become available.
Personally, I have enough ships already. I've had too many for a good while! I want more costume options. Its a mean joke really, a lot of us longtime players that stuck with Cryptic through the bad times (not that its that much better now, LoR was not aimed at us) did so because we felt that at east Cryptic was trying to give us cutomization options. Lately that has not been the case, its all about the least effort for the keeping the status quo for the churn players, and very little about providing value.
I didn't buy the DS9 bundle because I didn't want the entire bundle. I would be more than happy to buy select pieces (especially the costumes), if they were available separately. There's no reason they couldn't have done this -- sell the costumes, etc. at normal C-store prices, and the bundle at a slight discount.
The ships are really cool but the prices are too steep for me. I'd rather earn them on my own anyway. But looking fabulous? You can't put a price tag on that. I'd pay more than they charge for complete outfits, if the outfit was right.
If it were half price? Yeah, I'd probably do that.

I agree completely. I am willing to bet that a big part of the reason keys sell like they do is the $1.25 price tag.
Anything they could get onto the market that's even remotely useful and priced at less than 75zen would probably move like mad.

I've never felt good about spending the Zen just to get a console, but I've considered buying the Defiant Refit just so I can use the S?o Paolo skin on my Fleet Defiant. Of course, I would have to have a lot of Zen pile up before I'd actually go through with it.
Now, if Cryptic were to do a similar, but appropriately reduced, discount on Fleet ships for lower-tier C-Store ships, I'd probably always buy the Lower-Tier ship with the Fleet version, as I do now for the Tier 5 versions, and they'd get an extra 500 Zen out of my pocket every time.

Horta's eat rock and have an acid cannon attached to their face! They have no need for a gun. :P
Besides, I would be more than willing to pay $15 for weirder, stranger, rarer races for captains and bridge officers. I would love to pay for things like Hortas, Exocomps, Medusans, Edosians, Bird People, sentient clouds of gas, so on and so forth. They could also add them to the mob gen making PvE battles more interesting. (They could do that with a lot of C-Store ships too....)
Hell, I know people would shell out quite a bit of money to have more than one Orion Girl on board their Federation starship. Why not have that as an option too?
Yeah.... but pets take up inventory space, and I freaking hate temp allies. -___-
Also keep in mind I think the people working on ships, also make the costumes. I think they just have only one or two people take a break from ships to make costumes once in a blue moon.
Also costumes aren't promoted as much as ships are.
And ground areas aren't usually (particularly the older ones) nice compared to the space areas.
Also you can get almost item in the game without ever having to leave your ship.
