on any Federation ship he would be "accidentally"left behind on some desolate moon
he has NO place on any crew
Yes, except You are not flying a KDF ship, or Federation ship, or a Romulan EMPIRE ship. You are piloting a Romulan REPUBLIC ship that keep telling you "how they are different from others."
i dont really have many complaints about tovan. he's a pretty decent officer. especially for free. i mean ok he's a bit annoying but whatever. all i want right now is the ability to at least rename him. ive done all the romulan missions, found his sister, why not just unlock the ability to rename him after the new LoR content is done? Spent ages making him look like Bane (with a conveniently placed rebreather ) and now he just looks like a damn fool cos he's still called Tovan Khev. Bah.
D'Tan is not half Vulcan. He's a student of Ambassador Spock, that is not the same thing.
Don't try to confuse the brainwashed Tal Shiar drone with nasty things like facts. He can't get over it that his Imperium had two worlds destroyed by his best friends, lost one leader to the Borg, one to the Iconians and one to a plasma pistol shot to the face and is now a marginalized band of wannabe terrorists who wouldn't even be a minor nuisance to Mol'Rihan without the support of the Hirogen.:D
FKA K-Tar, grumpy Klingon/El-Aurian hybrid. Now assimilated by PWE.
Sometimes, if you want to bury the hatchet with a Klingon, it has to be in his skull. - Captain K'Tar of the USS Danu about J'mpok.
I'm more curious about why you're the captain at all.
From the very beginning, it seems clear that your character doesn't really have any flight experience. Indeed, at the very beginning, Tovan indicates that he is able to pilot the ship, something that would not be necessary if YOU were going to pilot the ship.
From this point on, Tovan is the one telling you what to do all the time. Why is he not the captain? He clearly wants to be. Maybe we should give him his own command.
He lost contact with his sister and doesn't know what happened to her, therefore he's been emotionally compromised. While his advice and expertise are wellcomed on my ship, the heavy burden of command falls upon my shoulders.
You clearly have fallen for d'tans claim to be leader
no one else has
My ship I.R.W. Damocles
is a Romulan vessel
the republic is merely a political party within the larger Romulan empire
D'tan merely one of several candidates to lead (and the weakest as he is half Vulcan)
You and small band of brothers seem to fail to see that D'Tan is the leader of the Romulan people.
Your ship has I.R.W prefix, therefore is a terrorist vessel that will be blown down from the skies upon contact. Ok, maybe in the spirit of the Republic, you'll be given a chance to peacefully surrender.....if your ship is smaller than mine. Oh, but I command a T'Varo sooo.....sorry time's up......

....but a good BoFF is D'Vex (Engineer) who gives nice bonuses for a tactical or tactical skills oriented player and his ground bonus is insane (+15% dodge to all party members iirc). A MUST KEEP for Ground missions and for Tactical or Engineer officers.
Make Tovan an OPTIONAL boff so players who like/love Tovan can keep him and players who dislike/hate Tovan can get rid of him.
Once you reach level 50 I would be happy to lose the option of replaying the early Rom episodes that involve Tovan if I'm given the ability to discharge Tovan from my crew.
In the immortal words of Captain Sisko: "It may not be what you believe, but that doesn't make it wrong."
Don't believe the lies in this forum. I am NOT an ARC user. I play STO on Steam or not at all.
LOL I'm not hearing a lot of loyalty here! Could Cryptic have just created this game's version of Commander Saffi Ingrid Larson or Jar Jar Binks?
To add some fuel to this particular fire, I wouldn't mind another boff slot or a choice of deleting him or keeping him on the reserve roster for later. A choice of Male or female equivalents would be nice, in both Romulans and reman versions. It would be nice to alter his personal history / biography.
Having said all this, to create this character took the time and talent of many artists. So to all of those that worked hard on him, Thank you so very much! It's good work and not a bad idea. It is one I prefer not to use or even have!
I've learned to live with Tovan, over the course of many mission replays <sighs>. While I do not hate having him attached to my character, I still believe it was unnecessary to permanently link him. Could players not have been given the option to dismiss him after finding and recovering Rinna?
Still, I do appreciate that he is a purple BOff and that he is trainable. However, I find the small glitches that are associated with Tovan to be more than a slight annoyance.
For instance, if Tovan's costume is changed, it can create issues. I still am disappointed when I see a Tovan model swap during cut-scenes and on the character selection menu.
Also, why did Cryptic think we needed, yet, another Tactical BOff? We already have the Breen and a Jem Hada. Most players will not need a third tac BOff. It would have been better for the Devs to have made him an Engineer, or Science BOff. Better yet, why not let the player choose what class of Tovan with whom they were going to be permanently linked?
Other than these lingering concerns, I have learned to live with Tovan. Fortunately, the scripting and acting are not bad. I am still hopeful that Cryptic will patch him in the future to allow dismissal. At the very least, they need to patch his bugs.
Adding some more NPCs on Virinat that you can choose from would be nice. Each would have their own little stories, and the subsequent missions would vary slightly depending on who you chose.
I went to my bridge the other day, and he was sitting in the first officer's chair. He is not my first officer, and isn't even slotted as a BO or away team member. Why is he on my bridge?
He keeps inserting himself into the department system. I keep taking him out, he keeps coming back.
Except for Tovan, I have an all female crew. I want him gone.
:mad::mad::mad:
I get he is part of the storyline, but I'm done with that and have no need for him, certainly don't want him.

Awww how come everyone hates Tovan Khev? :c
I think he's kinda neat! And I wish all of my BOFFs had voices of their own.
I also really liked Tovan Khev's story with his sister being lost and then the "shared past" with that Tal Shiar chick. Thought it was neato!
I'm a square though what do I know lol
I do wish I could change his name and add a biography though!
I am surprised anyone would say no to a free purple tactical officer with the Operative trait.
I would only replace Tovan if I had enough purple tacs with Superior operative, but they are kind of hard to come by.
The problem isn't Tovan's stats. I think he is fine skill wise. It is with his voice overs, inability to remove him or do anything WITH him. It feels like these are the voyages of Tovan Khev and the random slobs he let his helper pickup. . .

I'd be fine if they stuck me with Tovan's sister. I'm naming all my Romulan ships some variation of "Kill Tovan"

Ya. It really feels like being the 'hyper competent sidekick' given how much of the plot revolves around him. Now that being said, my only immediate issue is not being able to edit the biography. Its not like theres anything there for me to write over.
I run with an 'independent mercenary captain' vibe, so it would be easy to explain everything he does. He's an old friend from home, hes the Republic's watchdog on the ship (can't get rid of him, someone I don't know would replace him!) and so he occasionally hands out what feel like orders because his political masters have intrests I can't go too far against.
It works fine, IF I could put that in his bio area. It seems a waste not to let each person put their own 'spin' on Tovan Khev.

Dont have him but would like to shoot him at times... Imo its more he's emblematic of the tons of shortcuts and half-assery cryptic took with the romulans
Its a story. In stories you have certain things that have to be. Not good, not bad, just how it is. Tovan is part of the story. Don't like it? Don't play a rom.
On the other hand, I guess you guys need something to cry about. Forget I said anything.
Replaying the plot atm and was payin more attention to tovan after reading the complaints here.. Im only like lv16 atm and yeah
1)there are times where he is so far up your TRIBBLE his character model is literally inside yours 2)there are times he does things where as the commanding officer you would so slap his TRIBBLE down like a bad dog. Isolated incidents like blowin up on Charva after the transport mission I could see but he does **** like that too much for a commissioned officer, and you dont even get a 'SHUT UP TOVAN!' button, just 'continue'

Being able to pilot is a bonus, but knowing what commands to give is more important in a team environment.

Mr.Khev, fire all torpedoes on my mark!
Very well said, very well said indeed!
mine dose to
system Lord Baal is dead
1. he needs take 2 step back from me. he is like a dog humping my legs
2. his XO/1st officer style is borderline sexist and almost overriding my authority as command of my ship.
