I think I've figured it out. In this universe you have to plant dilithium in the ground and its spreads like a plant. Yup that must be it. Either that or there are alot of radan tribbles crapping out dilithium in the mines or something
Maybe the rock is actually a huge space tribble and we are digging into its guts.
i really dont get it.. why in gods name am i "supplying" a "dilithium mining station" with dilitihium.. seems like this was not very well thought out..
You excepted that you were a VA / BG mining Dilithium out there on your spare time ... , and now you have a problem with supplying Dilithium to a Dilithium mine ??
When in Soviet Russia bro ... -- if they had made The Twilight Zone there ... . :P
If I mine X, and I sell X for Y, and I use Y to buy more/better equipment to use to mine X, I am essentially spending X to get more X.
And Dilithium may not have been a currency on the shows, but in our game, right now, it is.
It indeed was a 'currency' on TOS at times.

I understand the concept of the Dilithium currency in STO (a way for players to buy C-store items without buying Zen), but I really think they should of used another name for the currency or made yet another one for the fleet holdings. Dilithium is used in power generation in warp cores (for regulating the Matter/Anti-matter reaction), it *isn't* used in singularity cores. It makes no sence why so much of it is required to make starbases or buy equipment, surely it would be better to add a mining system to the game with natural resources that would be donated to these projects instead? I could understand donating huge ammounrs of Duranium Alloy to help build a mine or starbase, but having to donate such a huge ammount of Dilithium makes no sence. Right now we actualy don't donate any raw materials at all to building things in this game....
And we support Omega Force's ongoing battle against the Borg collective by sending them a bunch of skin regenerators and batteries XD
There is not much thinking involved in projects - just random items and lots of currency to encourag people to spend money.

Id don't get the Op doesn't get it. This whole game (and any other game) is based on the silly concept if you do this, I'll reward you with an item which is very useful to do that job. Like. You see those threes, if you can chop them for me I'll give you a nice axe.

Simply and elegantly put. Obvious in retrospect. Not sure whyI never saw it quite that way before. Thanks.

Why would I chop threes with an axe? I'd probably use 7s. Looks like I could probably get a good grip on the bottom part. :P

It's not logical to have dilithium costs trough all tiers.
With first tier, yes.
That will be buying and installing the drilling equipment and callibrating those.
When the mining starts we should start getting the DIL.
Where is the need to slot even more dil into the project then?
And will the mine even give back the slotted dil, or does that depend on how many members is using it?
When it comes to this project, you Cryptic have not showed what this project will give back, or what the requirements are for the dil mine, what is needed for it to be profitable for fleets.
For me and the fleet i am in, not a big fleet...
I think this is a NO WIN SCENARIO.
Dude... It's like Soviet Russia. They are mining "you" of dilithium. Get it?
That is the only thing that makes sense but that was an awesome way to go with that.
Seriously though... Oh what will help small fleets? Well something that lowers the requirements for their Dilithium! We will just make sure it takes tons of Dilithium and a whole NEW holding to accomplish because obviously small fleets do not have enough to spend their limited resources on!

and that taco, is one of the finer points that the dev team has been missing for a long time now.. we "the player base" are not stupid, we are intelligent, for the most part, non 12 year old kids.. for a long time now, we have been asking that cryptic step it up when making content, so that it isnt a headache to read, play, and comprehend... this isnt rainbow brite online, where you can just turn around and make sh*t up.. this is star trek, an entity that is known for having strict rules, and a fierce fallowing..
we have pointed out on many occasions alot of problems in the way things are written (either explained, interjected into story, plots, and even interpreted). and yet, as time goes on, more and more of the instances are showing up, and they are getting silly, and harder to swallow as someone who has a love for the star treck franchise..
i am a rock solid trekkie at the core.. i own more star trek merch than i care to mention. i am well rounded in all the theories, and i even know a little klingon.. (god im shooting myself in the foot now lol) and it is insulting to see some of the content and writing in this game, not all of it, but the bs is growing larger and larger.. i think it culminated with the romulan faction.. and i get it, while some peeps out there like it and what not.. i know, a vast majority of my friends who used to , or have recently quit playing after the patch, think it was a slap in the face to the trek franchise...
the point is taco, if you have x's and y's, they should make sense.. i dont mind dilithium as a currency, it was a cool way to incorperate it, and what not.. but as an educated, well rounded star trek fan, making me supply a dil mining facility, with dil, was kinda the last straw.. honestly, had i been on that team, i would have chose gpl, on two fronts, it makes perfect sense, and gives people a reason to play dabo and get it also, it breaks up the boring standard you have built for the fleet projects, that being the formula, of fc exp, dil, and either doffs or commodities.. yes, in this game dilithium is a currency, but its not the only currency.. and this type of thinking from you guys, is what is driving me away (i havnt quit yet, but i am taking a break) and alot of my friends, (weather real life or ingame). my very very large friends list has gone from having at least half on, to im lucky if 5 people are on at any given time.. and these are mostly hard core trekkies..

yes, the juice is not worth the squeeze for my fleet as well..
its like when hybrid cars got popular.. yes, you spend less on gas, but most people were still spending as much as they would on conventional car as they were more expensive, they needed more in maintnance, in the end, it was a wash, and for some, it was more expensive to have that car..
this dilithium mine has been pushed as something that is meant to help smaller fleets. well i guess their idea of a smaller fleet is 400 instead of 500 members.. it makes it impossible for my fleet to keep up.. they now have to choose which holding and projects they are gonna from day to day, instead of being able to run multiple..
in the end, its a sham.. and its a slap in the face to the player base...

One primary criteria in being a good restaurant is consistency. The same idea also applies to good story telling. Internal consistency, a believable internal logic, establishes the borders of your tale, your world, and as soon as you go against it you create an off putting dissonance that destroys the reader or players sense of disbelief and leads them to toss the book or game out the window. You could say it is because you have insulted your audience by leading them to buy into a fiction and then blatantly pointing out how silly or dumb it is so as to make them feel stupid or dumb for buying into you..
I would hope that is not their intention because as soon as you do this you kill the sense of immersion in an IP and take away its value as an escape from daily real life. You no longer feel comfortable logging in to down a few beers and blow up ships because it has been pointed out as a stupid waste by the writers themselves.
I am not sure if development teams are ready to deal with the fact that "all" studies indicate core MMORPG players are in their early thirties now in the Western Market. That fact alone can be attributed to the failure of so many recent games at about the point they release a sparkle pony or some equivalent and introduce kung fu panda Pok?mon. In Asia it's still predominantly a kid's pastime outside of South Korea and Japan but that's changing too albeit slowly as they develop.
The kids are into JJ Abrams Trek right now but Cryptic has a license only for the older IP materials. You know TOS, TNG, DS9 that reaches back to the seventies and dies in the nineties. Whom do they think will be playing this game? Certainly not all the young crowd whom may not even know exactly who William Shatner is but recognize Chris Pine.
Perhaps that makes things a little more difficult in modern times? It is what it is and the sort of challenge a pro group needs to be ready to tackle.

Never have more than one mission going at a time and always pick the lower cost projects that only require Commodities instead of DOffs.
Only contribute when you can.
It takes a LOT longer, but what else is there to do?
Note: This is not how they want you to play.
