Well my old fleet everyone left then came back when F2P started again then all are gone now due to Grind, cost of ships etc in game store, connect issues etc.
Perfect World in my opinion ruined this game with their pay to win idea. The changes to the game as a whole I do like some of it, others i do not. Honestly since PW took over there have been more down times, more server issues etc., Now not sure who is to blame for all this, but its usually whoever holds the money in this case PW.
I have loved STO for the most part, just hate that most of my friends that I made way back when STO was still being made have all left is a bit hard to take. People anymore (not all but a lot) are too harsh to help people or give advice etc. they call people Noobs for not knowing about the ships etc. To me this is wrong as how are people suppose to learn if they can not ask questions and get a response that does not call them names.

See again that is where when game first came out people in my fleet were helping each other and doing things together etc. Now its all about building your fleet base etc and its less about having fun..............

Our KDF fleet has actually gained a lot of newer members. Been spending a lot of time in Fleet chat giving out basic game information. Some of our long time players logged in a bit during LoR, and now have gone back to playing less frequently.

It's gotten to where trying to keep up a small fleet feels like a full-time job just trying to retain people. If I go offline for more than a day, people just seem to go poof. we regularly had at least 4 people online at a time during the week after LoR launched, but now we're lucky to have 2 people on at the same time, and have to plan to get 4 people together for RP.

    It's so disheartening and depressing.

I'm getting the general picture that it sucks to be a small fleet in terms of trying to retain a playerbase.

Larger fleets are doing just fine. (We've had to establish an alt fleet to cope with the intake of new players and their toons...)

The reason small fleets are struggling are a number of factors which include:

    • Nukara Fleet Mark nerf, especially small KDF fleets (Defera can be hard to get a team together at times)
    • Cost of projects, not scaled to fleet size (by account), costs more as an individual to be in a small fleet
    • All the good stuff is tier 3 or above, a lot of grind for small fleets as members need to donate more individually to get there.

    Advantages of small fleets:

    • You know others more, more akin to a family. You don't often have to wonder, who is that posting in fleet chat.
    • A lot more advantages for advancement.
    • A huge opportunity to generate fleet credits, rather than getting on and seeing the projects are already filled.

All in all if they brought a lot of the goodies down to lower tiers, make ship provisioning a hell of a lot cheaper, 200k dilithium for 5 fleet ships is a joke, then I think smaller fleets would be better in the long run.

Sto has bad times and good times. Generally for me good times are when FE are coming out or winter event and having fun with mates. Bad times is like when nothing new or when theres problems with servers or bugs getting too many that are obvious to us but not to devs or they dont prioritize them. Unfortunatly were in the bad era atm even with LOR just come out its enjoyment or the new content even tho i dont run a romulan is just terrible atm cos of the server issues and bugs. I feel sorry for the devs that work hard and then have other devs muck up other stuff to have a mix of good and bad with mostly bad coming through the worst of it.

Sto for me generally is only popping on running 2 toons worth of toys i.e buy artifacts run em and then quit and come back to check if i get a nice console later that day. Even with new content i.e missions to try i dont really feel the urge to play them. I think im just sick of it all tbh. The only content i truely used to like was FE and since there not really here anymore or not many as often theres very little for me to really enjoy in sto nowadays. Shame cos it did have its moments.

So its safe to say a good 75% of us players, are not happy with the game ATM...

I used to be on EVERY night, and stay on for hours, now I come on for a few hours at most, and then its a push.

Something about the new content, really messed the game play up.

I would say 100% it is the server problems, for me its killed a good game...

Well until I hear about my Beta test for Morrowind Online, im going to stay for now!

12 nukara marks for an azure nebula vs playing an elite stf.

The new reputation system just isn't working. And once you done leveling your romulan he is just another indifferent dil grinder since you won't be doing rep on it.

Meanwhile your old fed and kling characters still don't have anything new to work on.

    Incorrect strategy no.1

I think the realisation of having to go through the rep systems... AGAIN has been off putting for a lot of players.

I love having romulans, I love the ships etc but personally the thoughts of having to grind through even Omega rep again never mind another month of chasing Wabbits for Rom rep or the pitiful marks for Tholian Rep DOES NOT A FUN GAME MAKE...

I want loads of romulans, I'd happily double my stable from 5 to 10 toons with an array of Rom's on both factions and careers, but having to face rep again.... no thanks...

Been there done that, bought, wore and even grew the hemp for my own T shirt on that front.

Make life simple for me to enjoy my toons.... make life easy for me to give you money... make tier 5 rep unlockable for 500 zen once I've levelled a toon through it already.

Rep kept us all busy for S7 congrats, but we're moving onward and upwards now, can we please move past S7 with LOR?

    thanks!

I'm with you. Whatever stylistic disagreements I might have with rep systems are irrelevant compared to the point that there is really nothing fun about it.

It is my experience that Summer times means a big gain and loss of players for a couple of reasons.

People are getting out of college and getting summer job which means a lot of people who had more time for games are gone now leaving rosters looking rather bare.

On the flip side, younger gamers are being unleashed from high schools leading to an influx of people.

Even with that, with any game there is ebb and flow of people coming and going. I know I take sizable breaks to concentrate on school lest STO consume me entirely. Even then, content that is new only comes out so often and I've been here since launch.

That said, with the launch of Lagecy of Remans got so much stuff, there should be a net gain of people to the game. Retaining those people is something else.

Couch Athletics has been around since launch, changed leadership, got to over 300+ people, then died. Then was revived the following summer, got to over 300+ again but then it died again. (This was pre starbase).

This time around, the renamed fleet has only lost 1 person so far. But the fleet is tiny, and just a harbor for people who want to have a fleet to get people to stop bothering them.
Cheers from Antonio Valerio Cortez III, Half-Celestial Archduke of the Free Marches Confederacy.
