I cannot believe how many of my fleet members have "left the game!" Some are even lifers, however it seems the amount of bugs in game + the huge grind, has beaten many of them.
I used to have around 30+ showing up in my rosta, some of course did not chat as much, however if we needed to get some PVE going, I would have enough of my fleet to do the job.
Not anymore, atm I have 8 people online, all busy doing what they want to, now we have a strong fleet of over 300+, however this really has hit me hard coming back into the game.
I was offline for just 5 days, however in that time, I have lost some of our MAJOR players. So I was wondering why this is the case...
I asked the fleet members who are online now, and I get the same message, the grind + the bugs have killed it for them, also the server issues! Most have jumped to Neverwinter, because the grind is pretty low in that game, and its more fun to play...
So I have to put the question out to you all, How many friends have you lost from the game since the new update?
I'm considering it after today's launcher BS and the LTS stipend issue's combined with the continued issues in game I'm thinking of moving to another game of which I haven't decided yet. I do know with fathers Day coming I have made it clear that I don't want my family to waste any more money on PWE or UGC cards.
Myself, I play more Kerbal Space Program than STO. The fleetmates I have here have always drifted. Sometimes they come back for a day, sometimes a few months. I only know this because I stay connected via pidgin. I think it's pretty normal.
In a game that has a static universe that you can cross in 5 minutes the 'freshness' wears off a little more easily than a game that has a more player driven dynamic. Couple having nowhere special to go with some powerfully un-fun grinds like the rep systems that just get you to the same homogenized place as everyone else and well... yeah I could see how not everyone feels the need to engage in that every day. I know I don't.
I'll sell you some weapons from New Romulus. Never fired, only dropped once.

A massive influx of players. The grind is long but you need to have the right perspective and not spend all of your time grinding. It's also faster and less painful having a lot of competent fleet members. Determined grinding on equipment projects will burn people out.
I'm sure some people will leave on hitting 50 although I'm finding a lot of fun things to do. Especially after fitting a fleet mogai. There are some interesting builds to do from some of the weapons from episode replays.
In the past players complained there was nothing to do. Now there's plenty to do or work towards and they still quit. Rep system, fleet projects, fleet holdings are all there to give you something to work on and are time gated so that you don't repeatedly grind the same content. Players should take their focus off pure grinding, or if they want to grind take every second day off. The game seems more fun when you've taken a break from it.

But the majority of content is aimed at the soloer, and those people can come and go as they please. The group content in this game doesn't even really require different roles. I mean you could multibox and probably do pretty decent in the PvE content.
A lot of my fleet is lifers, and we tend to come and go alot, especially when the game is buggy or otherwise rough. I can afford to wander off and play TSW for a while until Cryptic gets things stable and come back later.
That being said, the current instability and the fact that a lot of people rolled a Rommie toon means some people are online, just not on the toons that are in my fleet. This may be exacerbating the issue.
None. We hit 500, booted out all of the alts, filled a second Fed fleet, and are now at 500+350. Our KDF fleet is over 400.
We do no recruiting whatsoever. Every one of our members comes to us, and we get probably a dozen or more a day.
We've set a strict inactivity rule, but we get far more requests than we have inactives, so we put them in the alt fleet on the promise of a transfer when room opens up (contributions are easier to make there, anyway- our main fleet filled the Comm Array V project in half an hour).
We expect some of the new people who've come for Romulan content to eventually tire and leave, but it's not happening at nearly the rate we were planning for.

I wonder how much of that is actual new players or those just shuffling from imploded fleets
NO NO NO - not elder scrolls online!!! I already lost 1000 hrs of my life to Skyrim!!! When is this due out?
It was just delayed to 2014.
Plus it's going to be released to consoles.
"Participation in PVP-related activities is so low on an hourly, daily, weekly, and monthly basis that we could in fact just completely take it out of STO and it would not impact the overall number of people [who] log in to the game and play in any significant way." -Gozer, Cryptic PvP Dev
So far this week picked up six....they all told me they told their last fleet they were leaving the game because they didn't have the heart to tell them how fail their fleet was.
I gained 6 members just yesterday, but that is uncommon. The excessive grind is a real turn off for a lot of players, the huge dilithium sinks is what does it more I think more than mark grinding.
Advanced/Elite Pets, Fleet Projects, Reputation Gear (after you did the excessive grind to access it mind you) a lot of the Fleet Gear (again after you and your fleet did the work to access them) all requires it. NO one ever has enough dilithium as it's needed for everything even grinding 5 blue DOFF to a Purple and you have no option to choose the DOFF and it's traits.
Plus some of the Rep systems are silly. To get the gear to do the Omega STF's you need to grind the Rep system to access the gear, true you can use other gear but the Omega gear is optimal for the STF's and fighting the Borg. Makes no real sense, there should be a really cheap tier 0 version of the gear (mark X) that doesn't require any dilithium or much in the way of marks and can be gained (costs like 15 marks each and some expertise) by just playing a couple of Elite STFs and can do you until you get the Tier 5 gear. That early gear would be disposable later anyway.
But the majority of content is aimed at the soloer, and those people can come and go as they please. The group content in this game doesn't even really require different roles. I mean you could multibox and probably do pretty decent in the PvE content.
This is exactly the issue, science and engineering types really aren't needed when you can get more done with a team of escorts/tacticals as the game really is just a DPS race.
Something that really needs to be looked at, especially in these reputation space grinds like STF's where an Engineer in a Cruiser can be a liability as the enemy will always attack the player who does the most DPS which will rarely be the Engineer.
Engineering tanking and science healing/crowd control/debuffing needs more of a focus in this game, perhaps giving a way for only engineers to choose to increase aggro/threat generation and science a huge boost to what it does. So as an example while an engineer could use gravity well it's really weak compared to a science doing it .
The fact remains not everyone likes to do the DPS thing, especially those who come from other games/MMOs who like doing the healing role etc.

It's hard to say. A lot of the new people say they tried the game back when it launched and quit after a month or two. But it's also pretty common to hear folks talk about being from fleets that never did anything or advanced.
We finally found some inactives to kick this evening, so maybe the LoR rush is slacking.
Just started playing this game and wow bad servers or summat feels just like EvE over the past week or 2.
However if any of your space nerds feel like playing eve online the middle management dino of TEST Alliance is recruiting so come join us and pew pew other space nerds

Isnt having all the best stuff endgame itself?
going out and kicking other nerds heads in cuz your stuff is better then their stuff? and collecting their tears cuz u blew their shiney ship up? or does that not work in this game?
while i am in a fleet of 1 for the time being.. i will say that reports from friendly fleets is that they are losing people and having a hard time finding people.. from what ive heard, youll have a week or so of no "new hires" but then a fleet or two will dispand (usually cause half the fleet has left the game) and that is why some fleets are seeing growth in this kinda lul..
that being said.. i have a very very leangthy friends list (being that i have been here since beta) and im lucky (and i mean lucky) if there is more than ten people on at a time.. a year or two ago, that list would have had at least 50 percent of them online at any given time. ive noticed that these people are not even logging into other cryptic games...
im part of an ingame chat of about 20 people.. (some are people who were lost in the shuffle of fleets, or what not) and most (not all but most) say the only reason they are staying in sto, is cause of the social interaction we are currently apart of.. that if it didnt exist, they would jump ship...
now am i ready to jump ship.. not just yet.. cause i have not found another game to take this one's spot.. but with all this constant down time, im gonna stumble on one sooner than later.. lol
The Massive has closed recruitment actually, and we have even turned players away from joining. We don't desire to become too big, and our base success is a huge draw.
Moreover, no member is required to do any grind. It's just that a lot of our players want to. So the grind in our fleet isn't an issue. The rep grind only kind of sucks because most of us have multiple toons (I'm doing 4, but others are doing more). Outside of Nukara marks, frankly every other requirement is easy to meet.
If there is one thing that everyone can agree on, it's all the bugs in the game. Even given that we are one of the furthest fed+kdf fleets in the game, no one is particularly happy that there is even more coming. I do think those are legitimate complaints.
going out and kicking other nerds heads in cuz your stuff is better then their stuff? and collecting their tears cuz u blew their shiney ship up? or does that not work in this game?
sort of... but the problem is, weve been at mk 12 items for so long, and there is such a long time inbetween getting new gear, that most everyone has good gear.. not to mention. since it is all purchased (either by real money or ingame currency) it doesnt let you ever stay on top for long.. i know, that everytime new equipment (such as fleet equipment) was released, by the time we unlocked the starbase teir, i was able to buy and fully load out my ship with everything i wanted.. there was no working towards it and getting a peice here and there, it was boom, exciting for a week, then meh...
i for one am bored of the endgame weve been playing for three years.. sure the level cap has increased, but were still fighting the borg in the same old stf's.. ( i wont take anything away from the stf's they are great, but after a few years of playing them, its growing old and tired.. and the new events (lets use azura for example) well christ, you can run it every half hour.. and you need the marks, so after about a week or two, it loses its glamor as well...
what they need, is content. like a raid, that drops uber awesome gear (with a better drop rate than what the stf's had, so rare, but not impossible) that you run once or twice a week, not letting you over do it all at once.. while still having lesser content that can be ran all the time.. alot of people might say it sucks that way.. but wow wasnt the most successfull game ever for no reason, they knew how to make content last, and they knew how to keep you hooked..
Paragon Expeditionary Fleet and Arachnos Armada both seem to be going strong. Especially Arachnos Armada klingon side. Back in December I was regularly the only one online klingon-side for hours each evening. Since about two weeks before LOR to now we're pretty reliably having 6+ online at once and there's definitely a lot online when I'm not because our projects are completing dang fast compared to a couple months ago.
And I really wish I knew any fleets that are disbanding because I want to inherit one haha.

Gained 3 (+1 who left and rejoined)
So roughly we're staying the same, which isn't too bad. A lot more people are playing more infrequently however, so maybe it evens out.
