Why in any T5 Connie thread do people pull out the "Let's have a Battlestar Derp" arguments?
Is it not apparent how blatently obvious it is that they don't have a valid argument?
Ships requested from the game's IP are not even remotely in the same field as non IP ships.
I'm sorry, I acknowledge your point and even agree with it, but there's this pressure to find something new to say about such a well treaded topic. Don't get mad that we're having fun, rather than letting this topic fall off the front page like the last 15 times or so it came up.
I mean, there seem to be a large number of people who can't comprehend "IF CBS SAYS NO, IT MEANS NO." You'd think after being told that a few times, it sink in.
As for the overpowered excelsior, If you watch DS9 during the Earth Coup d'etat arc, the USS Lakota, an excelsior refit, was given a weapons upgrade to the point it could have clobber the Defiant if Benteen didn't end up having second thoughts.
the Defiant was aready noted as being "the most heavily armed warship in the quadrant" so there is some basis for having it be a high powered ship.
Everywhere I look, people are screaming about how bad Cryptic is.
What's my position?
That people should know what they're screaming about!

You'll be eating an awful lot of crow the day CBS decides to reverse that decision.

Sorry, but I wanted to nip it in the bud before people started comparing ships sizes (invalidated by the Defiant) or ages (Invalidated by the D'kyr) or, "Why can't we have the HMS Bounty instead Derp" Non IP non warp rated ships.
As you said it's all been tread before, but some don't get it.
1. As mentioned already, D'Kyr, Fleet D7, Possibility of a Fleet T'Varo, etc. etc. throws age out the window.
2. I stand fast that the "second Breen invasion of ESD", caused by a non-canon ship being released to everyone willing to run 16 or so races invalidates the claim of CBS that they want factions to be "predominately faction" ships.
3. We have more classes than "cruiser", and the fact that a "light cruiser", aka Intrepid Class, is not in the cruiser class - means that we could have a little freedom here...
4. TNG has an Escort, Science and Cruiser representative. If we took Excelsior as the "pre-TNG" cruiser, slotted NX as a "refurbished" Akira under Escort, and gave Kirk-Connie a science-oriented retrofit (so it doesn't stand up pound-for-pound as a cruiser against the Oddessys, Regents, etc., then the Pre-TNG eras (Ent, ToS, TMP) would have "equal" ship representation...
Detecting big-time "anti-old-school" bias here. NX? Lobi. TOS/TMP Connie? Super-promotion-box. (aka the two hardest ways to get ships) Excelsior & all 3 TNG "big hero" ships? C-Store. Please Equalize...

The Excelsior was a superb vessel in its day, but if it faced the defiant at launch it would be a slaughter. The Lakota was nothing more than a refit Excelsior class with modern upgrades (Shields, Weapons, Armor, Engines). So the precedent is there to take a ship and outfit it with the latest in tech. A wealthy collector could theoretically rebuild a Connie with all the latest hardware and be just as devastating as any other fleet vessel. But I could not foresee the federation funneling resources into such a project, when it would be just as cost-effective to build something new.
Not that it would matter to me if they added one or not, but I just had to chime in for all the people who felt the need to respond with absurd counter-claims of ships that had nothing to do with the universe. It may not seem practical, but at least they existed in this universe. It is almost as silly as the retroactive claims that Nero had some super-ship. No, he had a mining vessel from the future. His minor defensive weapons are greatly effective to military hardware from another century, but I bet he would stand no chance against federation ships of his own time.

CBS is the final authoirty. until they change thier minds, there's little point to these discusions here. Try writting Mr. Moonves and the other CBS bosses. You might actually get results. Doing it here, where the only ones seeing it are "our-Hands-are-tied" Cryptic, isn't going to get you anywhere.

omg seriously with this topic? What do you people think, if you beat a dead horse long enough you'll fluke some cpr and bring it back to life or something?

Telling us that CBS said no is not going to stop anyone. CBS also told Cryptic that their canon is what people generally agree on.
Since there are older and smaller ships at tier 5, I think we can all agree that the no connie rule is ridiculous.
*yawns* This battle has gone on for well over 3 years now, every time no was said. Finally it was said CBS said no and still people don't accept it. There is a LOT of people against a connie at Tier 5, and some for it. While my personal feelings say it shouldn't be up there, I understand why people want it.
That said, after 3 years and almost every month this thread being brought up and people told it isn't happening I would think, after awhile, people would let it go.
But then I remember this is the internet and things never are really ever let go :P

There is a LOT of people against a connie at Tier 5, and some for it.
My first instinct is to say that, as far as the forums are concerned, this is the opposite of true.
Most people are either for it, or ambivalent ("people are already flying Tholian, Cardassian, Ferengi, Jem'hadar, etc. ships, who cares"). Very few people are outright against seeing Tier 5 Cruisers like Excalibur and Exeter.
I would also like a Tier 5:
- 1985 Ford F-150 modified for space travel
- 1970 GTO modified for space travel
- Oh and of course a 1976 AMC Pacer modified for space travel (Wayne's World Wayne's World Party Time Excellent!)

It's been tread before before it's a good point.
According the to C-store description, the NX class was "Designed by a group of SCE officers working with Federation historian Gregory Pacelli, this reconstruction of the famed NX class has the classic look of ships from Earth in the 22nd century with updated technology to meet Starfleet specifications. "
If SCE officers can get together with members of the public to build a ship whose sole purpose seems to be to look like another ship, why couldn't they also team up with a naval historian to build a ship that looks like a sailing ship? After all, it would be bigger than a shuttle craft so you could easily fit updated technology like phasers and a warp drive.
Or why not team up with a 20th century historian (remember that the Ent-D had one of these in their crew!) to build a ship that looks like a Battlestar. Any trademark on the ship would have expired centuries ago in-universe.
Why not just make those GPL holographic ship costumes be permanent and allow us to purchase the Constitution and NX holographic ship costumes. Problem solved. Constitution fans would be flying a ship that looks like the Constitution and naysayers won't have a problem with it violating common sense.
Well the idea was that I made this topic to poke fun at the game. Its either laugh at it, or cry at it... one or the other. We all know how ridiculous some of the so called "powers" in this game are and how we can see the developers obvious bias towards some ships over others but most of all, it just shows how Cryptic is a completely inept at running this game.
In 3 years, we have seen some of the most blatant barefaced lies from Cryptic and somehow just accepted it and gone about our business. When will be the point that we say "enough is enough" you are ruining it now and people start to abandoning the game in their droves?
I'm not saying the game is bad, I'm saying that Cryptic's handling of the IP is at allowing ridiculous ships come into the game as playable items. If they keep this up, they are going to run out of ships that they can try and sell to the public.
The squander every last bit of money they can out of people and we have to ask if this money is truly being reinvested back into the game because even after LoR, I doubt a lot of it is. STO's simply a piggy bank for Neverwinter, the same way Champion's Online was for STO.
So you can either laugh or cry because they are never going to change from their greedy standpoint...
That's why I created this topic, to encourage ideas that Cryptic might think of next...
Hmmmmm so lets think here...
I think we should get the "Protector" and have a Boff on it that randomly reads out what the computer has already said...
