Scheduled Maintenance (May 29, 2013 - Canceled, being taken care of during downtime)

pwebranflakespwebranflakes Member Posts: 7,741
Hi Captains,

We will be bringing down Star Trek Online tomorrow, Wednesday, May 29th, at 7AM PDT (click here to view in your timezone) for maintenance. We expect this maintenance to only last for 2.5 hours. The test server may also be unavailable during this time.
Why is another maintenance necessary, and why at this time?

We do understand that this time is unfortunately inconvenient for some of our players, though in this particular situation we have server-side maintenance tasks that need to be performed ASAP in order to ensure a smooth play experience for everyone. We will do our best to complete this maintenance as quickly as we can in hopes of keeping the downtime to a minimum.

There are no patch notes for this maintenance other than "Server stability updates."

Thanks for your patience and understanding,

- The Star Trek Online Team

I realize increasing server statbility is the top priority right now. But will we see some bugfixes soon? Maybe on thursday?

Well Brandon, will these "Server stability updates." stop my game from crashing every time I set foot on a highly populated map?Or will it just make my game crash that much harder like the last set of "Server stability updates." did?

Thanks for letting us know why the server is taken down.

I'm happy to hear that bug fixes are on the way. I miss colony invasion and gorn minefield, not to mention the mirror event!

Actually, the maintenace should be finished by the end of EU workshifts.

I was just poking a litle fun - they are always posting how Cryptic hates them, how Cryptic does it just to spite them, how Cryptic plans these things to TRIBBLE the european players. It just gets so predictable.

1st - they start the Update at 7am where there offices are - sorry that's early - and they don't have a team of like 200 employees to work 3 shifts a day.

2nd - they pick the time of day that there data shows they have the least amount of players.

Nothing of this is personal as many players seem to take it as.

    Ok i have a question. . .

Who decides the down time? As correct me if I'm wrong but the population of Europe is some what larger than the beloved USA so wouldn't logic dictate that you do it at a time that is not in prime time in either time zone

So 7am is 3pm in the UK so. . .

Make it 5am USA time that's 1pm in UK and that 2hour difference then brings down time into mid afternoon throughout Europe and most of the world.

After a quick glance over your posted time zone it would only effect a hand full of countries and not half the world.. thus making the majority happy

As tbh all this down time regardless of how sorry you are is erm ANNOYING

branflakes you say this is for improving the servers but it has made them more laggy with each Server stability update , have you found the cause yet why this is happening ?

Yes Cryptic's staff should get up at 3:30 in the morning to be ready to go at 5 AM because the earth is round.

    Cool story bro.

Meh, these times don't actually bother me that much. It's the 'despite server maintenance, the server still crashes 3 hours later' that gets me.

They have to restart the servers every day, because their bad coding causes huge memory leaks.
This is what eventually causes the huge lag to build up.

Comparing a $300 billion dollar company with 200,000 employeess to a small studio with about 40.

Yes that is a good comparison.

An people are getting tired of Europeans complaining. Crytic is in the USA and goes by USA time for maintenance. Get over it.

Brandon, you say thanks for your understanding and patience...

we have been nothing but understanding and patient...BUT...

it would appear a lot of players are really getting niffed off with all these bugs and server downtimes my friend.
how about trying to get the playerbase back on your side by way of compensation for all the problems over the last month by way of energy credits? lets say 5 mil each for the continued problems?

after all it's not our fault that these problems exist is it, to be fair?

balls in your court my friend, and i am sure many players would agree with me on this one.

They do. I've seen the notices for the last few on my launcher when I launch it. Even if it isn't there now, it probably will be several hours before the maintenance time.

On another note, are you going to fix the bug where the game is trying to charge me 750z for a free customization? When I hit Commander, it's been trying to do that.
Now a LTS and loving it.
Just because you spend money on this game, it does not entitle you to be a jerk if things don't go your way.

What does it matter about tomorrow, CANT even log in right now, Stuck at Retrieving list of characters.. screen then I get booted. Looks like my "maintenance" has started about 9 hours early, guess I wont be getting on star trek any time soon.

    Problems are:

    - Server not responding message,
    - Disconected from server many times,
    - Loging failed without reason,
    - Can not login for very long time.

The maintenance should be finished before the end of EU workshifts, and that is before 16h. And there maintenance starts in 16h. That is their 7 PDT. I come from work and I can not go online.

Well, how about you guys perform this "maintenance" right now, since your precious server crashed anyway... looks like yesterdays pseudo-maintenance broke more things than it fixed again.

    Well done, Cryptic.

Did the server just crash? o.O I mean, really? Isn't that a bit ironic...

Edit: Main power is offline, auxiliarly systems failing... we'll just go with that.

I agree with the other members its abit of a joke, every day there is maintenance and im guessing there will be more tomorrow the day after and the day after that yet its always the same excuse with no details and "thanks for being patient!" like we have a choice?

Like others i would like to know what this maintenance is? (yes its server maintenance but whats happening and why is it taking so long)
How long its going to last?
And why is it whenever you post about maintenance or when maintenance is happening your servers seem to die and the forums come to a halt?

So are you willing to give any information or should i just expect another "Thank you for your patience the servers are back up see you in game!" bs?
