Daily patches?

I seem to be patching shadercache.hogg daily. Is anyone else having this happen or have any idea why that would be happening?

I don't know what I'm downloading, but for the last three days it's been a 132 MB patch every time I start the launcher. Not life threatening for sure, but I got a small amount of GB I can download/month so it will start to add up.

Where do you find out what is being downloaded during the launcher patch?

Hit Ctrl-X while downloading to see what it is..

I can almost guarantee it is the shadercache.hogg file if it is 132MB in size as me and my friend are having the same thing every time we start the launcher that file starts to get "patched".

Thanks for the tip. However, would be nice to know as to why it's d/l'ing this all the time. It did it again today.

Don't ask me why or how, but it seems related to when they announce "General Sever Stability Improvements' in patch notes after a maintenance patch.

If the patch notes mention that - we seem to get an updated 'shadercache.hogg' download as a result.

Could be completely unrelated. But, I seem to remember a season or so ago there was some type memory leak (I forget the details) and STO would crash every a couple of days. It was almost like clockwork.

My WAG is that there is a memory leak in the new code that they are trying to pin down and fix. So, when they make a change to the code we get an updated version.

One other possibility is that "General Server Stability improvements" means spinning up new hardware- or VMs- in there data center to handle all of the new traffic.
