I am really upset with how many boxes you have to open. i have spent 7500 zen and got only 5 purple items. this is really up setting to since all of the winner i have spoken to have opened less than that most of them opened less than 30. this is really unfair.
So you're complaining about your luck in a randomized luck chance of getting the rarest item in the new Lock Box? Cry moar plz. There is a reason why it's called "random" chance. A friend of mine opened two of them. He got the Destroyer out of the second one. I've opened 20 so far. Haven't got anything worth mentioning. Am I claiming it's unfair? No.
There is no reason to claim anything is unfair when you don't even "need" the items to play this game. All of it is fluff, pure and simple.

YOU ARE RIGHT! Yeah, you got a point, it IS randomized, and clearly stated so.
But give the poor guy a break! You opened 20 boxed and got nothing,, he opened boxes worth a whopping 7500 zen and got nothing, now THAT feeling of disappointment is a different beast to tame!
So your complaining about his complaining is now making me complain about YOUR complaining! So quit complaining! p
Its random chance plain and simple, with the temporal boxes i opened 2 and got a temporal ship so random chance was in my favour, the 65 million ec i got for it was nice tho. Will say one thing about these boxes and, it would seem they are very low on good rewards, me i just bu what i want off the exchange.
The rate is ~ 1:250. As such, if your goal is the ship, don't pursue it by opening lockboxes, buy it off the exchange. You're better off just buying the keys, selling them on the exch and using the EC for the ship you want.
With the Dominion Lockbox I opened over 200 boxes and all I got to show for it was 9 useless Mirror Vo'quv.
The only usefull thing I got from those boxes were Rich Dilithium Mining vouchers and I guess the lobi-crystals.
From that day on I decided that the boxes are just a scam, the first one or two thousant boxes hold a ship (hence the remarks that people get it after 1 or 2 tries)... After that no ships are left to drop from the boxes and you pay EC or Zen for nothing.

when you open 75 to 80 lock boxes and get nothing of value then come talk to me. worth $75 to $80 and get nothing of value for that its borderline robbery. i dont care about the random chance factor when almost everyone i talk to who won the ship got it by opening less than 40 boxes. some one got the ship almost every minute when i played today. i should get some compensation.

Pretty sure that's patently false given that we see people getting some of the really old lockbox ships all the time, otherwise you'd never see those ships on the Exchange.
All it boils down to is random chance being random. If it's 1:250 as stated above, that's 0.4% chance on each box that you'll get a ship. If you open 30 boxes or a million boxes, that doesn't change the fact that each box has less than half of 1% chance of having a ship in it.
The universe has a wonderful sense of humor. The trick is learning how to take a joke.
I think my best results came from the Dominion boxes. Three Jem'Hadar ships, about two dozen or so MK XII Phased Polaron weapons, quite a few good Dominion doffs and close to 100 dilithium mining rights in under 200 boxes.
Course my worst luck came back with the Cardy boxes when I was trying for the Bug ship. I didnt get the bug...not even a freaking Galor and nothing of value to even sell on the exchange.
Its hit or miss man. Hence the nickname "Lottoboxes". Its a gamble you take. As others has said, if its the ship your solely going after, just sell the keys on the exchange and use the money made to purchase the ship.
You never get nothing. Lobi is always the consolation prize which can be used for other good items.
I never play lockboxes for the actual lockbox ship. If I get it fine. I open enough lockboxes to purchase all the items in the Lobi Store that are bind on pickup, then I sell keys on the exchange to get the lobi items and lockbox ships. Sure it might be cheaper to open enough lockboxes, but it is more certain to sell lockbox keys to purchase lockbox ships.

I opened 101 boxes and got nothing beyond some blue weapons boxes, tal shiar codes, fleet mark/exp boosts, a bunch of Doff packs and a little over 400 lobi so I guess I can come talk to you?
As others have said, it's a random lotterly. Don't play the lottery expecting to win 'the prize' as you'll most likely walk away unhappy.
i really dont understand the people who just don't by the ship from the exchange.
With a key worth 1.5mill ec, 60-70 keys worth of ec and the ship is yours. Then we can end these sob stories and actually talk about the ships performance...
I opened 20 boxes purely for the Lobi to get a gimmick item I wanted (which is the only reason to open lockboxes, the Lobi Store, anything you get beyond that is gravy), got lucky and hit the Destroyer.
Was happy to sell it for 105 million. It's really not that great that I felt the need to hoard the thing. I'd rather have 20 other things I can buy with that much EC. And frankly I think it will be 90 million soon enough, so I might as well sell now.

It's nice getting consolation stuff like lobi crystals, doff packs(yes there are way too many but some you can use, sell on the exchange, or what I like to do - turn them in at fleet rep project for FC), rare equipment, special doff assignments, mining claims(never have to grind dil again, although I wish they were account bound!),...etc.
Still, you have to approach lockboxes with the right attitude. It's gambling, and you're never owed anything gambling. Last month I opened about 30 temporal boxes and got a temp sci vessel. Awesome. Now, I opened maybe 70-80 TalShiar boxes and got no premium ship(although the destroyer is hideous, but still...). But I knew this going in and can't muster any more outrage than simple disappointment.
I'm usually skeptical about all of the flyout announcements of winners...however...
I won the destroyer on my 23 box.
Believe me...I was surprised too...especially considering how many temporal lockboxes I opened and never got a ship.
Those announcement drive me nuts. I have to keep the chat window closed as much as I can thanks to that. It really is a clever/sleazy way to hook people. "Oh look, another super lucky person gets a rare ship and I am still not lucky. Oh, it's been 17 seconds and I can see yet another super lucky person who must be so happy he's luckier than, say,....me."

As others have said, its random chance. That in of itself isn't the problem. The real question are what are the odds? If you look around the forums you will find several threads speaking about that very subject. In fact a few days ago someone helpfully posted the result of opening 6000 boxes in tribble.
The odds are ridiculously low to get anything good, much less a ship. The cheapest way to get it barring having amazing luck is to buy keys, sell them on the exchange and the use the proceeds to outright buy an Adapted Destroyer off the exchange.
Considering that Cryptic won't even post the odds themselves I find avoiding random chance completely to be the best way to get anything I want. Personally, I believe there's an algorithm that allows more or less ships to be won depending on unknown factors, if I had to guess the odds of someone getting a ship would increase the longer its been since one was won. But that is only a guess. They say its not that way at all, and yet refuse to post the odds....
I am curious to see the results of 6,000 lockboxes. I opened 1,000 of the original boxes. You can see the results of that in my signature. I saw no evidence to suggest the odds changed in the first two lockboxes, but have lot looked at the later ones.
You can also see my measurements of the overall ship creation rate via the system chat spam. The ships end up as anything but "rare", so that justification for why they have to go into lockboxes is weak at best.
I refuse to spend any real money on this game anymore. They do not have enough respect for their customers to post the odds, as any lottery is required to do. These ridiculously long odds lead to people spending a lot of money to get a ship, which is great for Cryptic and bad for many of their customers.

you don't "need" anything, you don't even "need" to play the game, but you play cause you like to, so people like to get good stuff for the game to be more fun for them.... is that so difficult to understand?...your not a Klingon are you?...

Honestly, the worst part about the Tal Shiar boxes IMO is getting the stupid "Trivial number of fleet marks or fleet credit" vouchers. 100 fleet marks or 10,000 fleet credits are like 10 minutes of my time.
They're in reward packs. Click on that category and searched for "Adapted Destroyer" and you'll see tons of them. Last I checked the cheapest was 103m.
I'm sure they'll go up in price as more people hit 50 on their romulans and the master key sale ends, so if you have the cash buy them now.
Or if you prefer to spend keys, I'll swap the one I got for... 120 keys?

No ship. 2-3 traits (always the same useless "conduit"), 4-5mirror ship, a lot of everything else.
