have you asked the winners if they are lifers or subscribers?? Lets face it. rgardless of how much we F2P peole actualy spend on then game ( usually more than lifers or subscribers ) PWE doesnt give a rat about us.. We can spend thousands and we'll never get a single thing. And no, I do NOT believe it is random like everyone wants to believe.. the days of fairness and honor went out the door a long time ago..
With the Dominion Lockbox I opened over 200 boxes and all I got to show for it was 9 useless Mirror Vo'quv.
The only usefull thing I got from those boxes were Rich Dilithium Mining vouchers and I guess the lobi-crystals.
From that day on I decided that the boxes are just a scam, the first one or two thousant boxes hold a ship (hence the remarks that people get it after 1 or 2 tries)... After that no ships are left to drop from the boxes and you pay EC or Zen for nothing.
see now whit al those key you could have sel them for 200 million ec anough to buy your ship consol doff or what ever you whant at the exchange :I
I never got anything worth mentioning from any of the previous lock boxes. I wanted a Galor badly so I bought it from the Exchange. However my luck seemed to turn a few weeks ago since I got the destroyer from the very first Tal Shiar lock box I opened. I then thought that I should perhaps buy a different type of lock box and see how I would do. I bought 10 Dominion lock boxes. The 3rd one I opened gave me a Jem'hadar Heavy Escort Carrier. Since then, it's back to normal
It is random. Meaning that you could open a million boxes and still get nothing.
I am really upset with how many boxes you have to open. i have spent 7500 zen and got only 5 purple items. this is really up setting to since all of the winner i have spoken to have opened less than that most of them opened less than 30. this is really unfair.
ok just to put you in the picture, if you double your amount then triple it you will be almost at the amount that i have spent and about half of what my friend has spent.
we have decided just to sell keys and buy it of the exchange after we have done our doff research, so much easier. oh and 5 purple items in 7500 zen, i call total pure BS with that amount of zen spent, we spent 6k zen each at the weekend and we ended up with so many nanite purples we vendored about 25 each.
oh and just to make you feel better you could of bought 1 off the exchange for the amount of zen you have used. we are doing it for doffs but if your doing it for ship you must be nuts
.
7500zen= 84million <theres your destroyer
The rate is ~ 1:250. As such, if your goal is the ship, don't pursue it by opening lockboxes, buy it off the exchange. You're better off just buying the keys, selling them on the exch and using the EC for the ship you want.
This is so TRUE....you dont complain if you lose 100K in the slots at Vegas why then complain now. This is GAMBLING and as such do know the pros and cons....its common knowledge odds are 1:250 boxes...why....see the forums...so much better just buying the ship off the exchange....:D:D:D
when you open 75 to 80 lock boxes and get nothing of value then come talk to me. worth $75 to $80 and get nothing of value for that its borderline robbery. i dont care about the random chance factor when almost everyone i talk to who won the ship got it by opening less than 40 boxes. some one got the ship almost every minute when i played today. i should get some compensation.
you should get compensation?
wow well aren't you a very direct individual. I am sorry but khazimir is right, you are basically whining about random chance. Since I've been playing I've spent around $200 or more on lock box keys over two years, I've won 3 ships, 2 mirrors and a tholian orb weaver. Do i complain about something that is openly stated as random chance or do i accept the fact i was stupid enough to spend so much money on something that is "random"?
I accept the fact that im that stupid.
if you dont like it dont try to win anything and just dont bother but dont start asking for compensation, what did you think this was? some sort of "injured at work" case? grow up.
cryptic deserve compensation from you from being so mentally inept on their forum.
I bought mine on Exchange for 114 mil on the 1st or 2nd day after LoR's launch. Overall, I'm disappointed with the purchase for these reasons:
1) For a destroyer-class ship, Tal Shiar Adapted Destroyer has way too much inertia, so it slides around like a wet ice cube on a frozen lake when trying to stop.
2) The shrapnel torpedoes are very difficult to see because they have no rear illuminated rocket trail. Its damage output is "meh."
3) The special tal shiar ship consoles all have 3 minute cooldowns for such medeocre abilities. 2 minutes per console would have been more appropriate
4) The shrapnel torpedo launcher should have been a forward mounted weapon with a single-projectile firing mode and build in Torp-Spread (2 minute cooldown). It should not be a console when it actually produces and launches torpedoes.
I am really upset with how many boxes you have to open. i have spent 7500 zen and got only 5 purple items. this is really up setting to since all of the winner i have spoken to have opened less than that most of them opened less than 30. this is really unfair.
It took me 20 boxes to get an Adapted Destroyer.
Really, at anything over 60 boxes, you'd have been better off just buying the keys and selling them on the exchange, and using the EC to buy the ship.
I'm not sure I understand the nature of the complaint, here. If everyone was getting TRIBBLE, I could see it, but (god I hate to admit this) the more recent boxes have been yielding better results and more useful stuff than the earlier boxes.
It's just luck, man. On a lark a few days ago I did five old Cardassian boxes and ended up with a Galor. Before you start in on me about what you've spent, I've done a 250-lockbox run before with not a single ship to show for it, so trust me, it's really all luck.
I opened boxes to get enough Lobi to buy a JhDC. I opened all kinds of different boxes, different numbers of each of the boxes released up until the Dominion Lock Box. It must have been somewhere near 200 boxes in total... and not one prize ship.
Was the cost of the JhDC worth it anyway? It's a great ship, but I'm sad to say, it wasn't worth the cost. I learned my lesson.
Forget the possibility of PvP, for so much has become pay-to-win, never to be balanced. Forget the promise of exploration and research, for in the grim dark future of Star Trek Online there is only war. There is no peace amongst the stars, only an eternity of carnage and slaughter, and the laughter of thirsting publishers.
Op know what you are getting into before you enter into it you should know the odds before you do anything the odds on hitting the ship are crazy long as for what you went through, son since this event started I have opened 341 boxes 341!!! and no ship but im not crying about it because I KNEW the odds going in and had enough lobi to get a few things lol more than a few things im happy with what I got in return do I wish it was a ship yeah of course but hell I made enough to get 2 lobi ships and some gear so I really complain ......and neither should you
I am really upset with how many boxes you have to open. i have spent 7500 zen and got only 5 purple items. this is really up setting to since all of the winner i have spoken to have opened less than that most of them opened less than 30. this is really unfair.
Ok, math time.
10 keys cost 1125 Zen.
7500 Zen got you 6 10-packs of keys
Selling those could have got you 86M EC.
The Adapted Destroyer is currently 70M
If ALL you cared about was the ship, you're better off doing the above.
If you wanted the lobi and etc, you gotta take your chances.
Sometimes I think I play STO just to have something to complain about on the forums.
I am really upset with how many boxes you have to open. i have spent 7500 zen and got only 5 purple items. this is really up setting to since all of the winner i have spoken to have opened less than that most of them opened less than 30. this is really unfair.
I just came here to tell you that I opened 2 boxes today for the first time ever, and guess what I got in box number 2? No, not the adapted destroyer, I only got that in the first box I opened. In the 2nd box I got a mirror warbird. I hope this story makes you feel better.
I got one using my free keys from the Romulan Legacy pack, like its been said over and over and over and over its random. You could open one box and get the ship or spend hundreds of dollars on keys and never see one.
Can't have a honest conversation because of a white knight with power
The rate is ~ 1:250. As such, if your goal is the ship, don't pursue it by opening lockboxes, buy it off the exchange. You're better off just buying the keys, selling them on the exch and using the EC for the ship you want.
It is pretty random. I have gotten ships, traits, and other items I wanted without opening very many boxes, but I have also opened a lot and got nothing I really wanted. If you have the credits, buy the ship you want. If not, roll the dice with the lock boxes and take your chances. Sometimes you will get lucky.
Ok, math time.
10 keys cost 1125 Zen.
7500 Zen got you 6 10-packs of keys

Your math is good. If a large portion of players sold keys to buy lock box ships the price of them would tend to the expected value of around 350-360m ec or a bit less. That is not the case for various reasons. The primary good reason to open lock boxes is for the lobi but I get the impression that players don't open them for the lobi.
I think the price is as low as it is because of players failing to use lateral thinking on selling keys to buy ships.
When lock boxes first turned up what I love was all the cheap stuff I could get off the exchange. All the other lock box items get dumped, and it's a great opportunity for new players to get a lot of gear/cheap doff packs.
I am really upset with how many boxes you have to open. i have spent 7500 zen and got only 5 purple items. this is really up setting to since all of the winner i have spoken to have opened less than that most of them opened less than 30. this is really unfair.
Let this be a lesson to all out there.
If you want a lockbox ship, you're better off saving the EC and buying it off the exchange.
Replace the subject ship with any high-end lockbox ship (mirror ships are not "high end") and this thread could have been from years ago. There are some very, very lucky few who get a great ship within a few box openings, but those are extremely rare. Do NOT play the lockbox game for the goal of getting a specific ship. Because the odds of you pulling it off or so awful.
The house always wins, people. It will get its money, especially with you opening up your wallet in a frenzy of trying to get a special ship.
I will say this: I've never received a Very Rare ship(specific to the naming of the Lockbox) from the lockboxes, ever, and I've spent money on them....but:
I've had various XI and XII purple weapons of various types: ground and space, If I get a damn pistol: exchange, basically almost anything XI ends up exchange or Fleet Bank. XII weapons depending on what type or if I get repeats end up in exchange/account/fleet bank, it seriously depends on which weapons they are and what ship they go best on for buff/debuff/DPS.
I've had/hate Mirror Ships, these are a slap in the face for someone like me who has been around since almost launch, has C-Store ships, and Fleet Ships:
I cannot fathom the want for these much, as you never get cross faction ones, let alone they have the same damn models as the normal ones when they should be vastly different. Why would the Klingons and Romulans of mirror side have the same ship designs visually? Fed ones are explained somewhat but still stupid, different models are needed, no excuse, otherwise off to the exchange with them (unless you want a ship for no dilithium when you rank up; but if you buy keys with zen or dilithium....kind of pointless again if opening the lockbox, otherwise buy on exchange!)
Doff sets: too many to count, and most worthless to me because 50% I could not use because Doff count in ship was too high, so off to the Fleet/Account/Alts and sometimes exchange. Some were good. Like the purple Tholian/Romulan/Reman/Dominion officer ones.
Temporal Doff missions: interesting, but not much.
Holonovel Bank thing: I assume they came from lockboxes? they are super rare now, lots of expensive on exchange, but I still want the whole Hamlet Hologram crew so I can see what happens if I run the Doff mission.... >_>
Romulan Tal'Shiar Doff missions: also rare on exchange if you find them, also rare from lockboxes, but you need a set amount to actually progress the doff missions even though it says that completing mission successfully(or critical) would enable you to continue them as if you did not need the lockbox rewards.
Cross Faction Consoles: Were to begin, I kind of like them, I mean it's still kind of funny because it prevents the faction that would get from buying a C-store ship with said console from not acquiring it from the lockbox.
Dilithium Mining Rights Claim: HELLO! God I love it, when you don't play much, you can use these to earn more Dilithium and if you can play the exchange=zen=keys/store buying power. This makes it one of the few things that go "I did not get screwed"
LOBI CRYSTALS: Okay this gets complicated, on one hand, it is not rewarding enough, on the other enables you to save up and buy some stuff, some ships, couple of weapons, rebuy some things that used to be in old lockboxes (consumables mostly). One thing I did not like recently was how you (if you were like me) had used some on the Crystalline Powered Suit set, and then we had the Nukara Reputation system come about. It kind of make spending those 150-250 Lobi?(I can't remember the Lobi amount) on the upgrade that then only netted you some marks/dilithium when you registered the set in Reputation.
But other than that, I just wish the lockboxes would drop more Lobi than they do.;)
The original Cardassian box and possibly the Ferengi boxes: They were kind of cheap on drops, specifically: Combo Ground/Space Devices/Batteries, and same with Team Ones I think? The damn Runabout, why lord? and some other stuff.:(
But this is mostly off topic as you were complaining about the Tal'Shiar Adapted Destroyer, also is the Battle Crusier worth the Lobi? lol.:D
I am really upset with how many boxes you have to open. i have spent 7500 zen and got only 5 purple items. this is really up setting to since all of the winner i have spoken to have opened less than that most of them opened less than 30. this is really unfair.
of course I agree. I stupidly spent nearly 1000 zen recently on the keys for that box and the dominion in hopes on getting the Jem'hadar escort ship. It was of course a waste of money.
But it just takes sooooo much time to try and collect EC to get the ships on the exchange that, sometimes you want to take a chance on the box, cause it seems that your odds are better at those (as slim as they are), than raising
EC for the exchange.
I hope (though it says it won't be) that the new risian corvette ship becomes trade-able because then I could get enough EC to get the ship I want on the exchange.
I opened up $ 100 USD in boxes.. I got no purple items.. 20 weapon packs.. 79 officer packs and some mirror ships.. I also only got 500 crystal coins. the highest i got out of a box was 15 coins. this is just damn sad. Then with all the errors in game.. WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????
do they think money grows on trees >>> HAVE THEY LOOKED OUT SIDE..... THE ECONOMY IS ****.. DAMN THEY PULL STUPID (s) LIKE THIS
Economy is actually looking good, at least I the US
Not that I really thought it got all that bad anyway. Lots of available jobs, its just those who were unemployed either lacked skills or were too skilled for what was on the market.
Anyway, I've spent countless hundreds on lockbox ships on my Fed main. JHAS, Dkora, Galor, Wells, ect, I have them all. At least up until these Tal Shiar ships... decided to save the cash...
After spending a couple hundred for the original JHAS, not getting it, then getting it off a lucky grab off the exchange for 20mil, I learned my lesson and stopped opening lockboxes for ships, it's just easier to sell keys and buy what I want with EC
I am really upset with how many boxes you have to open. i have spent 7500 zen and got only 5 purple items. this is really up setting to since all of the winner i have spoken to have opened less than that most of them opened less than 30. this is really unfair.

Personally, for me, everything in the boxes were valuable to some extent, and the ships were a nice bonus.
I have gotten over 300 Rich Dilithium claims. Valued at over 1.5million Dilithium. - not worthless
Numerous doff packs. - Not worthless for helping alts and my fleet.
Lobi Crystals - Not worthless (allowed me to buy the Adapted Battle Cruiser, which is my current ship)
Mirror Universe Ships - Sold on the exchange for 65K each - Not worthless
Ground Traits - Used 1 and sold some others on the exchange for millions of ec - Not worthless
A bunch of other stuff that, while not being the ship, is not worthless since it can be sold.
I have looted 3 Adapted Destroyers. 1 I used, 1 I sold, and the last one is sitting in the bank.
I don't even use the Adapted Destroyer anymore since I got the Adapted Battle Cruiser. The Cruiser has better stats.

Random is random...I used my 30 keys I got free from the legacy pack and I got a destroyer...mind you this is the first lockbox ship I've ever won. I tried for the tholian science ship back in the day and never got it and opened a ton of boxes.
