I am commander . Recently I fought in Arena (yay, queue poped up!), an FvF. In the first match, there was I (Fed in Akira), and 7 Romulans. Serving as a bait in an escort is not really funny thing to do.
In the second one, there was me and another Fed with 2 Valodres and the other side was 3 Romulans with 1 Fed.
I had also the bad feeling, that with the warp cores and other stuf native to Romulans the relative balance of low level PvP was thrown out of airlock.
After those two I wonder... what's the point? I was fighting FvF when I got enough of flying around in Ker'rat in vain hope of finding some Klink and getting fight. Or cursing when half dead one was running away and cloaking and I had my Evasives on CD. Now there is no reall difference. FvF, FvK...
Why bother with those anyway if there is no difference? Actually - why bother with PvP if there is really no choice as of who you fight (Rom, Klink - it's the same)?
Do not misunderstand me. I love FvK on low levels. I join queues, roam in Ker'rat. But when I join FvF it is to fight another Fed, not Romulans. I was doing it to have nice, clean fight without hiders. Just some hull smashing.
Now it's all fracked up. Cryptic messed it up a bit to much for my taste. I probably just roll a Romie to check new storyline. And then check Witcher I bought year ago and never played.
Thanks Cryptic. You are really good when it comes to TRIBBLE up with PvP experience for me.
because inititally fvf had less spam than fvk... and maybe now people will still prefer fvf eventhough there could be an equal amount of spam... and cloaking? :P
give all Fed Ships Cloak too and problem is over ...
or take out PVP of the Game because no one plays it because its not good made and other Games do it better:rolleyes:
First there was just FvK, but complaint by some followed and we got FvF and FvK and the other ques so those whom did not want to fight "unfairness" could PvP without it.
Following the same pattern of thoughtless ideas will not fix anything.
The need for FvF was vehemntly fought debated and near demanded by the player base becuase of KDF unfairness in FvK pvp. Over the years the lines between fed and KDF gameplay has become vanilla due to a similiar set of circumstances. They near play the same, cheese and all, especially now with LoR released.
for feds. wholly ill prepared the vast majority are for the inevitable pain theyll receive from the first decloak alpha theyve been hiding from for years. ha ha.
bugs gonna get squashed like erlichs in the projects. no mercy!
Either way, as a Klink, it's not my problem, but I am enjoying the Schadenfreud, so thanks.
I think it'll be even funnier when FvF dies off and with 80% of the PvP dead it gets shut down completely. Its not rocket science, people generally hate playing against rogues classes BECAUSE they stealth. Is cloaking part of the IP? Of course. But now we see what really happens when one side says no to a military advantage on moral grounds. They have to sit around and wait to be attacked and hope they can survive a planned and coordinated attack from enemies they can't see. Wow! Does that sound ever so fun!! .... /facepalm.
Players can act superior all they want, but in the end belittling others will only result in making PvP more and more irrelevant in the game. What's the point of being a big fish in a pond getting smaller everyday?
Honestly, did nobody see this coming? We all pointed out this is what would happen yet people refused to listen. You just made two factions pretty much the same and this is what you get. Boring, repetitive gameplay with no real distinction between any side. Congrats.
I haven't been tempted to join ANY queues since i got bsckfrom holiday. What's the point? Everything is biggy, the feds now have leech and i can't even stay logged in lol.

Not to change the topic... but the feds didn't not have cloak due to some moral imperative. They had no cloak because they signed a treaty with the Romulans......
Who are now joining them.... um hu
Or who are homicidal manics that are not relevant anymore....
Honestly the idea that the federation wouldn't start using cloaking at this point is just silly. If the events of the game unfold as they have there is no doubt the federation would install a cloak on every single ship in there fleet. Perhaps they wouldn't run around cloaked all the time form system to system... but if they where going into a hot zone darn right they would go in cloaked.
Its pretty much the most illogical piece of writing you can imagine. They didn't really think through the ramifications of blowing up a home world... destryoing a Romulan Gov and creating a new one willing to join sides... I would think the Romulans who are now the legit gov per Star Fleet would hand any tech the Feds didn't already have over.
Really the feds don't not have cloak cause they can't create one... it was all because of a treaty with a gov that no longer exists... its pretty weak writing. lol
Perhaps they need to write in a peace accord with the Klingons and have them sign a new none cloak agreement... cause fed diplomats are dumb like that.
Frankly, in ST cloak is not that usefull both in tactical and strategical terms. You can detect starships in cloak with sensors more powerfull then what you have on starships (bases, listening posts) even in lightyear distance. And it's pretty much impossible to use them in combat after it started because of long cloaking sequence and lack of shields - that means one torp or fully powered phaser shot and you are dead.
Third - in ST there is no such thing as "decloaking alpha strike". It simply does not work due to the shields (yay, we have shields). Not to mentaion that disruptors dont gain power and deal more damage just because you just decloaked. If anything it's the reverse as you need to actually transfer power from cloak to other systems.
So STO approach to cloak is not quite cannical. The fact that Feds are not mounting it is just small pimp on all this.
And as someone said - it's not FUN to fight cloakers (especially if you do not want to). Game is about... FUN! No fun, no game.
Why?
Because it gives Fed another choice besides having to deal with all the crutch build KDF teams?
I remember when there was only F vs K and a lot of PVP'rs stopped playing PVP because they got sick of the way the Klingon premades and pugs would play.
I could go on and on giving examples of the things that the Klingons do or did that drove Fed players out of the queue's, or caused them to demad F vs F so that they could finally enjoy PVP and not have to deal with the Klingon players and thier "I win" button ships and less than honorable tatics.
Since then the 2 Factions have become more and more simmilar in abilities and equipment some of it has died down, but there are still some Klingon premades and players that rely solely on cheese and spam to win and it keeps many Fed players from F vs K queue's permanently.
I all boils down to Fed teams that really wanted good (fair) PVP couldent get it in the old F vs K queues.
When your fighting vs an enemy that has abilites/gear/tatics that there is no defence against and it ends up being just a big spawn camp there is no reason to ever enter that queue again.
So Cryptic adding F vs F was one of the few good decisions they made. At the time it was introduced it saved a lot of players from leaving the game to find better more balanced PVP.
Says you. I remember klinks would stay cloak until all the feds warped out due to boredom and the klinks would call VICTORY! meh.
Then again this was pre-carrier days. When they put up fvf I heavy reduced my fvk play time due to this reason. The only time I did fvk was in the kiddy pool.

Every time i see someone ask 'whats the point' in this game i am reminded how many ... (edit to remove the phrase 'narcissistic douchebags') *people cant seem to see thing outside of their own narrow perspective or 'fun; parameters as being anything but useless.
Let me ask you another question (as i completely ignore the entirety of this thread past its title, i'm cool like that, so i can pull it off. its not recommended)
You're playing an online pewpew game named after a fantasy epic with poor acting and terrible writing almost throughout the entire genre, ( ez nerds,, i love trek too)
Whats the point?
You're spending hours on end delving into how to get 1.8% more dps out of the left most turret on the aft of your digital ship when in fact it means absolutely nothing to anyone anywhere in the world but yourself, if even that.
Whats the point?
You're spending hundreds of dollars trying to get a virtual ship out of a box you'll use to sell to buy more keys to open more boxes to sell for more ship to sell for more keys to open more boxes to get more shi......
Whats the point?
you're wasting your life 'n growing a big fatt (_|_) staring at pixilated images of a future you'll ultimately have no part in creating because you're stuck to a screen playing pretend instead of focusing your considerable (or not) talents on who pewpews the bestest instead of something actually meaningful like tesla's theories or how to build a better grape or why so many people in 'my' generation jUst don't give a damn.
Whats the point?
I love you guys, and i'd tell you more often. but you don't love me, so,
I figure,

That treaty was the in-world excuse. The real reason it got into the canon bible that feds can never have cloak was:
A) Gene thought real heroes don't go sneaking around. CBS agreed with Gene on that.
So yeah, no cloaking feds works when its a fed centered story, but when you make it into a game and the cloakers are not just baddie NPCs... problems can arise. Mainly in that not everyone that might enjoy casual PvP is going to want to deal with excessive cloaking. Its a matter of taste and if its forced on people they will simply leave. Others will stick to it and thrive. Unfortunately if the pattern seen on most games and indeed Cryptic's own Champions Online, then stealthers will indeed be the cause of a lot of player antipathy towards PvP.
Honestly I do not know what a fix would be, any mechanic that would make cloak less effective would further degrade cloak's questionable utility in PvE for the sake of PvP, something Cryptic is very loath to do. Perhaps the tailpipe console can become a passive ability and make all torps stealth seekers? But then cloaking would become too situational.

That wouldn't help the OP...he doesn't want any cloaking in FvF. Well, you know - outside of the Defiant and random Gal-X....

Jerry, a Fed, never complains about the lack of Battle Cloak.
Feds get Battle Cloak via Romulans.
Tom is happy.
Jerry is not happy.
Why rag on Jerry for not being happy?
Such misdirected rage...
