What was the most stupid thing you ever did in STO?

angrytargangrytarg Member Posts: 11,001 Arc User
Let's take a break from complaining about others ( ;) ) and let this thread exist in the spirit of some light self-mockery :D

What do you consider the most stupid thing you ever did in this game, something that really made you want to bite your own TRIBBLE but which actually lets you laugh once the first moments of frustration passed?

I'll begin with something recent. Today, I blew 500 Omega-marks and some Dil because I cancelled a project AFTER contributing almost anything when I noticed the char was short on dil. I took little notice that all my contributed stuff will just vanish if canceled (and I still think it is a bad system just waiting for people like me to fall into that trap) and *poof* it was gone. I tell you, I'm still feeling stupid but somehow that blatant fail makes me laugh as well.

Share your stories. Maybe I don't feel like a lonely fool anymore afterwards :D

When I first started playing the game, I don't know if it was omitted from the tutorial or if I just wasn't paying attention, but it took me a while to realize that I could just hit a button to warp out of a system instead of flying to the edge of the map.

I'm only 7 months into the game, so I probably have done some stupid stuff, but the ones that stand out the most is accidentally canceling my doff assignments and doing a rep project on a item I cant even use since I dont have a carrier. Oh well! You live and you learn!

I did this all well and felt so stupid after I realized it I also kept skipping the episodes instead of doing them and leveling up fast I was stuck as a lieutenant for almost two weeks I have no clue why I did it but am happy I realized it.

When I first started playing, It took me almost three months to realize that I could use the keys on my keyboard instead of clicking with the mouse on-screen, to do everything.

Attacked a Borg Cube alone after getting off on a high of destroying some Borg Spheres. That all lasted a few nanotube seconds.

accidentally donated over 250k in dilithium to a fleet project. I thought it was expertise and went max. Cost me a bunch of zen to recoup.

Tricobalt launchers against fighters in the Vault mission when it first came out.

... I now know to be very suspicious when my fleetmates are quiet when we are grouping for missions.

Purchased my first Master Key and unlocked my first Lock Box. This lead to me purchasing a lot more Master Keys and unlocking a lot more Lock Boxes. To date, I have managed (after a small fortune) to acquire both the Galor Cruiser and Jem Hadar Escort (via a Jem Hadar Dreadnought Trade).

The reason I feel this stupid? Simply because I hardly, if ever, use the vessels. I've also got the Chel Grett, but I don't remember the last time I fired that up either. My Federation character (the one that has these three ships) alternates between a Fleet Excelsior & Fleet Assault Cruiser. My lock box rewards don't get a look in anymore.

Opening Lockboxes ... instead of simply buying the new stuff on the exchange ...

I forgot a zero while selling a Temporal Destroyer on the exchange. :o

And once I was buying a Very Rare MK XII Deflector on the exchange for a fleetmate and traded it to the wrong person. Fortunately the person was honest and traded right back. :D
My Romulan Liberated Borg character made it to Level 30 and beat the (old) Defense of New Romulus with the skill point bug. :D

    Two things stand out.

    1. I bought the EV suit from the C-Store and accidentally slotted it onto one of my BO's without realizing it, and though ST:O ate it, so I bought another one.

Only later after getting like 3-4 on screen messages from one of my Science BO's did I realize he was wearing the EV Suit.

    2. I accidentally sold my only chef through the Exchange. DOH! Then couldn't do any of the DO Assignments that required a Chef.

I finally knuckled under and bought a replacement common chef from the exchange, only to be awarded a Blue one in a reward pack that I looted.

    Oh, opening lockboxes, definitely.

Nowadays I only do it to get Lobi, and only with keys purchased with funny money from the exchange, and I *still* feel like a moron for doing it.

I opened the Jem'hadar Attack ship box. It is a great ship but it isnt for me. I wish I had saved it and later sold it for hundreds of millions of energy credits.

Well I've gone to tribble and taken on a unimatrix on my own, killed it but not a smart thing to do and took almost all my time to do so.

Sold 5 masterkeys for the price of 1.

Bought the Ody pack which I no longer use.

Opened a recluse and orb weaver on a 2nd Engineer toon before realising I hated humans and switching back to my alien.

Ground a starbase to T3 with a few people and then just gave it away as the fleet was dead.

Bought LTS (though that firework is totally worth it!)

Switch to new ship, deck it all out, get it all working then declare the ship to be fail 3 minutes into elite STF. Then at the end notice it's still on balanced power setting....

I could go on but I have a 2nd Romulan to finish leveling...

It is through repetition that we learn our weakness.
A master with a stone is better than a novice with a sword.

Has damage got out of control?
This is the last thing I will post.

I deleated a character to make a current one, but i had saved her to Tribble, a test server yes i know, but i thought it was a 'smart' idea to have one character there to make room for more, im not kept in the 'swing' of things and STO is and always will be, my first MMO, i had no idea that they wipe the servers, soo in the end, my first KDF General, with her 2nd aniversary flagship are gone forever:o

Before realizing that you had to go pick up attachments from mail at actual mail locations I thought you could just delete the mail and it would automatically put the item back into your inventory. Yeah, no. I lost some really good equipment (including a Wells ship I tried to sell) because of being a wee bit slow on the uptake on this one. A rather expensive learning experience there.

I once made the mistake of flirting with this really good looking female toon once because she was really cute. Yeah, turns out "she" wasn't so much of a she. Rather embarrassing actually. You never know who is on the other side of the keyboard no matter how they present themselves. A bit of a caution of being wary there (not that I'm sure most of you need the warning).

Not taking a 50 mil EC offer yesterday for the Jem Escort Carrier and instead unpacking it on my Tactical Captain. This was the second time the ship dropped for me and I had used the first one(mistakenly so) with my science captain to try something different. The ship looks cool and has the fighters but still feels underwhelming somehow so I assumed it would be more awesome and amazing with a Tactical captain to take advantage of all those fun dual heavy cannons.

Nope...ship still underwhelms, at least for me, and I was back in my Defiant Retro-Fit after a couple of Fleet Alerts. Those 50 million ECs would have been nice to buy more keys with with all the damn lock boxes I have in the bank from drops, lol.

Also had a friend join the game finally and mailed them a ton of gear to use at end game, including a bunch of Mk XII (purple) weapons and two lockbox ships(no big deal, they were just mirrors), then he texts me that he gave me the wrong global name and his was off by a couple numbers at the end of what he had given me. Some random person got some really nice stuff, and never even bothered to thank me or my friend for our combined stupidity, lol.
