when launcher tries to launch gameclient.exe I get this error on the status window of the launcher: Error 36: dbghelp.dll file is locked can't write to file then counts down and tries again over and over... any suggestions?
getting the same problem here. cryptic is this a bug or what is it. please fix it
uninstalling and reinstalling did not help. Crypic let us get on and play!!!
I have this exact same problem....After spending the last 3 days patching the thing, I REALLY don't want to have to reinstall and start from scratch. Although as the above member said this didn't help anyway....Hopefully a fix can be found soon.
There was a new patch this morning. Did it help with anyones crashing problem? Mine now hangs at the LOR loading screen for about 10 seconds longer than it did, but it still crashes to desktop .
@jarninjf thanks for letting us know what you've tried. Since none of that worked I won't bother trying the same. I guess we just have to sit tight and wait for a fix. I have a few things to try however and I'll report back if I have any sucsess.
I also am having the patch crash of the STO launcher -- every time! 36 hours and not one minute of game time; players on other forums have reported the same problem. You'd think this wouldn't be an issue as patching was an existing function that has nothing to do with new game content! Very frustrating and disappointing. And without access to a log-in, purchasing a legacy pack is insanity at this point.
I was finally able to get into the game! I think my problems were with Steam, because deleting the game files and reinstalling via Steam left me with the exact same CTD, but manually deleting all of the STO files, downloading the launcher and letting the launcher patch the files worked.
So if you're on Steam, or just desperate, give it a whirl.
I tried what adamkafei mentioned but still no luck. How did you change to DX9 mode? In the Gameprefs file? I change it to DX9 and it chages back to DX11. I don't know of any other way to change DX mode other than In-game.
That's good to know and I'm glad you can get in game now. I'm not using the Steam version so I doubt this would work for me. I am desperate but I don't see how deleting the files would help in my case...hmmm....didn't you already uninstall/reinstall the game..would this not be the same as deleting the files and re-patching? I'm not sure why that didn't work for you in the first place...

It's in the in game video settings (safe mode defaults to lowest possible, hence I mentioned it) scroll to the bottom of the list and open "Troubleshooting", it's the first option in that section, it should default to DX9 (lowest settings and all) but specify it just to be sure and reboot in standard mode.

Ah, thanks. Unfortunately me and most other people in this thread can't even get to the options screen. Even in safe mode it still crashes at the LOR loading screen. Hence why I tried to edit the configuration file. I guess it's down to Cryptic to come up with a fix cos' I've tried everything I can think of bar a complete reinstall and I'm not convinced that would help anyway..
I updated my graphics drivers last night. Now instead of crashing to desktop at the loading screen it just hangs there indefinitely...An improvement of sorts.
Just recently came back to the game after about a month, I did not have this problem then but after the patch it seems i cannot get passed the cryptic loading screen... has anyone found a fix for this yet?
just uninstall and reinstalled for the 6th time since legacy launched and still no luck.. is there something im missing? does the technical support people read those tickets or look at the forum?

Since yesterday I've reinstalled the game, repatched the game, reinstalled nvidia drivers and reinstalled directx. Still crashing at the same point.
The odd thing is that I have no problem logging into Tribble and playing
So, going on 36 hours of downtime. Wondering when (if?) we'll see a response from Cryptic.

This is clearly a STO error and not an operating system error.
So if you're on Steam, or just desperate, give it a whirl.

Just as I thought I had it fixed...
EDIT: Disregard, it finally started working using ^ that method.
