same problem, and it's only on holodeck. tribble works fine, i can go to character select there with no issue, also can log in to neverwinter and champions.
There is no bug... Its just everyone is trying to log in. I was just in the game for 5 minutes before getting kicked again. Their servers cant handle the load of people trying to connect.

don;t not listen to this person. hes a fool. and for the future plz dont post on things you have no idea what your talking about and leave it to the ppl that do. what you said would have been no help at all and would have given them a bigger headache for trying it.

If that is the case, then that is a pretty big failure on their part. I do my best to not be a "Negative Nancy," and give them credit where credit is due - but how can you not hype an expansion of this magnitude (which they have been doing) and not do your utmost to be prepared? This happens too often for Cryptic, and they receive negative feedback on it every time, and from the outside, it appears as if all that's been done is lip service being paid.
It is very frustrating to see this happen more frequently than it really should; I have no doubt the technicians are as frustrated as the customer base is, on top of being embarrassed.
Based on previous performance I know Cryptic will get it sorted out, so I have faith that they will get it all hammered out. Even so, I reiterate it is frustrating to see some behavioral patterns don't seem to want to go away.

And I totally agree with you! There should have been some sort of server load test done before they released this expansion because it did draw back a lot of romulan fans who had stopped playing the game.
I had this same issue logging in where it said my name and password were wrong. After several tries it put me in a log in queue where I was for like 20 minutes. Luckly I was 272 out of 1700+ (hate to be the guy at the end of that line), I finally logged in, saw other people playing, saw the new trait system, talked to a fleet mate, then got kicked and Im starting from square one again.
Can't log in on the Gateway (says some "one-time code" was entered incorrectly or somesuch), can't retrieve character lists for an unknown reason. Any chance PW will do any kind of PR on the issue?
EDIT: And it's not showing me as having bought a lifetime sub on the forums, either. Lovely lol
I've been having the same issues as well. I get through the log in screen and it appears to continue then the "Retrieving Character List..." dialogue appears. About 30 seconds after that there is an unknown log in error, then it brings me back to the log in screen it happened right after the patch. I had no problems last night, then the patch.
When use http://gateway.startrekonline.com to view my characters, of my characters one does not load correctly. While all three Federation characters are Federation and two of my Klingon characters remain Klingon, one of my Klingon characters, my main general on top of that, does not load properly. And on its character select Khern@Khern displays with a red (tactical) Federation icon next to his name, despite being a Klingon Engineer.
Something seems wrong. I do hope my character files remain intact. Could something this disastrous (considering time and effort) have happened with the addition of more character slots? And could something like this prevent characters from loading? If he is suddenly filed with the wrong faction but owning Klingon vessels?

I hate the fact Perfect World force-joined STO and PW accounts...
Same or similar problem. Crashes during Cryptic log on. I get a fatal error crash with tech data of AMD Radeon HD 7560D. However I've been running the game fine (both Holodeck and Tribble) until the patch. Tribble still works for me.
just bug reporting

Dear God, overkill much? Not that I disagree lol.
Thanks for the humor; needed it as I have the same problem you are all experiencing with login.

I can get into gateway fine, it's the (gateway) character select that's bugged for me lol.
