Hi Captains. We're continuing to investigate the "login failed for unknown reason" error that some players are seeing at the login screen.
I'm also having the "Login failed for an unknown reason" error.
I can login through the launcher just fine, the client launches just fine, and it goes through the login process to "Retrieving list of characters" before it hangs for roughly a minute before returning the unknown reason error message and kicks me back to the login screen. I can re-enter my password there without crashing, but the same thing happens every time: "Login failed for an unknown reason."
Just repeat to yourself "It's just a show. I should really just relax."
It doesn't happen on this scale with other MMO's. They prepare and deal with launches much better than this, I've never had these kind of issues with Blizzard. There have been server fails for the past month with this game, but of course people like you would rather resort to name calling over the internet instead of telling PW to upgrade their servers.
Nope, you're lying. I've been in every single WoW's expansion release days, and every single one had slow logins, dropped connections, queues, and the like.
Hmm.. Randomly booted, then every time I get to the retrieving character list section it times out and says I can't log in for unknown reasons. I'm assuming it's because so many others are doing the same thing and the server can't handle it. The bright side being that with so many other people having the same problem, it's probably not my pc.
Haters gonna hate. This happens in every game I play after a major expansion/DLC. OP is just looking for an excuse to rage.
I haven't played a game in the past few years that a new patch or expansion completely made the game unplayable for the grand majority(if not all) players.
We are investigating an issue where some Gold Members may not have received their additional character slot -- details here.
UPDATE! We are also investigating reports of slow patching and are working on a resolution. For a better patch experience, please restart your launcher. It will pick up where it left off and should be faster to complete.

I've seen a lot of posts already, and it is just now after 6:15 EST. Just about the time a lot of folks are getting home ready to play LoR. This thread is about to get very very long unless they pull the server for some emergency maintenance and fix whatever is wrong. Either way, a lot of folks are getting angry. We accepted and even expected some day one problems with this massive release, but an "Unknown Reason" is a really bad reason not to be able to play.
I was lucky enough to play some of the beta. We have good things in-store for us. Fingers crossed!!
Yea, I would at least like to know what's actually wrong and maybe an ETIC too.
what would probably fix the playing problem is ......hmmmm give sto its own dang server instead of multiple games on it. but that costs money..fore shame on me for asking them to spend money we give them for cryptic points on the game

The anoying part is that i'm waiting to play this for more than 6 hors... and still problems..
I bet they are on overload now and have a safety for servers

First hours of a new major update, on the first day of it's release. No matter the game, there will always be bugs and issues. Patience.
+1 to reporting that there is an issue.

Now be fair, there was no way they could've known this. Seven seasons, sixteen Feature Episodes, all never happened, cause STO's not canon.
As far as I am concerend we still in season 7 beta.
Maco/omega/hg sets remain 100% blocked and don't forget teh flamethrower
