Post game exit patching

Hi all, I'm as basic an enduser as you can be...not the techie sort at the least.
Several days ago, when I finished playing and shut the game down, the loader then started up and starting patching the game. It kept getting stuck a few KB into it so I shut my PC off. Now it is successfully downloading at a sluggish rate. Looks like it needs to download 5886 MB, and it's moving very slowly, at an estimated 9 hours to complete. I don't plan on playing for a bit, so no big deal. But I started looking to see if this is the new way of doing things, and I'm not finding any information. Anyone know about this?

    It's supposed to be a 'pre-patch' to get things ready for Legacy of Romulus.

    Emphasis on 'Supposed to be'.

    What it actually is... is an awful mess that never seems to finish patching, constantly freezing up or cutting out completely and making you start over from the beginning. All solutions seem to be spotty and Cryptic is saying nothing.

    Personally, I've reached the point where I can no longer find it in myself to care, instead I simply hope that this 'dance' is fixed by the 21st for the actual LoR release.

    Thanks! I was just wondering the same thing. The stupid update program had been appears ever since I can remember and it takes ages to finish... that's if it does finish updating.

    Ah, it just finished. Only took 5 hours. Sweet!
