I'm not sure how i feel about this. on one side of the coin we practiclly get a whole new game with a new experience to enjoy with all new technology, adventure zone and graphical updates.
but at the end of the day you'll have to work up all your rep all over again which took weeks maybe months to do depending on how often you play.
I feel fine. After all its a new character so I don't see why someone would feel at a loss, or perhaps entitled to things earned on another. I didn't grow up with games with save functions. When you started a new game it meant starting a new game. I view characters in that light.
Edit: I don't mean to accuse you of being entitled OP. Just my opinion of things in general.
it will suck, but i doubt cryptic will change its mind lol, my only concern is how the hell do you get enough expertise points to fund the rep grinding, with a brand new character.
I will not be bothering. I'm bringing one last character up to 50, doing the reputation on it, then quitting reputations forever on all new characters.

I never had the opportunity to do those rep grinds, mostly because I wasn't able to play soon after the game launched. So, for me it will be a very new exprience. I've done rep grinds before in other games, some of them much, much longer than in STO; also "farming" isn't a big deal for me either, mostly because of the same games in which you had to farm to get anywhere.
Since open beta for LoR, I've been spoiled by how nice it is. I just don't want to play on Holodeck right now and don't want to play Tribble because I don't want to spoil the story, lol!
Anyway, it won't matter to me, because I plan to play my Rommie as my main. The other characters I have (the 2 KDF that are near 50 already) will just farm Dilithium, and the one Fed I have won't be played at all, just used for bank space if I need it.

the rep grinds for STO are different than what you're used to there's no active rep gains. you start projects and have to wait a designated amount of time. usually 20 hours. so basically its like a daily if you think about it. but the process of getting marks and other resources to complete those 'projects' is where the grind is.
As for your second point about not wanting to play until after the xpac has launched i totally agree. i usually stop playing games when the xpac is about to release especially if i intend of leveling a character that can only be created when the xpac comes out.
i haven't played STO in a few weeks. but its not because i don't want to its just that i don't want to continue rep grinds on a character i'm going to shift to my secondary.
I'd feel better about it if there weren't also a brand new rep, which looks like it's going to be entirely based on doing ground missions, or the same space missions which most people avoided doing to get Romulan marks because they provide such pitiful rewards.
Tholian Rep looks like soul crushing boredom waiting to happen, so the idea of doing that on my existing characters, plus my new character(s), PLUS the existing reps... it's a bit much.

Do the mirror universe event when you can. One hour at a hardcore pace can pay for weeks of reputation.

how will you get the cool rep gear then? unless that's not your goal if that's not your goal that's fine as long as you RP.
if you don't RP though i'm curious as to what exactly you do other than float around in sector space and randomly do missions with no objective in mind at max level.
In all honesty, you don't even need the majority of that rep stuff for PvE. It only really factors in for PvP, because you need every edge you can get sometimes.
I could PvE with cheaply-obtained blue items and the right BOFF setup and still do well and pull my weight.
My PvP toon is Krov, of The House of Snoo. Beware of my Hegh'ta of doom.
Omega: ISE, one run can easily last for 2 days of rep projects
New Romulus: Epohhs, though for a new character running the space daily a few times is recommended unless you want to wait until the first Epohh is ready, it also helps with expertise
Nukara: Ground ? no way. But I hear the CE is coming back(Normal and Elite versions) and gives you the choice between fleet marks and nukara marks....

not sure how i feel about the second part.
thoughts?
Well, seeing as i'm grinding the Omega rep for my second Klingon toon right now (One Fed Char T5 Omega & Romulan, One Klink T5 Omega so far) ...
Pretty good. I only started the other day and i'm already at T2.
You're just a machine. And machines can be broken.

that depends on how you wanna play, sure you can pretty much kill anything in regular pve, even with whites lol, but elite STFs unless you enjoy getting popped every single time a borg cube looks at your ship funny, you need omega t4 shield buff, so even if you're not into pvp, you still need to do a bit of rep grind.
and the romulan buffs aren't exactly easy to dismiss either(and their torpedo launcher), tholian rep buffs on the other hand seems that it only really benefits pvpers(with the exception of the tholian t4 buff).
I don't know I never did them.... I got all the marks for OMEGA with the changeover that I did not really have to grind it out, and only did a few STF's to get some gear.
and I never did one single Romulan mission ever on New Romulus or the Romulan missions thanks to the Winter event, and murdering winter bunnies for marks. I loved those races...... So I'm fine with actually now doing New Romulus missions with a Romulan, feels more right then doing them on a Klingon character since my Main will be a Romulan, and my Star Fleet officers have been demoted to slave labor. My Klingons will remain as my PVP characters, and bring glory to their houses.

I have to disagree with you here. I can do Elite STFs with my free Patrol Escort using 2800 FE gear just as easily as I can do it in my Fleet Defiant using full Omega Rep gear. Heck I've watched videos of ships soloing Infected Elite. If 1 ship can solo it the 5 ships without Omega Rep gear can too.
STO is about my Liberated Borg Federation Captain with his Breen 1st Officer, Jem'Hadar Tactical Officer, Liberated Borg Engineering Officer, Android Ops Officer, Photonic Science Officer, Gorn Science Officer, and Reman Medical Officer jumping into their Jem'Hadar Carrier and flying off to do missions for the new Romulan Empire. But for some players allowing a T5 Connie to be used breaks the canon in the game.
I will do the Nukara rep for my main, but I don't see myself getting any of the gear- maybe the ground set if there's a new costume. Otherwise the MXI set I have will do fine.
I will do the Romulan reputation mission to get Reman toons & costumes. I will do the Romulan Reputation for my Romulan toon, 'cause well she'll be Romulan.
But I'm not doing all three reputations with every character that I level up.
I think it's funny that their sole reason for not adding Romulan fleetbases into LOR was because they didn't want people to have to start from scratch all over again. That however is exactly what we're going to have to do when starting Romulan characters and yet there was no mention of that, or the fact that Romulan Characters have to do a Romulan Reputation......what we need to build reputation with ourselves for better relations with ourselves??

Big difference between starting a fleetbase over, and a Rep system....also Why doesn't starfleet just give me the MACO stuff as a Starfleet captain I should just get it

That wasn't the "sole" reason, but it is an important reason. There's already over 16,000 Fleetbases in the game. We don't need another 8,000 full of Rom players screaming they can't get to T4 either. Allowing the Alliance means KDF and Fed based don't lose out when some fans shift to Roms.
As far as the Rep, so what? I'm a member of the Federation or KDF. Why do I need to grind Omega Rep? Why doesn't D'Vak just give it to me to defeat the Borg threat? See? you can say it about anything.

Won't be doing reputation at all with my romulan. In fact, I think I'm the only one who is NOT excited about the romulan faction. I play one Federation character and that's fine for me. The only reason I'm doing a romulan character is so I can farm dil/ec/duty officers for my starbase...and I don't have to spend zen on more character slots. It's not that the reputations are that bad of a grind...farm a few eppohs, play a few estf's and there ya go. Just don't want to waste the resources on a farmer.
I don't care what the header says, I am not now, nor have I ever been, nor will I ever be, an "ARC user".

Too much of a grind. Also it's ridiculous for a Romulan to be the hero via missions and treated like scum via reputation.

good point.. and that's probably the direction i'm going to go just sucks because right now my motivation for playing STO until Tuesday is ZERO.
Borg are just way too boring
