I... I like the Dhelan. It and the Mogai where my favourite Rom ships when I was testing. This is however all pointless, I already know I'll be flying the Valdore/D'deridex when I hit Sub-Admiral.
If that's true.. (Internet and all...) Would you be willing to give Cryptic your designs for the 'betterment of the game'?
We had a discussion of that kind in the old forums.
It was answered by our then community-manager with "don't send us your ships".
So it doeasn't really matter if he's the inventor or not.
That is not fan made ship, that is from the game Star Trek armada 2 its called the veles-class.
No...the ships in those links are, in fact, my designs.
I have designed many ships that have been converted for Bridge Commander, Armada, Legacy...
Trust me. Those designs belong to me. And I have many others for Romulans.
The Pvor, Pkor, Vdan, Pdan, Dpvash (and varients), Vmelak, DDeridex refit and Dvoridex all designed by me. A few folks have converted them for use in various Star Trek games.
Ill put up some screenshots of those designs. But many of them are released for games like BC, Armada, BotF and Legacy. Gregg Strong did a few of the meshes.

I did like some of the design links that you listed i have to say but im not in agreement with your opinion of the new incoming romulan ships i do happen to like several of them. My only complaint with STO ships is when you get stuck with one you cant customize. For instance when you purchase a unique ship and there are no other ships in its "class" so there is no way at all to make anything other than color changes. I like, as an example the t4 fed cruisers where there are 3-4 diff choices in the class and you can do quite a bit of mixing and matching. If there were much more of this available i believe it would eliminate a lot of complaints because unhappy players like the op would be able to put there own mark on there ships. Expecting cryptic to totally redesign all rommy ships a week before launch
But asking them for a lot more by the way of customization options... no reason why we shouldn't see more of that in the near future
I don't have a problem with the ships as they are right now my problem lay along the line of all of the ship are made for tactical toon. So those of us who would rather make science toon have no ship that would grant us the most use of are science bo's abilitys as a science officer or even the use of the ability to target subsystems cause those abilitys are more tied to science ships then the Bo's themselfs. the only science ship I see in the forums for the romulan's isn't useable until lvl 40 and then by the time u reach 50 it's back to escorts. I mean it took 5 season for the Klingons to get some science ship for the lower rank levels. Dose that mean as a romulan science office it will be season 13 be we see some science ship for the ranks under subadmiral 1 and for max rank toons that qualify for the 600 day vet reward if we haven't use are token by that time. at least the Klingons had bops with all unversal stations for those of us who want to be something other than a tac. You guys at cryptic really need to put more though into ship than thinking hey everyone wants to play a tac officer in sto. If you aren't going to put the time in and make ship for each class why take the time to make the dang legacy of Romulus addon then. personally I really don't want to wait another 5 seasons to get some science ship for the romulan's and then have to buy the dang things from the cstore like I had to with my Klingons
There are some model customization choices. The T'liss only has bird/no bird options, but the Dhelan lets you play with the wing shape (three variants: the original, a single wing that's basically the original's lower wing but thickened, and a double wing design that is similar to the original but without the "hump" before the upper wing meets the hull). I'm pretty sure that at least the Ha'apax, Ha'nom, and Ha'feh will also have customizable models beyond just the C-Store variants (the 'nom and the 'feh also got their default models changed to differentiate them from the Ha'apax's Guardian/Assault sections).
Thank you. Some folks didn't care for the warp nacelle redesign, but I thought it was a good flow from the prior design. Make the ships look a bit more aggressive.
I have other concepts I am working on....my favorites are actually two ships im working on for Romulans at the moment.
Personally I like the LOR designs though they could use more variations to spice things up a bit.
Though I'm really surprised they didn't add the Scimitar which is a bit confusing given it's a movie confirmed ship and they already have a model of it in the game.
Sorry cryptic ship people, I hate to be so negative about your designs, But some of the Cryptic made romulan ships are really Really ugly.
I was a bit taken aback by some of their designs. However, overall, they fit the theme and they are no uglier than many KDF designs. In my personal opinion, I don't think the art team is very good. They certainly don't like smooth curves and flowing designs...lol!
LoL! I don't know if you've ever noticed, but the Cryptic sto artists are always creating in-game effects and designs which bear striking resemblances to human genitalia. I suspect it is some inside joke, or commentary on Trekkers. On a more practical level, though, most games which cater to adolescent males tend to have suggestive elements...World of Tanks is one of the worst in that regard.
No, what? It is what it is. In fact, it seems very much in line with canon, if you consider the early ToS warbird designs. Maybe you're over-reaching a bit here.
A Simple google search would have given you better designs for Romulan ships.
They can't use third party designs for which they have no usage license. Still, I get your point, they could have found better inspiration than you feel they had in-house.
In conclusion, I agree with your basic argument, regarding many of the currently released original designs. However, ultimately, it is the stats and consoles which will matter more than any particular design. Sadly, I think that the poor configurations and stats of Romulan warbirds are more troubling than their aesthetics. With the unreasonable prohibition on the use of allied tier 5 and faction mirror ships, the Republic player is handicapped at end game, until new designs are released. Personally, I would love to see the Romulan Republic vessels get some stat luvin' in a sooner-than-later patch cycle.
I have to say, I was severely disappointed with the Ha'feh/Fleet Ha'Feh in particular.
I mean, it just looks like a...tube...with wings.
It doesn't even look vaguely Romulan at all.
And seriously, there are quite a few designs at this point that are bizarrely phallic - this one joins the ranks of the KDF Vet Ship & The Cat Carrier.
There was a class of ship somewhere in one of the games that I loved, I think it was the "Raptor class" If I'm not mistaken.
It was a D'Deridex without the bottom wing hull portion, just the top wing attached to the nacelles and neck.
I'd love a similar vision of that ship.
My only beef with Romulan ships are, most are HUMONGOUS, get a bunch together in an STF and the maps aren't big enough for em all. Everyone's bumpin into one another.
It's like the the Romulans are compensating for somethin .........;)
I'd like a medium to small compact sized ship that CAN TURN.
Maybe the vet reward ship will be the ticket, (finger's crossed).

Well, the mogwai can turn pretty well.
The problem is not the ship sizes, its the anemic map size and combat distances that is the actual problem.
I'll agree most of them ARE ugly... some of them look like flying junkyards. However the BIGGEST problem is that most of the ships that are coming out are just TOO DAMN BIG!! Sheeeesh.. c'mon guys. I know you're not gonna change the designs but could we at least scale things down a bit? Get in to a Fleet Base Defense with several Mogai's, Hafehs, and those newest "Giant Flying Bat' things and you can't move because of all the ginormous ships milling about. I've died on three occasions simply because I was trapped between 3 or more giants when an enemy ship went *POP*.
Logically advances in computers, technology and nano-tech would lead to SMALLER rather than larger ships. Smaller ship with fewer crew and yet greater capabilities and firepower. I realize you're not gonna go in and redesign everything... would it be possible to just scale 'em down a bit?? So we can at least maneuver?
*STO*Its mission: To destroy strange new worlds, to seek out new life and new civilizations... and then kill them, to boldly annihilate what no one has annihilated before!
Cryptic has a funny way of designing things, most Romulan ships of the later eras were smoother with slight texture, no TRIBBLE sticking out, and had a beak/nose...
Exactly.
I'm totally with the OP on this topic. And the Valdore just looks good because it's based on the Mogai (horrible class name btw.).
All the Cryptic designs have too much green glow. Compare it to the D'Deridex. It has just two green glowing stripes on the nacelles, facing inward.
On the 'new' warbirds thee's green glow and 'engines' all over the place, making them look like flying christmas trees.
Second is the horrible yellow/orange'ish windows that shine brightly over god knows how many kilometers. Looks awful. Fortunately that can be changed.
Third is the already mentioned shapes. No simple shapes, no elegant shapes. Too many edges, too many ... things attached to the ships.
Sometimes, fewer is better. The Cryptic designs are just too pimped up. And that doesn't look Romulan at all.
-edit- @lomax6996:
But but but... but my precious e-peen! I mean, bigger is better, right? I mean at least sometimes. I mean.. you know what I mean. Size matters and all.. I like it big. My ship's name is "BigMcLArgeHuge". That sounds so manly.
Ok, on a more serious note, yes, big ships are currently more the norm than something special. Which is pretty silly, if you ask me.
I don't actually mind most of Cryptic designed Romulan ships, especially as you can change them with other parts.
My current favourite ship design is the Romulan Vet ship.
Been a fan of the canon, screen shown Romulan warbirds, all the way from TOS and into Nemesis. Love in particular the prominence of the D'Deridex and the grace and elegance of the Valdore (or how STO likes to call them, "Mogai").
Not a fan of the made up warbirds for STO. The Veteran ship looks great and retains that falcon-like appearance. The Mogai alternate skin is doable. The T'Varo is a nice, suitable "modern" take of the original Romulan BOP, but IMO, it really needs a phoenix decoration of some sort that the original BOP had.
But the rest? No. Sorry guys, but flying around in giant sex toys with wings is not amusing...
Although I agree the designs could have been much better, I don't think theyre as terrible as some people are making them out to be. Not sure the designs scream "Romulan" but I guess times have changed the Romulan people.

They don't scream "Romulan" at all. They scream: Buy more batteries!

Well, I must agree that the new designs don't resemble the D'D much, but.... they have much in common with the older Romulan designs, so I'm cool with it.
Late addition: I also think most of the ships have no talent in the looks department. I wish I had a T5 Mogai (not bought a refit) or a D'Deridex that didn't make the Odyssey feel like an escort in comparison.
The D is just beautiful, the TNG artists scored a major win with that one. Are Daeinos' bound?
Poor Sarn will probably end up in a Fed ship or the Vette. The Mirror ships are not *as bad* if you get the colors right, but still not quite right.
Also, as said above, freakin' huge.
I *kind of* get what the designers were trying to do, hint at classic designs and make them unique compared to Fed and KDF - it just all went wrong somewhere.

He's full of it... lol
As a matter of fact, I am the inventor of the cube. Yes, the cube. So I demand payment for any Borg, square boxes or other uses of a cube.
Rubix watch out....
Aside from your link not working Mem Beta is right.
I also have the game, you may want to play it some more.

If Cryptic was truly interested in any of my designs (highly doubtful) I would be willing to hand them over naturally.
I seriously doubt however they would simply want to take personal designs like these and add them to the game.

You can choose a single wing design variant in game. I loved the Dhelan, after I banned the double baffle wing.
It's different, but similar. Precisely as it should be. I think they deserve a pass on that one.

Some of those designs are fantastic.
I would absolutely pay for some of those to be alternate skins for several ships we have in game now.
