Well here is something i never knew about. I decided to kill off my fed character and start again (got bored) anyhoo, on doing some of the very early missions I was attacked by a klink NPC, and upon killing him, I saw a strange weapon in his hand....

Is this part of the new Klink content which is making a sneaky debut?

Nope that has been always there. Klingon NPCs can use Mek'leths and d'k tahgs.

Well that is just not fair now is it? So if they have the renders, the actions, and everything else, then why don't they just put them as playable weapons??

They seriously need to make the melee weapons that only the NPCs have avaiable to the player base, things like the Klingon Mek'leth and the d'k tahg knife for example. It wouldn't even be that hard to do as the art already exists.

Same thing goes for some uniform stuff to come to think of it.

I find there to be a distinct lack of Tomahawks in this game and would like to see said oversight corrected with utmost haste.

The issue isn't art, but animation. NPCs behave very differently then PC characters. This is one of the reasons there has never been a General Coat or whatever it is called for KDF players.

Admittedly, I would love some D'k'tahg action in the game. but overall they need to patch up melee combat so it is more viable. I don't want to have to chase down my opponent so I can kill him with a Bat'leth or the Gorn Bite.

an interesting thing on the Gorn bite, Since it is considered an exploit attack, if you time it right with your bat'leth attacks you can vaporize your opponent with it. With is both weird and awesome at the same time.

You can vaporise with a Gorn bite? And rightly so, The Gorn are awesome!

I would love to see some more interaction with the Gorn. If I was a 9ft tall lizard weighing at almost half a ton, I think I wouldnt bother with weapons, I wouls just grab the borg, and pull their limbs off one by one! I would happily buy another character slot if they made the Gorn OP at hand to hand combat, and I mean, bare hands/claws!

Reptilian Strength appears to be missing on the Gorn. This needs to be 'fixed' (?).

Per the Star Trek universe and Orions -

    Enlisted carried daggers.
    Officers carried swords.

I am a big fan of the Melee weapons in STO, especially for my Klink, as he already carries an Energy whip

Hate to break it to you, (assuming someone didn't mention this already) but the whip isn't a melee weapon.
Sometimes I think I play STO just to have something to complain about on the forums.

Borg melee is nanotubes that stick in you and dot you into assimilation....

Oooh that would make an awesome weapon...

That's an idea, give Liberated Borg that equip the Protestics, the ability to do that knockback attack.

Also, the Gunsword on Tribble (The Tholian Reputation Sword) is pretty fun as well. Hits weak, but that gun blast is as powerful as a sniper attack.

This. It does electrical energy damage to your target. It's basically a gun that looks like a melee weapon.

    No.

But I do imagine projectile guns (there are scattered guns like this in Trek) would effectively do melee style damage (physical damage with shield pen) at a range.

I'm still gunning for a baseball weapon set.

Baseball bat melee attacks and the tertiary (rifle butt) attack could be ranged, with a baseball pitch.

Yeah. I realize that's a crazy load of animations, textures, and models.

Maybe with a Holodeck adventure themed rep system though...

Also, if dances are any indication, animations from Neverwinter and Champions should be something that can be ported over.

So Cryptic has a ton of melee animations that could be brought to STO now.

I'm currently levelling a fresh new fed character up, and in doing so, whilst on a low-level mission, I came across Nausican soldiers which had what looked like a scimitar style swords but it was emitting a green energy. I unfortuantely didn't get a screenshot. Does anyone else know what it is?

I would like to see some decent "unarmed" combat, some sort of martial arts..... or some sort of knuckle dusters so I can punch the TRIBBLE out of something...... like a Ferengi.... I want to punch a ferengi and do viable damage while I'm at it.

Nausicaan green scimitar looking thing is: The Nausicaan energy lance ground weapon sencondary effect is it pins you to the ground like Hirogen mines it was originally slated to be in game as a player weapon and is even in the collectors edition artwork book but for some reason it was changed so only the boss npcs use it, play "Treasure trading station" one of the mini bosses uses it. :)

Ah the Nausican Energy Lance. I'll be happy to spend 50 Lobi for this beast! This really needs to go into the game. I googled it and found just one picture of it.

I noticed a few mentioning martial arts. I have never tried hand to hand combat with no weapons, do you actually get any effectiveness there, or is it a pointless part of the game?

I might have to play with my melee tac without weapon and see how she does, this is her Doff setup:

    2 - Purple security doffs for melee + crt/severity
1 - Purple assault Tosk for melee knockback
1 - Blue Biochemist for hypo cd reduction
1 - Floater spot usually for sec team or grenades, but also use to buff bridge officers kits, aka turret fab :D

Yeah, my klink is a tac, so he is very handy with melee. I have to say, if you have one strong melee team mate on STF ground, you can get through the mission really quickly. Having a maniac swinging a weapon, causing knockbacks, you can really confuse the borg enough for the rest of the team to hit them with all the artillery they have. Combinign my melee skills with the thiolian sword means i get knockbacks with every 2-3 hits, sometimes even with just one hit, i can get a knockback and a crit.
