I am a big fan of the Melee weapons in STO, especially for my Klink, as he already carries an Energy whip, and the Tholian sword. However, I do think there should be more melee weapons to use. What Melee weapons would you like to see introduced into the game?
I would love to see the Klingon D'k tahg or "warrior knife" make an appearance!
Also, I have been toying around with having an all-melee Away Team for my missions. Is this a wise thing to do? has anyone tried it before? If so, what weapons did you use, and how successful was it?
The d'k tahg is the glaringly obvious omission in STO right now, but I'd also like to see the Klingon mek'leth and gin'tak spear, the Jem Hadar kar'takin and the Andorian ushaan-tor appear to name a few.
Never tried an all-melee party. Aside from the Borg who just stand there and take it, I've found that many NPCs will try to run away from you so they can keep using ranged weapons if you try to engage hand-to-hand. It's frustrating having to chase them around the map.
Also, you said you're playing a Klink and mentioned Tholian and Ferengi weapons as your preferred choices?! Don't be a petaq! :P

I can't speak to the efficacy of the all-melee party, but a tactical boff with racial traits for melee (Saurian or Klingon) with all lunge and sweeping strike skills and a stout melee weapon plus Physical Augmentation armor is surprisingly effective.
A Gorn wielding a bat'leth is canon? What episode was that in?
Same for the aforementioned Klingon w his energy whip and Tholian sword. Don't Klingons have enough bladed weapons of their own that one wouldn't need to seek out weapons of other races?
If they add more bladed weapons perhaps they should make them race limited/specific.

This, unfortunately. Even on a Klingon I find it is hard to use melee attacks. The game seems more designed around pew pewing from a distance. I would love for melee to be a more viable option though.
"Oh my gods he has a mk XII purple quality Crit Dx3 (Borg) chair"
I admit, I laughed.
Though does a chair really need to be [Borg]. Seemed to me in the series borg didn't adapted to melee attacks so a regular old [CritD x3] or even [CritD x4] should in theory be just as effective without needing the [Borg] modifier.

It's not about need, or even being effective. It's about pure awesome.

Definitely, I'd love to see all these along with some human weapons like a katana and maybe a fencing saber since they fit more or less with some of the current melee animations.
Wow, I never knew just how popular melee actually was, though I still have to hear from someone who has done it. I think what I might do is do a mission level, maybe breen or borg with an all melee away team, and report my findings. Now just a matter of what to kit them out with...
I have recently rolled a Gorn special for melee, with Gorn bite. It is awesome. Anyhow, melee in general is pretty fun. There are several combos and the sword knock down is cool to take down a group. Knock down one then hit the second etc. Defera Temple is nice to practice this method. If I do it well, I kill three drones without getting a scratch.
Oh, and my Gorn is gonna bite every boss in the game
Perhaps it could be featured in a mission during which you work with the Tamarians, earn their respect, and are ceremonially awarded the dagger at the end. Players could have their own "Picard and Dathon at El-Adrel" experience.
Or, it could simply be placed in the C-store. Darmok was a pretty popular TNG episode, and an item related to it could potentially be a good seller.
Thanks for the expansion that had "as much content as the last"
9 Episodes = 30+ episodes...?

It's pronounced "S.T.O." "Stow" sounds idiotic! lol

See, this right here...
In the new KDF tutorial, your character actually uses one of these in a cutscene.
[\END SPOILER]
So, the model for the weapon is definitely available.
What is not, are the proper animations and active abilities associated with it. But they could be. Or so I am hoping...
My views may not represent those of Cryptic Studios or Perfect World Entertainment. You can file a "forums and website" support ticket here Link: How to PM - Twitter @STOMod_Bluegeek

The model has been available since Day 1 of STO. You can see it when you use the D'khtag or whatever emote. The PC holds up the dagger in the air. Yet 3 years on and even after alot of pleas to enable the weapon, here we are still wishing for it.
"Oh my gods he has a mk XII purple quality Crit Dx3 (Borg) chair"
Ohh I want the Gorn big rock thats the best weapon ever but really we do need more melee weps and melee only pvp that would be so much fun hey what about the andorian ice knife

Do you mean the Ushaan-tor (a really oversized knuckle duster)
Well here is something i never knew about. I decided to kill off my fed character and start again (got bored) anyhoo, on doing some of the very early missions I was attacked by a klink NPC, and upon killing him, I saw a strange weapon in his hand....
Is this part of the new Klink content which is making a sneaky debut?

He is a one reptile wrecking crew
My Gorn character currently carries a bat'leth but he would definitely not be against wielding either of these.
well both are canon
Cryptic has said that they don't have the time to create the animations for new melee weapons
that being said, we need to make it worth while for new melee weapon animations
Cryptic make a PvP/PvE Tsunkatse zone where we can only combat with melee weapons
and make Andorian Usshan possible (hand-to-hand combat) (throw in an ice lake too)
this will get more players into melee and create a greater incentive to invest resources into those weapons/animations
Me personally I'd rather have the shoe, it would be nice to have something besides just the sandals!
When it comes to weapons I've always wanted to see the Klingon Mek'leth and the Jem'Hadar Kar'takin Polearm.
sadly thats about it
no axes , maces , clubs , hammers

I'm sure your DPS is great, but as Kahless said, "a petaQ with high system mastery is still a petaQ." (Well, he should have said it...!)
I don't know if it would be particularly Klingon, but it would be kinda cool to dual wield a pair of D'k tahg.

Oh I agree, the mek'leth needs to be introduced. It would look soooo cool on the hip when its holstered...

Grab a borg, pull out an arm or a leg, hit them with it. What assimillation, here is some of your assimillation.
