Lib Borg will never happen, as they would have to compensate LTS.
+Playable Borg ships will be a no-go. Don't want every No-One to be piloting a Borg Tactical Cube.
They don't need to compensate LTS. When you buy anything from Cryptic you do so with the understanding that they can change the system at any time for any reason. Just ask all the players at launch who purchased exclusive boxset items only to find many of them put into the C-Store later.
As far as the Tac Borg Cube, keep in mind that all Faction ships are balanced against each other. So when a Scimitar gets added to the game for the Roms it won't be the AI version - it will be a version on par with an existing Fleet ship. Which is why both Dan and Geko talked about a Scimitar as being a possible C-Store 3-pack. Likewise, any Borg ships will be comparable to existing Fed, KDF, and Rom ships.
Still, as I said above, I doubt Liberated Borg are high on the list. I'd put 10 to 1 odds on Cards being next - if a next does come.
STO is about my Liberated Borg Federation Captain with his Breen 1st Officer, Jem'Hadar Tactical Officer, Liberated Borg Engineering Officer, Android Ops Officer, Photonic Science Officer, Gorn Science Officer, and Reman Medical Officer jumping into their Jem'Hadar Carrier and flying off to do missions for the new Romulan Empire. But for some players allowing a T5 Connie to be used breaks the canon in the game.
I too would love to have a Cardassian faction. As for the conundrum caused by the Cardassian Lock Box, cryptic could give players with it the option to "roll" any character with a Galor to the Cardassian faction.
I started to Play STO when it was released and as a Trekkie I also got a lifetime-account.
My first char was (and is) a cardassian.
Then I left the game for 2 years and returned some months ago.
I was faszinated when I got the Information that Galor-warships are available.
So I organized such a ship for my char and also created a small fleet with some friends of mine.
This fleet is a roleplay fleet - we are not interested in PvE or PvP with hundreds of fleet members
The fleet delivers us a cardassian Background (Cardassian Second Order) and also the possibily to replace the ugly federation crest with our fleet Symbol: The Cardassian crest
Here my Galor as an example:
I would be more than glad, when some time in the future also the Cardassians will get available as a playable faction.
Until this day I would be happy if we, the cardassian STO-users, could at least buy in the Store cardassian uniforms and wepons like ist possible for Bajorans.
Just like the title says, it would be super awesome if we could get a playable Cardassian race, or actually if we could eventually get more playable races in the future. I'm really looking forward to the Romulan expansion.. Anxious for more
So, uh, how is getting a Galor Class Starship gonna work then if Cardassians become a playable faction?

I could see a playable cardassian playable character, like the playable liberated borg, you could buy the character on the c store and have a playable cardassian. I would love to see a cardassian bridge officer introduced.

this question has been asked so many times, every time its failed to get dev attention...
T6 Miranda Hero Ship FTW. Been around since Dec 2010 on STO and bought LTS in Apr 2013 for STO.
I am a very new player (As in.. what.. 2 weeks?) But I can tell you what was the deciding factor to try STO was the Romulan faction. A Cardie faction would make me a lifer, immediately!
I think besides the obvious development time and the writing etc that would be required for any faction- Cardies might be a BIT harder on the art side... simply because of the neck structure. As silly as it may seem the skeleton rig may not be able to handle it?
All that said, I don't see any new player faction getting released for a year or more... unless the devs have been super-sneaky all along.
IMHO - the idea to have Cardies and other factions opening new story arcs is nice.
BUT (apart from the fact that the Romulans arent a full faction yet)
1 - It would launch a new faction every 2 seasons - every 1.5-2 years.
how long is STO to be here? And what are the others supposed to do with their old toons when the new faction launches? Not everybody is keen on starting a new toon.
2 - Romulans should have been here from the start as a full pledged faction. Cardies, Borg,Ferengi and others.. are they big enough?
I would prefer Cardies and perhaps one or 2 more species as "subfactions", all other ones as playable species. Without the initial 10 lvls and all the stuff. Let the devs continue the story..
I wouldn't be against them being a playable species(and was gonna suggest all factions) but it would seem unlikely the Klingons would accept them.......Wait, the Klingons are now allied with Romulans while still having a fake war with the Federation.....I guess I don't know, I was just gonna say I hope they don't try to make them their own thing because they aren't even supposed to have a standing military right now, I think the only logical conclusion would be them being a Federation species like Ferengi.
In all fairness, the Klingons and the Romulans have had alliances in the past, which is why the KDF have Cloaking Devices. We gotta love CBS's retcon canon to always explain their shortsighted mistakes.
As far as a Cardassian alliance Faction, I am certain it will come, but not until late next year. The Expansion Pack coming at the end of this year is not a new Faction, so at best we are looking at late 2015.
It is also not that difficult to understand an alliance approach. The Cardassians are dealing with True Way terrorists and a Mirror Universe opening and possible invasion. You could easily see both the Feds and KDF offering assistance to them just as they did for the Romulans - it even makes more sense for the Cards then it did the Roms.
Also, in before the lock!

I thought WoW's forums had angry elitist snobs, but I never could have imagined the level STO forums has.
