You obviously do not see the issues at all, perhaps this is only obvious for long term pvpers?

The nice thing with WoW or any other more 'serious business' MMO is that there are like 100, if not 1000 times as much PvPers playing there then here. Sure keep going if u want to decrease that 0.5% of the occasional PvPers even more.

Exactly... in large massive games like Wow and GW2 and even Rift and TOR if people are still playing them. There are ranks. Which at least tries to keep the newer players out of the deep end of power creep.

However most of those games have screwed there "ranking" and gear systems up and killed off there own pvp at one point or another.

STO has never had and likely will never have the pvp population to make a ranking system work.

Make no mistake I know that its my sourness that is the crix of my issue. I just am not looking foward to grinding Omega, Tholian reps to get the passives etc, and such makes me stay away since by the time such grinding is accomplished to acquire all that one feels is needed things are changed to no longer be the item/passives one was building upon.

I agree with you Roach 100%.

I have way to many toons... at one time it was easy to keep them all geared and pvp ready.

Now I have like 2-3 serious pvp toons that in fact have rep completed and all the gear maxed out.

The rest of my toons... I can pvp with no issues. However I wouldn't really take them into a serious match cause they would be gimped.

I'm not looking forward to more grinding either.

Actually do not the set and the reputation represent a dumbing down of the game , dissolution into a less evolved state ?

    In ye olde days

One had to decide how to balance the inherent stats on your deflector, consols, shields and engines in harmony to increase your Boff and captain powers .

You might have several of the old time shields for different situations , engines and deflectors too.

There was a myriad of combinations successful people used , different for the requirement of thier class, ship and the intention of their specs and they would change for different situations.

Now nearly all decent players all have 2 piece BORG and Eleet Adapt res shields , OP ship , pay to win and rep systems consols.

I think the game did have more depth in the past.

The summers were warmer then too and you could get a decent cup of coffee in a real cup

Lol, true. I pulled out a bunch of toons I hadn't played in a while for CC, like many people. Nostalgia got the best of me and I took my sci Kar'fi into the queues. No rep, 2 piece borg, green doffs. I gimped through a CnH but ran into drunk, jorf, and other named bosses in an arena. I think drunk's pm after was "nice sh*tbox."

Yeah, I mean a little bit of it was not having been on that toon for a while, and a couple resulting holes in the boff loadout, but a KHG 3 piece or T5 rom clickie would have closed that up. No helping the deficit at the keyboard, but hey. FYI Phase Shift is disabled by TB, not the other way around. Why couldn't placates work like that?

having your movement impaired should absolutely turn off your ability to placate, EWP, GW, TB, TBR, VM, SNB all that should prevent passive placates from going off.

What they don't have to do is keep adding passive boosts through rep grinds.

    .

Actually, they kinda have to. Bear with me here for a moment.

If the weapons and ships give more options with no appreciable power creep (as evidenced in fleet weapons merely getting an extra mod instead of being MK 13, so the average player only perceives it as a tiny boost, as an example) what can they offer to justify to the players the grinds the reps represent? The answer is an always on apparently minor passive. And to the average player the passives ARE minor perks at best. They don't deal in the extremes found in PvP.

"Maybe they could move away from the rep grinds" you say? That's unlikel, we know they like the rep grinds since content is "expensive" and in rep grinds they love to reuse existing stuff... I shudder to think of going back to Nukara, there's a reason why that place is a DEADZONE.

Basically, they need the passives to help justify the whole rep system, they really do. New trinkets that aren't super uber upgrades are not enough for most players. And yes, STO is a lot like a house of cards, layer upon layer tittering on the edge (/cue dramatic music).

You have a valid point... and I understand Cryptic wants to make money. Which means people playing the game every day and grinding of course.

Still I think there are ways to do it with out the OP passive carrot. (ok granted perhaps most aren't op on there own, more of a cumulative effect of them all)

Still I am going to bet that most people level it more to unlock the gear... I hear more people talk about getting my MK XII adapted ect ect. I have even seen people talking in zone chats about borg weapons and stuff. lol

Honestly throw more stuff in the unlock stores on the rep tiers... how about finding ways to make money on old items that they don't sell often on the cstore anymore. Take something like the evening wear costumes or the TOS shuttles... stuff that has mostly been sold through. Put it in the rep store and "resell" it again that way.

I would bet that considering the RP nature of the Trek Player base. (lets be 100% honest we all love trek and even if where PvPers first we get off on the trek rp junk a bit lol) Would level the rep just as fast for more of those types of items. They could even create a few new small crafts that you can unlock at tier 5... if you could unlock for instance an a Borg enhanced shuttle craft, or a Borg enhanced Orion shuttle... or a Romulan shuttle at tier 5. I would bet there would be plenty of people grind it out for that alone.

I have a healer toon that I have not done any rep nor am I using any doffpack doffs and it does just fine. It's probably my favorite toon to pvp on when I'm on a decent team. I just use a XI KHG shield I got before the rep system started and no P2W consoles even though I probably should put plasmonic leach on there. However, I am flying a Recluse, which tends to help me survive with all the HP it has.

I think the rep system is probably more useful for other roles and ships, but I'm not so sure it's necessary for any.

I have an Idea which just might work. Ranked Pvp. all the people with the Reps would be in ranks above the new players at 50, so that new players would not at a disadvantage.

I havnt read all the posts so I dont know if anyones has already said it.

It's been brought up before, unfortunately like many of the suggestions that might work for a game with a larger active PvP playerbase...there's just not the people for something like it. :(
