And it doesn't bother anyone else that the mighty, warlike Klingon Empire and "hoighty-toighty" Federation are reduced to tagging groundhogs for the Romulans?
It bothers me, for certain. This 'war' with the Federation is a joke, it's more like a cold war with skirmishing. I have trouble believing the KDF doesn't have the resources to crush the tattered remnants of the Romulan Empire, or at least annex part of it.
This 'making nice' with Romulans makes me sick. I want no part of it.
My PvP toon is Krov, of The House of Snoo. Beware of my Hegh'ta of doom.
...then I'm game about attacking Earth, western U.S. to be more precise. For that Cryptic would have to pay!
BTW I see what you did there, tancrediiv!
Oh, come on, I've been looking for a way to kill Sela ever since I joined STO. It's my single most hated character in the whole Trek universe.
I know that the Duras are nothing more than treacherous targs and J'mpok being their petaQ pawn, but if they allign the KDF with Sela, this is one warrior that will defect to Starfleet. I'm with anyone that goes after her, hell even the Ferengi if they're up for it! :P
But really, if Sela becomes ally of the KDF it is game over for me on the red side, I'll wake up my Andorian and go blue. I couldn't bare working or cooperating with Sela.
I already bought a ranch and vineyard on Earth in the western US. The petaQs do not even know yet from where I shall strike. The land and the weak minded Earth fools will make Bloodwine for my warriors and wealth for House Korvas! Qapla'!
First Sela will die. The Romulans will be smashed. The Legendary leaders of our glorious raid on Mars will own the fertile lands of Earth. And Shakespeare shall only be spoken in the original Klingon.

Oh, and for the record and to be on topic with this thread, I'm down for blowing apart Romulan ships as a KDF player. And if it ever does come down to the Romulans as a 3rd faction when it comes down to PVP, alot of the Feds are going to howl. Mark my words on that! You think they complain about Klingon cloaks right now? If things are done right, the Romulans will be far worse. It was the Romulans that developed cloaks to begin with, it was the Romulans that traded that technology to the Klingons, and it is the Romulans that kept on developing more and more advanced versions, i.e. the cloak on the Scimitar.
And I also love it that on New Romulus, the "New Romulan Empire" is handing out cutting edge Romulan military technology (Rep Gear) to their longtime rivals, the Federation, and to their longtime, blood enemies, the Klingons. I know they're desperate, but LOL

I'll admit this part has always struck me as incongruous.
Sure I can see Starfleet making nice with the Romulans. It's what they do.
But what does the KDF really get out of it?
The rationale we're given in game is that the Klingons are worried that the Federation and the Romulans will unite. So, to prevent the Federation from getting the inside track on an alliance, the Klingon Empire will also lend a helping hand to the Romulans and generate some goodwill of their own.
Sounds reasonable, sure. But it's not the Klingon Way.
"Convince your enemy to like you??? That's your plan???"
Klingons aren't going to simply ignore the fact that they have been on the wrong end of Romulan treachery before, and Klingons are definitely more than capable of holding a grudge. They are, however, also capable of being "sneaky" about being adversarial.
I would expect every interaction with the Romulans to at least allude to the ideas that:
1. The Klingon is always looking for the poison dagger behind the Romulan's back.
2. The Klingon is always looking for a sign of weakness to be exploited.

Considering we KDF faction players know from the PT2409 we where at odds with the remnants of the RSE and the federation because of raids to reclaim old systems, I had hoped for a tie under that same storyline.
It would work with the Sto backstory and be a different way of playing.

Yeah, doesn't make much sense, does it?
I thought that it would be far better for the KDF, the Federation - Klingon war as well as the game as a whole if with Season 7 the KDF got the mission to conquer and destroy New Romulus while the Federation would help building and defending it. The potential to make S7 more fun and engaging for both factions was right there the whole time.
Ah, I guess we can only hope that they learn on their mistakes and improve in the future.

Relations between the Klingons and Romulans has historically been an on-and-off type of affair for hundreds of years. If I understand the early history (TOS) well enough, Romulans and Klingons had some sort of a alliance.
Now...let's look at the New Generation episode where the Enterprise C ends up in the Future and Tasha Yar goes back in time on it ("Yesterday's Enterprise"). In this episode, the Klingons are at war against the Federation, and the Federation was losing -- badly. Yet...because the Federation meddles with time, the Enterprise C goes back in time and fights at Narendra III, and Tasha Yar gets captured....
Now...switching gears and looking at STO. We have a severely weakened Romulan race -- their empire is for all intents and purposes shattered and in disarray. Sela is the child of Tasha Yar, correct?
What if...the Romulans look at the problems associated with their own government and Empress Sela, and determine that Empress Sela's existence is in fact the ultimate betrayal of Federation meddling in their culture and government? if you look at everything Sela has done within the future history of Star Trek - to both the Federation and Klingons, and the disasters to the Romulan Empire that resulted...the truth is that if the Federation had NOT interfered at Narendra III, then there would have never been a Sela -- and in fact even if it meant war with the Federation as a result, the Romulan Empire would have been strong, united, and powerful in that other alternative history -- perhaps not a shattered wreck, even with the destruction of their homeworld...which ALSO can likely be laid at the feet of the Federation as well (according to the new Star Trek movie, didn't the Federation Council deny Romulas aid...and wasn't Ambassador Spock acting on his own initiative to save the planet from the supernova, which he failed to do???)! This lays the foundation for an anti-Federation movement to pick up steam in what remains of the Romulan Empire...
In terms of honor -- the old-style Romulans (Balance of Terror, TOS) were much closer philosophically to the Klingon concept of warfare than that of the Federation.
What if...the future of STO holds a Romulan-Klingon alliance? Not a third faction, instead, the KDF "faction" becomes a hybrid faction of two equal parts, both opposing the Federation. The Romulans would not be a subject race of the empire...but a co-equal partner in the war against the Federation.
Like I said, just speculation..but it would solve a LOT of the problems with the KDF faction currently. The KDF faction would get a significant influx of new players, content would progress along dual paths -- Klingon and Romulan -- the Romulan ships, which can cloak and which are therefor easily integrated into Klingon fleet tactics, can fill gaps in the KDF lineup.
It would also be the ultimate of situational irony -- most of the excitement and calls for a Romulan faction are on the Fed side, not the KDF side...wouldn't it be ironic if those same Fed players, who really, really, dislike the KDF yet love the idea of a Romulan charactor, would have to join the KDF in order to satisfy that longing?
Once again, just speculation...but fun to consider all the same...
Considering we KDF faction players know from the PT2409 we where at odds with the remnants of the RSE and the federation because of raids to reclaim old systems, I had hoped for a tie under that same storyline.
It would work with the Sto backstory and be a different way of playing.

At least in part I didn't actually understand that particular part of The Path to 2409.
2382: "The Klingon Empire takes advantage of the weak position of the Romulans to stage lightning strikes into Romulan space, retaking Khitomer
and the sector surrounding it. The Federation Council criticizes the move, but Ambassador K?mtok responds that the empire is simply
reclaiming territory that belonged to the Klingons by right."
UMMM...based on what we know from TNG, the ROmulans never conquered Khitomer.
They went in, blew s**t up and left.
Otherwise it makes no sense that the Romulans would allow a Starfleet ship to approach Khitomer and conduct a search for survivors IN THE MIDDLE OF AN OCCUPATION.
It is that fool of a chancellor on Qo'nos that sends it's warriors to do a diplomat's job! I just do not understand him. He invades my home world, alienates a staunch ally, and then turns around and plays niceties with the Romulan dissidents. I, General Slaas, know the real value on New Romulus. Let the Federation have the Romulans. We do not need their treachery in our ranks. Our goal is the Remans. They are true warriors. They excelled in the Dominion War where the Romulans failed. They built a warship is secrecy that single-handedly defeated the Romulan Navy* and claimed control of the Empire. They are the true prize of our mission there.
J'mpok's recent decisions is the reason that we Gorn will once again rise up and reclaim our ancestral territories from both the Federation and Klingon Empire!!

+100 for this^^^^^^^
Well, for my Gorn self anyway.
My Klingon self disagrees. Partially. My Orion self just wants the loot, slaves, and decadence.
The Romulans problems come from their xenophobic treatment of the Remans. If they had stabbed each other and their subjects in the back less Sela would never have had influence.

Hmmmmm.....
Honor Guard armor.....checked!
Ceremonial Bat'leth.....checked!
War Targ pet pup.....checked!
Honor Guard pulsewave rifle.....checked!
15 scantly-clad Orion slave-girl entertainers.....checked!
30 cases of vintage bloodwine.....checked!
5 cases of ketracell white for the Jem'Hadar Boff.....checked!
..... Battlecruiser operational!
Prep yourselves up, fellow warriors. The 'Romulan Hunting Season' starts as of May 21!
Much honor and glory awaits!
If they can get territorial PvP working and somehow figure out how to get some parity towards faction population balance, a Romulan faction would be fantastic.
None of that will happen however, so it's going to be a disaster for an already struggling Klingon faction that will both lose pilots to the Romulan faction, and be completely ignored by developers who will focus on the new faction and the federation. We'll have 1 full faction and 2 half-assed ones, 1 of which will be completely relegated to obscurity.
So, will be sending our Romulan jeghpu'wl' to die on the Federation front against their own kin for the Empire?
Suits them well, those despicable petaQ!

Not to self-promote (quote is from a post in this thread I put in a while ago)...but this is looking more and more like a possibility given recent news regarding the Romulan "faction".
It certainly looks like we will be given the opportunity to blow apart those weak Romulans who join the Federation...but in turn, we will likely get the Romulans who follow the way of Empire and Warrior philosophy to partner with our side.
Earlier in this thread people talked about a Dominon and Cardassian faction. Both are a waste. The True Way is the future, I want a True Way faction that way there are multiple species, both Jem'Hadar and Cardassian plus others could be added former allies of the Cardassians.
Storyline could be the Empire finally puts down the True Way thread and conquers Cardassia. The True Way survivors turn from traitors and terrorists to savors and freedom fighters fighting the Klingon Oppression.
OR
The Federation convinces Cardassia to join the Federation, with the loss of their identity many Cardassians start to flood to the True Way, boosting their numbers. The True Way with many smaller allies set themselves up as their own state, ally with the Klingons and wage war on the Federation in the hopes of liberating their homeworld.

Well said my friend!
Support the Game by Supporting the KDF, equality and uniqueness for all factions!
Its more likely that Cardassia would join the Federation than the Empire enslaving them. The True Way seem to be smart enough to know to not poke the dragon in the eye so to speak and appear to leave the KDF well enough alone.

I would happen to agree with you. Skirmish is the only mission and it's a cut and paste Fed mission to begin with. I so hope the FE's get axed from the KDF line up and their rewards given to other new KDF missions. I always try and skip the FE missions on the KDF side, a load of rubbish for us warriors of the Empire.

Aye, I can already see the Cardassian faction implemented in the same way as the Romulan one with one notable difference - they'll be allies of the Federation as far as the story in STO goes.
Or it could become a mini faction-subfaction of the Fed. Or just playable Cardassians for Feds., since they are already kinda' allied and working together.
Although I'd personally want to have the Cardassians as a faction, not playable species even if it means the faction to be released in a similar manner of the Romulan Republic.
As long as Natima Lang is in charge and I get my orders from Garak - I'm fine with it.
Ok, so I have a question for the other KDF players. I'm looking into getting a new fleet ship. As I stated my case in this thread, with the comming of LoR, her main goal would be fighting the Romulans, well the ones allied to the Federation at least. And I kind of expect the Rommies to be a bit more menacing in places like Ker'rat for ex., while the majority of the casual Feds. will probably be more interested in the Borg and farming. Take into consideration that I'd want to use this ship for PvE as well.
So, at the moment I'm torn between the Ning'tao (Fleet Norgh) and the Tor'kaht.
I'm mostly a cruiser captain and although I haven't used the Tor'kaht so far, I know an excellent cruiser when I see one. I'm curious to how would it preform in a situation when every Romulan vessel can battlecloak and use the hit & run tactics while I'd have to wait to disengage red alert? Any insights from anyone or even someone playing at Tribble atm?
However, I'd assume that the Ning'tao would have some advantages with the battlecloak when it comes to PvP, especially with Romulans using their own BC. Also, it carries the last remains of KDF uniqueness - all uni. Boff stations with the bonus Lt.Comm that this BoP has, and better turn rate than any opposing ship, and that is kinda' appealing. How do some of you think that it'd preform in PvE though? Would it be sufficient? I haven't really used BoPs in PvE, so I'm not experienced in that field.
At the end, after all stated here, what would you recomend of these two for the purpose I presented, the Ning'tao or the Tor'kaht? Any advince and insights will be much appreciated!
P.S. Essentialy, I could get the two ships, but I kinda' like using and settling down in one particular ship and get attached to it, I'm silly that way.

I guess a sensor & stealth focused B'rel torpedo build will one-hit wanna be Romulans while stealth. Could be funny. However, quite bad in PvE.

A non-torpedo boat BOP works fairly well in most PvE. I have used them before without much issue. You generally able to kill them faster than they can kill you. The only exception might be the STF's I have never taken a BOP into them, but the Battlecloak, provided you don't get hit with a Borg plasma when cloaking might work alright. Might be best to try it out on another established character first with one of the free BOP's (provided you haven't claimed a General ship token yet).

Yeah, I already have a B'rel and it's much fun in PvP, but that's on another char. It's not that viable in PvE and for this char I was talking about I was looking for a ship that can work for both, cause I'd like to participate in all aspects without having to respec 1000 times. :P

I like cruisers, therefore so far I haven't really tried STFs with BoP, I went through them with humongous battleships like the Bortasqu' and Negh'var and also found out that the Mirror Qin is quite amazing in PvE and her performance is actually quite nice in PvP as well.
Anyway, I'll take your idea. I have a Hegh'ta on the char. I'm talikg about and I'll take her for a spin to see how it goes. After all, if it goes well, the Ning'tao can only be an improvement to that.
The Hegh'ta is still a mighty ship, I still fly one and I can still compete with the newer fleet ships PvE and PvP wise. BoPs are the most versatile ship in game in the hands of a experienced captain

J'mpok's recent decisions is the reason that we Gorn will once again rise up and reclaim our ancestral territories from both the Federation and Klingon Empire!!
*I know the Remans had the backing of the Romulan Fleet but, I am playing in character.

Prep yourselves up, fellow warriors. The 'Romulan Hunting Season' starts as of May 21!
Much honor and glory awaits!
Long live the Empire! Qapla'!
Suits them well, those despicable petaQ!
Heh, I'm thinking about how useful my little green guy in his Mogai is gonna be to my KDF fleet with all that gear.
...well minus the bloodwine and orion girls of course.

Now shaddup about the queues, it's a BUG
Not to self-promote (quote is from a post in this thread I put in a while ago)...but this is looking more and more like a possibility given recent news regarding the Romulan "faction".
It certainly looks like we will be given the opportunity to blow apart those weak Romulans who join the Federation...but in turn, we will likely get the Romulans who follow the way of Empire and Warrior philosophy to partner with our side.
After all, if it goes well, the Ning'tao can only be an improvement to that.
heavy BoP. favorite ship in the game
