T5 allied ships should be usable by Romulans

roboticzebraroboticzebra Member Posts: 39 Arc User
As I have been playing through LoR I have been hearing that you will only be able to use T1 through to T4 allied ships. I feel its awesome to be able to fly allied ships but if we can use them shouldn't we be able to use their T5 ships as well? This is quite a bummer because if I was going to ally with FED I would like to use the many C-store ships I BOUGHT. I am wondering what other people are thinking, because after listening to priority ones interview of dstalh he said that not using a Romulan ship would make you feel that your givcinv some of your fire power away, I am more than happy to sacrifice a little fire power for my trust armitage or dreadnought.

What are you guys thoughts?

Personally idk havent had the chance to fly a D'Deridex yet since thats locked

Personally though if the D'deridex is as good as a galaxy dreadnaught like i have on holodeck you will never pull me out of it lol

But until i get to fly the D'deridex i can only speculate and hope so until then i cannot give more then an opinon based on bias since i like rommies :)

Why would an ally give access to their best ships? That type of trust takes a long time to develop.

    I disagree.

I would prefer the Romulans not have access to allied T5 ships. That would be a step in the wrong direction in my opinion.

Putting aside the whole, 'we'll just see tons of Romulans in lockbox ships anyways' thing for the moment...

I'm glad that they aren't. Tier 1 to 4 is like buying old army surplus. It's old and the government doesn't need it anymore. The Federation/Klingon Empire can afford to trade off these old ships because they aren't necessary for their own defense.

Heck, one could argue that some of these ships are too much from a story POV due to the still relatively new technology given in most of these ships, like the Intrepid-refit, which gives the Nadeon Detonator.

Anywho, tier 1 to 4 is their choice though. And I feel it is a good choice, because all those lower tiered ships you bought for you Feds and/or KDF toons, will now have more usage and greater purpose across your new Romulan toons.

It's not like they are taking away your tier 5 ships. I can still gladly go hop on a Klingon and fly around in a B'rel. I just won't be able to fly that B'rel as a Romulan. So at the tier 5 level, again, ignoring lockbox ships for the moment, you'll still mostly see Romulan, Fed, and KDF ships.

It feels like a fair exchange. Romulans get usage of lower tier ships, and in turn, we get an actual variety of ships at tier 5 instead of only seeing new Romulans in the same thing we see already.
I remain empathetic to the concerns of my community, but do me a favor and lay off the god damn name calling and petty remarks. It will get you nowhere.
I must admit, respect points to Trendy for laying down the law like that.

I have to disagree with that proposal as well.

The Romulan faction as it currently stands is more diluted that was expected anything more and you may as well not bother with this faction.

Besides Dev blog #9 basically says the the Romulans can fly EVERY ONE of their ships at T5, for a cost in zen.

I don't know about you but getting to level 50 just to fly my ally ship that I fly on my faction toon already seems a wasted opportunity to try something new, Something I have waited for three years.

This was the only faction I wanted to play.

I see the point in not offering the allies best ships for a story POV but still if your offering them from T1-4 there should be a way of earning a T5 ship in some way, be it for the doff diplomatic max rank reward.

    No. Just no.

If you want to fly T5 Fed or KDF ships, roll a Fed or KDF toon.

    Don't like it? Don't play a Romulan.

    What the others have said.

Giving the romulans access to T5 ships of the other factions is bad. This would simply go to further destruction of faction uniqueness that has slowly been going on. The lower tiers is something that I can begrudingly accept because that gives them console access and more options. (Though that would need to get Nuked if cryptik decides that you can change your allegiance)

It is also possible to explain why this happens more or less decently.

I see both sides, and long term, access to T5 would be better.

right now there wont be many endgame romulan ships. later, there will be some more. but as the buzz settles down, people will go back to their feds, which will get the better ships again, and the romulans will end up like the klinks, with not many ships, and not much support (it will take some time, but it has a high chance of happening).

however if the romulans had access to T5 faction ships, they would just simply the best choice of all, so that would not make much sense either (but atleast they would prevail :))

I'd be in favor of Romulans (and other future factions) getting Tier 5 allied ships but not ships that one has to be at the current level cap to use.

So, at the moment, they'd be cut off from Vice Admiral ships, but have access to Rear Admiral ships. If the level cap goes up, they'd get access to Vice Admiral stuff but not have access to Fleet Admiral stuff.

Just no... if you want to fly a T5 ship of another group, then just make a character of that group. As others have said, no government is going to sell their absolute best stuff to another government that has a history of hatred against your government.

On game mechanics, if Romulans had access to the T5s of their allied faction, then if they didn't give them access to Romulan Warbirds, the forums would be worse with hatred then it already is

The answer to this is No? The whole thing about your alliance is that, the other faction get a piece of Romulan tech not the other way around. And since Fed or KDF can't fly any Republic ships why should be allow to theirs. I think it's was even a mistake to allow Romulans players to fly the early tier ships of their ally.

The next thing you people will be asking you want to be able to create the other faction Species too. You want Fed or KDF ships, go play that faction it's that simple.

Think the community reaction to this idea is pretty much this.

As it currently stands Romulans pretty much dominate Tier 1 and Tier 2, there is no real incentive to use another factions ships. Why should Romulans be able to get everything? Then why bother playing another race?

Absolutely not. I have other alts that can fly the tier 5 TRIBBLE. When I'm on my rommie I'm flying a warbird and I don't want to even have the temptation to fly a Brel or a Garumba. Cryptic is going to make money hand over fist with the c-store rom ships so there will be more. As for the klingons, one of the Klinks problems was that their free ships were so damn good that the C-store ships were pretty much a downgrade.

And the rommies dominate tier 1 and 2? In what universe does that even make sense?

What does "dominate tier 1 and 2" even mean?

Do people do a pile of ultra-low-level PvP in this game? At Tier 1, Romulans don't have an allied ship to use... it's just the TOS Bird of Prey, which is a pile of fun, but, from what I've seen, is pretty well balanced with the B'rel. If balance between player ships meant anything at Tier 1, which it doesn't.

Nor does it at Tier 2, really. The ships at that level just need to be fun and worth playing on their own, which pretty much all of them are.

Yeah, the only reason to be crying about tier 1 and 2 ships is neighborhood jealousy. Who cares really

Yes they do. You'll be heavily surprised. The Romulan Warbird as it stands makes the Klingon Raptor and Federation Escort a bit redundant.

Should quickly add, lower level pvp is becoming quite popular because of the way 50 pvp is. TOS Bird of Prey starts with plasma weaponry which is a much greater pain at lt than at ltcmdr.

Please, no. At least with this not in place, I have a CHANCE of telling which player is Romulan or something else.

No T5 allied ships for romulans - i'm fine with that.

but - why lower tier ships? No, really .. why?

    As some smart people said:
If you want to fly a fed/kdf ship, play a fed/kdf char - or
not using a romulan ship would make you feel that your giving some of your fire power away

And if romulans are an own faction - such "tricks" shouldn't be necessary. And if it does - why can't fed/kdf buy lower tier romulan ships?

it is probably because romulans will not have that many low level ships.

tho having no t5 ships for romulans, I feel having t4 is just a marketing thing, that they can say, "hey get our new faction stuffz, they haz the federation and kdf shipz too - only t4 and below, but that we wont really say many times, so you might just start and lvl a new char, and realize this only at lvl 50"

I'm completely fine with not being able to fly either FED or KDF T5 ships with my Romulan captains.
It's supposed to represent how, despite receiving aide from either of those two governments, it shows how they're not quite ready to part with their top-of-the-line starship technology.
Again, completely fine with not having access to T5 FED or KDF ships. I'll be more than happy with my D'deridex and Advanced Warbirds.

    Infact

I would say let them have t1 t2 and t3 standard issue ships
and only the t1 and t2 c store

personally I'll be flying reliable Romulan hardware

Eh, I've bought a metric TRIBBLE ton of C-Store ships and have no desire to use them on my Romulan character. I use them on the characters I bought them for. Heck there are a lot of ships I've bought that I don't even use on the character I bought them for anymore because I found something I liked more.

No respectable romulain would fly a fed ship. Because it dosent have a cloaking device. With no cloak you lose a lot from the race trait that bounse from dropping out of cloak is great the only none romulain ships worth flying as a fed is the dreadnaught and the defiant. Now you can use any klingon ship with a cloak and have no issues so why join the fed's

I'm OK with it. Since so many ships can be retrofitted to T5 standards these days, it follows that anything below T5 is technologically obsolete (as opposed to just plain being inferior); so this is like a government selling off or donating old surplus, but keeping their modernized ships out of the hands of third parties to protect their military secrets.

    Makes perfect sense to me.

i don't know? it was my understanding (when thay first announced mixed faction ships) that the only ships thay could do this with were the fleet ships from the faction fleet thay joined, and why not thay helped unlock them for every one why not be able to fly them.

now that's out the way my next point is in the end many people are forgetting that the Rom's don't have many ships, at most with out all the refits thay have 5 ships including the one you start with. this alone bugs me more than being able to fly Fed or KDF.

i would happily say "no" if the Roms had a full complement of ships to chose and keep things leveled, unless cryptic are holding some of there ships back from the bate testing, this will simply not be the case there for if you do take the Fed/KDF ships away all you are left with is one Tear line of ship, the "war bird". no escorts, no cruisers, no sci ships and no carrier type ships cloaking or no, i don't like my odds of fighting a carrier supported by escorts, cruisers and SCI ships. the Roms will be to out matched with out the over faction ships, less thay get some of there own even if over time the other factions ships are replaced with new Rom ships.
