all I am sayin is this can we (feds) please for the love of all that is holy (or unholy) get a carrier that is FED-CENTRIC that look liks a fed ship please and not what we have now one looks like a ........uhhhh body appendage and the other is a flying pizza slice (looks at dom dreadnaught) so friends what do you want it to look like what should it look like if you have drwing and or links please share em and before I go I don't even know what to say about the Jupiter .....please discuss
No. Feds have enough carriers as it is between the Atrox, Armitage, and Vesta.
Or at least not until the KDF gets another carrier or two. They really could use an Armitage analogue, for starters, and/or a true Orion carrier with an Eng focus could be nifty.
I don't mind the Federation having carriers, I just think the KDF should get the better selection since it was kind of their thing to start with.
I could get behind this - something more engineering focused than the Atrox and the Vo'quv, say with Eng. Cmdr. and Lt. and Tac and Sci LCdr. BOff setup. Still 3&3 weapons, still a nice tough hull, massive crew complement, turns like a pig that's drowning in quicksand.
Just please for Christ's sweet sake don't make it the Jupiter-class.
...Oh, baby, you know, I've really got to leave you / Oh, I can hear it callin 'me / I said don't you hear it callin' me the way it used to do?...

The Atrox works fine, plus we have the Armitage and Vesta. I mean I'd certainly love a Kar'fi counterpart but thats more 'would be fun' than a priority balance thing. However, I think a frigate pet similar to the BoP or Fer'jai would be a much more useful addition, since otherwise the only particularly good pet Fed-side is the Runabout. Heck if anything I imagine some KDF players would like if the Feds had some good choices besides Runabouts available, just so they'd stop with the tractors for a change.
like we (Feds) need more carries....did you SEE how dangerous the new pets are...... especially the yellowstone runabouts. good god...those are frigates in and of themselves.
I find this line of replies sadly hilarious. We put a lot of work into the massive list of fixes/changes above, and ya'll are hung up on the ability to skip our content. =p
I don't see more Carriers being introduced, but I could see more ships that have 1 hangar like the Armitage and Vesta introduced. There should never be a Starfleet Carrier.

KDF has three Voq'uvs to choose from, three endgame Orion ships, and the Kar'fi. I'd call that a pretty good selection. All were missing is as you mentioned an Armitage analogue (and I know the Jem HEC doesn't count) but then the Feds don't have anything like the Orion ships or the Kar'fi.

Then where'd all those fighters come from in the DS9 episode "Sacrifice of Angels"?
Starfleet used carriers in the Dominion War. They should have them in 2409 too.

Of course not. That's an Eng-heavy flight deck vessel. It neither has two hangars (true carrier), nor is it Tac-oriented (Armitage), thereby meeting neither of my stated criteria.

those fighters are warp capable. they dont need a big ship to tote them around.
so unless theres some DS9 footage during the dominion war actually showing a ship LAUNCHING said fighters, i believe they got to that battle all on their own.
I for one would rather there were frigates brought out than any new carriers, perhaps a defiant frigate with quad cannons, photon torp and CRF1, adv version gets CRF2 and dual cannons, elite version gets CRF3 and THY1/2
Would probably be on par with the BoP pets tbh but would look so pretty if they were with the Sao Paulo skin
Also Cynder2012 I loved seeing that message about carriers being graveyards with warp engines, nothing said in that thread was more appropriate =D
I mean its awesome, its not cannon, its never flown by anyone in our universe, and carries massive armarment and fits the theme of fly what you want lol
Again, as per my last post, what makes the Akira not look like a Starfleet ship?
I think the issue they're having, reyan, is that the Armitage and Vesta are both hybrid ships with only one hangar, rather than a full carrier with two. They're an escort and science ship, respectively, with a launch bay, rather than a full-on carrier class like the Atrox, Recluse, or Dreadnought. All of the latter are very not-Starfleet designs. The KDF does have a Klingon-ish carrier in the Vo'quv, for comparison; the Fed doesn't yet have a saucer-hull-pylons carrier.
That's it! The T5 Connie should be the new Fed Carrier!

Ships of that size are absolutely not capable of achieving the higher warp velocities you need in a quick response force. As such, if you want your fighters to actually get anywhere in a reasonable amount of time, they need something to carry them.
Not to mention the completely idiotic notion that pilots would stay cooped up in a cramped cockpit with zero amenities for days at a time, or that they would operate without a nearby hangar for repair, resupply and rearming.

Kindly explain to me how a ship (the Peregrine class fighters) with a top speed of roundabout Warp 5 managed to keep pace with a fleet hauling TRIBBLE (slowest cruising speed of the ships depicted in SoA was Warp 8 I believe) to get somewhere if they weren't carrier-based?

They did it in Runabouts in DS9 all the time.

The fighters were always shown in formation with the bigger ships, no matter at which point in their operations.
So the fighters obviously don't need any carriers to operate.
How about hitching a ride in the warpfield of a bigger ship?
Cluster the fighters around the warp engines of large ships like the Galaxies.
The Peregrine's own engines could be used on a low power setting to smooth out any possible problems that might arise, a bit like the sustainer engine of a Photon Torpedo.
Interior volume between a Danube and a Peregrine is radically different. You can't even stand up inside a Peregrine.
We've only seen the cockpit.
There's obviously a whole lot more room in the back, just like in a shuttlecraft.
Remember, those were originally couriers.
If anything, give most federation ships one hangar slot with fused standard shuttle craft. That way no standard federation ship can use really good ships like the Scorpions, but at least they have the hanger they are supposed to have. Or does the fact that every Canon Star Trek ship had a hanger bay in the (aft) section of the ship doesn't count?

Considering you never see the fleet enter or leave warp, you're making a huge assumption there, especially with the fact that known Federation carriers were in the battle group.

Not going to say that's impossible, but again with known carriers in the fleet, highly unlikely.

A cockpit with zero room behind the operators, nor any indication of a doorway either. If memory serves, there was a systems display panel behind the bench (don't ask me how it was supposed to be used though).
Additionally, no mention from any source that I'm aware of (be it onscreen, in a TM, novel, comic, wall painting or anything else) supports the idea that a Peregrine has more in its interior than what was shown in The Maquis.
Finally, Fed-Ex and UPS are couriers. They don't have bathrooms and sleeping compartments in their delivery trucks. Not entirely applicable, but I'm going to put it out there nonetheless.

That's only because the Peregrines don't have the extradimensional space that a Runabout cabin has. The interior is bigger than the exterior in every camera shot I've ever seen.

I guess the TARDIS builders weren't Maquis sympathizers.
That being said, and despite DS9s love of scaling discrepancies, the Danube does come reasonably close to fitting into the dimensions it's supposed to have.

SU-34 wasn't a carrier based ship. Also, the Peregrine isn't an SU-34.

I didn't think I would need to claify what "full carrier" means, but it doesn't mean an escort with a hangar.
It would still have only a Lieutenant tactical slot and no frigate option. I do not like or want the Atrox.
