What is the Arc Client?

repeated crashes on Texture_Library/Costumes/...

I filed a bug report for this, but no response so far, thought I'd see if anyone in the forums has seen similar behaviour:

I played through the tutorial mission, got to the Admiral's office for the first time, and then the game crashes. Now I can log in (after doing a full verify of all files), and it'll play for between 1 and 30s before crashing again, with the exact same error message every time:

Error decompressing data. Verifying Files in the launcher may fix this issue.:
Texture_Library/Costumes/Avatars/Armor/M_Chest_Armor_Phys_01_Nx.Wtex

Note this started happening right before the most recent patch, so I've applied the latest patch and verified all the install files multiple times. Still crashes. As well, once its crashed, the Cryptic Error Reporter starts up, but it just hangs, and never reports the error or creates a ticket. It just hangs with the following:

Initializing...
Attaching to crashed process...
Harvesting data from crashed process...
Mode: Customer
Gathering Data Validation Info...

I'm on Win7 x64, latest stable NVidia drivers, memtest runs successfully, and no other app experiences constant crashes like this, so I'm fairly certain it's nothing in my environment causing this problem. I thought I could just delete the offending file and force it to redownload, but I see all the game files are packed into weird archives, so I can't do that.

Anyone have any ideas?

Have you tried using the 'Verify' option in the Launcher Menu??? It sounds like you may have a corrupt file... Also keep in mind that some Anti-Virus packages have been known to corrupt downloads... And have you checked how much 'free' space you have on the disk drive???

Yep, I've run a full verify multiple times. I'm using Microsoft's Security Essentials (which I assume are supported) and the drive has 32GB free.

you have to delete the whole texture hogg file in question. now some antivirus programs will corrupt the hogg files on downloads like panda2011 and some have stated problems with microsoft security essentials.

also you will have repeated problems if the game is installed in the program files folder on vista and win7.

I just had this issue. Tried to force verify and it hung. Then I went to the STo files to delete the .hoggs and it told me they were in use by the game client (which was off) and lo and behold the game client was still running when I went into task manager. I had to manually shut it down. So apparently perhaps this issue is linked with the one where the game client does not really shut down.

It installed to a location under Users for some crazy reason, I guess to work around this astounding bug you've just mentioned.

I've just tried deleting the whole texture.hogg, and it's redownloading the first texture hogg right now. Doesn't seem to be any way to determine which hogg this file is in, unfortunately, so I'll just have to try them one at a time.

If this actually works, my next question logically would be: what is the point of the verification process if it doesn't even work to detect corrupt files? :(

It appears to have been in the first texture.hogg, game appears to be working now.

One hopes that this will lead to fixing the in-game verifier to actually fix these types of problems.

I spoke too soon. Game let me play for a full 5m before crashing with the same error.

Honestly, it's not worth my time. Thanks for the suggestions guys, but this buggy mess is getting uninstalled.

I am having the same issue with:

    Texture_Library/Costumes/Avatars/M_Uniform_G0_02_N.Wtex:

I'll try deleting the hogg files in order. If your client is still running in the background try forcing it to close in Task Manager.

I am getting similar problems, always seems to happen when visiting DS9, although I rarely go back to Earth Space Dock.

Basically game crashes with fatal error, however Gameclient.exe and gameoverlayui.exe are still running and I have to force end their task. I have tried force verify to no extent and the only way I have fixed this in the past is to reinstall STO from steam and then reload the patch. However this time I have just done this and I managed to load DS9, then it crashed on loading when I beamed to ship, stating it was the texture for my ship at fault here.

    TECHNICAL: Texture_library/costumes/ships/fed/galaxyclass/type6/ship_fed_galaxyclass_typhoon_type6_nx.wtex:

Seriously not downloading another 4.4 GB + 800MB Patch each time, perhaps a dev could come off the Romulan thing to help me out?

Please note this only seems to have happened on my main character so far, I still can load others from what it seems...

Otherwise it will be a loss for the Federation as I WILL be deleted and any recommendations from me will be to NOT play STO.... Don't make me be Nasty

    Many Thanks

As a ghetto fix, do a fresh download of all three texture files. Then copy the files and move them to a different folder somewhere. Whenever the texture files get corrupted just copy and paste those versions back into the game folder and overwrite the corrupted files. Takes about 45 seconds.
