As with anything we can sometimes get in a hurry as such was the case with the Gates of Sto'vo'kor Klingon Fleet.
A fleet member Soriedem had donated the already created fleet so as a way for us to get started. It was not realized until after the fact during the late part of week end we had created a conflict with a Podcast group with a similar name which wanted to remain neutral in matters relating to Star Trek Online.
As Fleet Leader, I called an emergency get together and our fleet members after some fun and outright funny discussions on our vent server have chosen a new name.
The Caspian Division's Klingon Fleet is now named Caspian Honour Guard.
Again I want to thank the community again for the continued support all have shown and none of which will be forgotten.
My profound apologies to the Podcast Group Gates of Sto'vo'kor.
I would like to echo the other members of Caspian in once again thanking all of you who have in some form or another reached out to us in support. You have all demonstrated awesome acts of compassion and kindness.
some of us over in 12th may be able to help out if needed
its horrible when all that time and effort goes to waste just because of one person with a bad attitude
This is what Star Trek is all about. Communities coming together to help those in need. Sure, what happened could have been prevented. Sure, others can, and will, learn from this experience. But, I believe, from what I've seen, this experience has brought the Caspian Group together, in a way that nothing else could.
They are Stronger. They are closer as an organization, they are now, truly, Family. This, deep down, is what The Great Bird of the Galaxy saw, when he envisioned the future. People from all walks of life, coming together, to build One Community. And, I am humbled to be part of that community.
To all the members of Caspian Group, I, as Fleet Leader of The Armada, wish to extend our condolences on the loss of all that you had, but more importantly, I wish to extend my deepest gratitude that you did not let this minor setback defeat you. You, everyone of you, CHOSE to push on. You CHOSE to pick up the pieces, and rebuild.
I Salute You.
May you become a shining example to all other fleets in this game, and others out there that share this universe with us. A Beacon for all of us to look toward.

I barely post on these forums. STO is my first video game since Street fighter 2. I've been playing for just under a year now and Caspian has been my home since day one. When I came home from work and heard what had happened I was furious but when I saw the support and kindness people have shown us I was incredibly surprised.
I have been a part of the community on Sto for the last few years and a friend sent me the article of what happened to you guys.
Its really hard to believe anyone would be so cruel as to try this, but you guys have shown that when people sink to that low a level we do not break, we do not bend, we rise above and show them that petty stuff like this will not go unanswered.
Everyone in STO should take notice of this, everyone should take the time to listen and learn here.
I would like to make a donation to your cause as well, will be in game over the next few days and keep an eye out so I myself can help you guys out as well, even if its just with a few million energy credits I would like to help.

my fleet, after hearing of this, decided to put in a policy of kicking members inactive after a certan amount of time. this goes for all peeps, down from TFC to lowly recruit. might i urge members of other fleets to recommend a similar procedure as well. again, my sincere regret for the event that took place. you will now be stronger than ever. to the hacker:go soak your head. never play sto again if this is what you'll do.
Good luck, Caspian/stovokor.

LLAP, everyone.
First off I want to thank the player community for the support they've show during this time.
Around 4 AM on April 4th a leader of Caspian had their account used against their knowledge to demote all the leaders and remove all members from our Fed and KDF fleets. This person then proceeded to promote his own character to leader and then finally demote and remove the last member of Caspian. The person responsible has stepped forward and claims the Fleet is in his possession and will return it once his demands are met.
We aren't sure how this person got access to one of our leader's account or email. We submitted a ticket to cryptic and their GM department has informed us they don't currently offer fleet support.
As a response, Caspian has decided to reform under the banner of "Caspian Rising" and as hard and painful as it will be start from scratch.
Gah! NOOOOO!
My motherboard has been shot for a few weeks. I'm just hearing about this. *sigh*
Rule number one in security: keep clearances current. Well, rule number sev...elev...? I forget, but it's up there.
A painful lesson, but one that the whole community can learn from. Demote or dismiss non-active members.
That said, this is a horrible act of *theft* that needs to be punished to the full extent of the law. Sure, this is theft of "virtual goods" but let's be clear: stealing and using usernames and passwords that do not belong to you is against the law (18 U.S.C. 1030 to be exact... which subsection to charge him/her with depends on some facts I don't have).
Real people spent real money on materials to build that base. Cryptic gets real money from the purchase of fleet modules which can ONLY be redeemed at Fleet Shipyards. Make no mistake, if the average player has ANY reason to mistrust the fleet system, it is a threat to Cryptic's bottom line.
Put yourself in the shoes of a Fleet Admiral. If you get an email that says "send X bitcoins to account Y within 24 hours or I delete your base," what are you going to do? GM ticket? Complain on the forums? Pretend you never got the message? Plead for mercy? Talk the guy down to X-5 bitcoins?
Two things need to happen:
1) Cryptic needs to lock out ALL accounts that did not change their passwords after the breach. Yes, that will make it slightly more difficult for players returning to the game to login. Yes, a certain number of those players who are confronted with a "change your password" screen will just give up. Tough. It was a corporate error when the passwords were stolen. This is a knock-on cost of that failure. Eat it and move on.
2) Cryptic needs to hire an Ombudsman. There are more shenanigans going on now in several facets of the game. As it gets more complex, this is inevitable. There will be gray areas. There needs to be human review of these issues. But more importantly, there needs to be *assurances* given to the playerbase that their work will not be in vain in this type of situation. Yes this is an MMO. Yes this is teh interwebz where mean nasty trollz get their jollies. Yes it's caveat emptor and everyone man for himself... herself... whatever!
But this is Star Trek.
We're better than this.
This is really depressing. A lot of us spent many stipends and even real money buying dilithium to further the fleet.
I'm going to have a hard time justifying doing that again if one compromised account can do this without any corrective measure on Cryptic's part.
Hey guys i heard about youre situation the other day, all i can say i feel for every single one of you( that sucks ! What i have to admire is you fleet spirit as a whole, on top of that how the community has rallied round to help your fleet ( god its good to see ). If you want extra help i can send some supplies your way, stay strong!
As one of the Fleet Leaders of Caspian Rising and Caspian Honour Guard, I am still amazed by all that has been done by other fleets to support us.
From tiny 4 man fleets to those numbering in the hundreds, support had flowed. We had nearly 50 people in our ventrilo last night as we ran missions together to work on gather fleet credits and other needed items.
We will have to wait for the special projects to come back into cycle for us to get what we lost back onto the starbase and embassy. It was losing those little touches that hurt the most, knowing you and others had created them; only to see them taken away.
Many want to bash Cryptic and Perfect World Entertainment. I implore that this not be done, out of respect for what they do; as each case is different and they have to weigh the decision of restoring items lost over not doing them. In this case a fleet losing every project it had completed on their base over rebuilding in the long term, it matters little. Those projects were virtual in any case.
As for what is going on recently in both fleets. Caspian Rising is just about finished with all it's Tier 1 projects, the Transwarp gate is about to be worked on so the projects to advance us to Tier 2 have already begun. The Caspian Honour Guard, a smaller fleet of course is a smidge behind; but will be soon following Caspian Rising into Tier 2.
The embassy tier's we are just waiting for the respective tier project to complete. Each one we have discovered is 4 days, which slows us down but we are dealing with it and building up supplies needed for the future projects needed to fill them.
If the goal of the individual was to demoralize us as a fleet, it fell flat. We have grown even stronger and I believe it has made the community pull together as well; since many do realize this could have been them.
I will continue to post reports of our fleet's progress; as it helps the community understand how things are going and where their donations of material and other items have been utilized.
Again from the fleets of Caspian Rising and Caspian Honour Guard, thank you all for your support and if you are in need at anytime please be sure to contact us. We will respond.
I'm not going to bash Cryptic over this but I do think it puts the fleet system into perspective, underscores the need for better security, and reaffirms why other games with guild advancement systems put most of the work/progress on the character rather than the fleet.
I'd certainly have feedback for how I think the fleet system would be revised based on this.
Personally, I'd be inclined to make it so that starbase XP is much easier to get but can be lost (including facilities being turned offline) when people with high lifetime fleet credit totals get booted from a fleet, to discourage this kind of behavior and/or the selling of fleets, which is what drives this kind of action.
The easier to get part seems to be part of the plan but I think a major factor would be:
Track the percentage of lifetime fleet credits. A fleet that boots a member loses a percentage of its progress based on the percentage of lifetime fleet credits.
Then have it so that when someone voluntarily quits a fleet, they have the option to leave without penalizing the fleet's progress.
With bootings however, the progress loss should be automatic. That would encourage fleets with personality disputes to work things out amicably, possibly offer big contributors a severance to persuade them to quit rather than booting them, and make fleet theft a thing of the past.
I've been keeping up with this as our own fleet progress has developed and it has encouraged me to look at our own safe guards that are in place.
A fleet leader is entrusted with the safety and security of the fleet, from enemy's both foreign and domestic. Its completely understandable how this happened, and its not the fleet or fleet leaders fault because we are all part of gaming communities, we have friends, fellows, and as we grow we these people we learn trust and that we can count on them.
This is not your fault caspian, its not the fault of your rules, or your setup, or your leader, its the person that did this. They have no true understanding of what any of that means cause they don't have it, they have a empty fleet with a now empty name.
They have not taken your friendships, they have not taken your honor, or your home, cause you are still here.
What they have done is make you closer, make you closer to this community as a whole in sTO, made you more fleet contacts, made you aware that through all this they can not take away your friends, your allies, your mates in game.
To all of Caspain rising, you have shown what makes this community great, you have shown true strength and friendship in troubled times, and that my friends is what fleets and guilds are truely about, not resources or starbases or embassies, friendship and the strength to rise above!
You have our support, whenever and wherever it be needed.

LLAP, everyone.
Caspian Rising and its sister Klingon Fleet Caspian Honour Guard have passed the Tier 2 and Tier 1 milestones respectfully and it is the result of the kindness and heartfelt support of the Star Trek Online Community.
We have of course hit that 2 day construction windows on most of the projects. The Embassy projects taking 4 days a piece is a bummer; but that we are dealing with the local Romulan Unions, it is best we can do at the moment.
I can say that Cryptic has plans in the works to prevent another Caspian from ever taking place, so those in the leadership positions of the fleets pay close attention to the changes that are coming. (Captain Gecko is one of the folks working on the prickly issue.)
We have created an ambassador fleet section on our website, at www.caspian-division.com for those with fleets who want to assist or do missions with our respective fleets.
It is still overwhelming for us to have the help we have received and I think it is in large part to the spirit of the members of Caspian Division as a whole. Sure the wanker destroyed our virtual bases and embassies; but they could not destroy us as a whole. The Star Trek Online Community and even Cryptic taking note of our predicament, we refused to sit idly by ranting. We took action, rolling up the virtual sleeves and diving right back in. Why? Because the friendships even separated by thousands of miles, we remained in touch.
What were the crucial lessons learned so far?
1. Removing inactive members from leadership positions and if accounts are known to be inactive, remove completely from the fleet. They can be reinvited later when they return.
One thing that was discovered was an individual claiming to be a former leader and member was angered they were removed. Their childish behavior resulted in the loss of our fleets. They managed to hack a inactive leader account and destroyed the fleets.
2. We did not have one person controlling fleet assets such as the website, Twitter feed and Facebook Page nor was the Ventrilo under the control of a single individual.
Communications played a crucial role in establishing and rebuilding the fleets. With the website unharmed (though we did detect an apparent attack) it stayed up and running. The Twitter feed and Facebook played crucial parts in getting the core people alerted of the problem and getting the rebuilding going.
3. Transparency. Do not be dorks like the boneheads in Washington D.C. or <insert name of your local government here> by trying to hide stuff or deflecting the issues.
I had realized from the start we needed to be open with everyone. Discover and report what we had left, where we had started and what was being communicated to Cryptic and Perfect World. Keep your fleet members informed of activities involving fleet assets which involve both EC and materials and in our case expenditures from our Paypal account. People who donate to the fleet with real money deserve a true accounting.
There can be no halfway, you have to give full exposure to what you as Leaders are doing.
4. Leadership. It was realized there were too many fingers in the jar, and with a vote taken via our Ventrilo; a core group of leaders were elected to start guiding our members from the blackness back to the light of the day.
5. Ambassadors. Everyone in a fleet is an ambassador, but it is a given there is a need to have a Fleet Ambassador to coordinate communications with other fleets and to receive their communiques in return.
Both our Website and Ventrilo serve as crucial communication portals along with the ingame chat system and email system. The fleets that have already reached out to us, we have established channels in the Ventrilo Server for their use and on our website we can exchange emails and forum posts outside the vagaries of Star Trek Online restrictions when it comes to using the Fleet Email system; as Fleet Leader I can send an immediate email to the registered users as well as the registered Fleet Ambassadors of fellow STO fleets.
6. Keep the spirit alive! For many who helped build Caspian Division the first time around, it was depressing and yes we had some experiencing real life depression. Be prepared for some to leave the game. We had some considering that, but we talked things out. Having the Ventrilo helped, as you could hear the person and their inflections of their voices instead of just seeing words on the screen.
We lost EVERYTHING! Period. All the special projects that had been completed, and yes even our 2012 Christmas Ornament. I loved turning it on just to see it spin around from the dance floor. People put their hearts into a virtual world only to see it wiped out. Having a game come to the end of its run for example is one thing, but to have what you and others worked for snatched away and destroyed in a cowardly and selfish manner was an entirely different matter.
We have worked hard keeping the spirit alive, and those who have joined us in rebuilding have seen that; and we are eternally grateful.
Again thank you all for the support you have shown and we will continue our updates as we reach the various Tiers; and when we hit Tier Five there will be a celebration the likes STO have never seen.
I will echo what Baller has said as I am the Fleet Ambassador for Caspian Rising and Caspian Honor Guard. The Star Trek Online community has been extraordinary.

We have ran events and STFs with many other fleets to help us work back to where we were. I know that our fleet has grown in their resolve to work together and we are generating additional members as well as stronger alliances in the STO community.
We have created fleet embassies in our Vent server so you may join us and talk with us. Please feel free to contact any one of our fleet leaders or me to gain access.
Again from the fleets of Caspian Rising and Caspian Honour Guard, thank you all for your support and if you are in need at anytime please be sure to contact us. We will respond.
I want to throw an acknowledgement in this forum for all the Fleets that have either offered their support, joined us on Vent, or enjoyed events/STFs/etc.

LLAP, everyone.
