Vulcan D'Kyr

redthegreatredthegreat Member Posts: 0 Arc User
Greetings,

For those of use who like to play as Vulcans, I wish the the dev team could go back and offer upgrade options for ships like the D'Kyr. I'm a Fleet Admiral and I would like my ship to match. Personally, I do not care all that much about new designs or anything - just a retrofit or fleet option putting the D'Kyr on par with higher level ships.

Thanks for listening.

I support this idea and if they fix the animation for its nacelle trails and warp bloom that would be awesome as well.

I am still not sure... canonly speaking, why the Vulcans, Andorians and Caitians have a separate ship line from Starfleet if both are members of the Federation... of which Starfleet is the military branch.

I've always thought that while Starfleet is the military and exploratory arm of the Federation as a whole, I felt that the individual members would still have the freedom to build ships on their own, or even if they didn't make them, purchase them from others.

After all, Starfleet is big, but not everywhere. They couldn't handle the sheer scope of the civilian needs of the whole Federation, even in peace. There's just too much ground to cover.

So I have a feeling that members could do as they wished if they wanted to have ships. Like keeping a mothballed fleet for their home system's defense. The Andorians would still probably have the Imperial Guard, and the Vulcans would still be sciencing it up in their own D'kyrs. Plus of course, the individual members would still need to handle the trading and transportation needs of their people.
I remain empathetic to the concerns of my community, but do me a favor and lay off the god damn name calling and petty remarks. It will get you nowhere.
I must admit, respect points to Trendy for laying down the law like that.

D'Kyr is a very ancient design (I own one on my primary character )its a fine ship for science officers and indeed is standard in the Vulcan science community

Being an admiral does not mean you need a more potent version
just upgrade your guns and consoles (Scicom alpha flys with an all plasma load out for example)

I think it is more like the way the US handles things. The US has the National Guard and the Federal Reserves. These State and reserve forces wear the same uniforms, receive the same training, have the same rank structure, and use the same equipment.

Likewise, a Federation planet would have its own planetary guard and Starfleet reserves.

Both of these forces would be trained by Starfleet, adhere to Starfleet standards, wear Starfleet uniforms, and fly Starfleet ships.

In all of the history of Star Trek, I never remember a Federation planet having its own non-Starfleet warships.

A possible route might be to release 2 other variants, like the 3-ship packs Cryptic's been releasing. Release a variant that's more engineer-focused, and one that's more tactical focused.

Either that, or a retrofit like OP says. It could probably use one. . .maybe a 3rd eng console slot, an ensign tactical or engineering boffstation, and a few other odds and ends.

You know canonly speaking, there were never told that they don't have them either. Starfleet is the military branch, and its mostly human fleet and while they secure Federation as whole, I believe that some member races also have their own small fleet to defend their own homeworlds. Especially after Dominum War when some of main Federation planets were occupied by Jem'hadar.

Bajor in DS9 had small (and old) fleet, now Bajor is Federation member so what happens to those ships? I believe that those which could been upgraded are still in service as Bajor Defense Force.

It's a federation, not a top-down government. And starfleet is the federation's fleet. Member states still need their own local fleets for their own local purporses. The same reason that the individual states in the US federation still have National Guard for state-specific tasks, the same reason the member countries in the EU have their own militaries, etc.

As to the OP's subject, I would also like to see this ship improved a bit. It has been overtaken by power creep on other ships. I dont think a "Fleet" version is the way to go, but some kind of C-Store refit would be nice.

Another way to look at it would be NATO. Each member country of NATO contributes their own forces, while those members who are not as capable purchase equipment from those who are.

I, like most others in this thread, are only Vice Admirals. How is it you were able to become a Fleet Admiral?

So I have a feeling that members could do as they wished if they wanted to have ships.

In addition to that, there are also non-starfleet or private institutions on those planets that could operate it's own ships (e.g. the Vulcan Science Academy or the Vulcan National Merchant Fleet). There were also a lot of ships identified as Tellarite, Andorian, Vulcan, Rigelian etc... vessels, transports, science ships and freighters on TNG and DS9, while those are all members of the Federation.

But I wholly support the OPs idea or request. The D'kyr is such a unique and beautiful ship to have it remain almost obsolete and currently not worth the Zen. Same thing goes for ships like the Atrox, K'Tanco or the Dacoit.

Probably the best way to look at it would be a more focused version of the UN, or a looser version of the USA. The Federation geverns all of Federation space, and probably has overriding rules and laws. Starfleet is their military and exploration arm, which carries out those laws and protects all parts of the Federation, while also trying to expand its influences.

Each member government probably contributes in some way to the Federation, which may include supporting Starfleet, however it wouldn't surprise me that some member worlds that were well established before joining the Federation would have their own military and space fleet, and that those organizations would probably find themselves in more home defence duties. And there is probably a lot of friction between Starfleet and the home defence forces, and with families with traditions in one seeing their offspring going to the other, and so on.

ehh., i wouldnt say the federation governs everything in its space. member races still have their own governments, the federation laws, while they apply to the federation as a whole, arent the end all be all, they dont cover everything and so dont encroach on planetary governments. whereas planetary governments can create laws and such as they wish except for when they go against federation law.

And who's to say planets dont have their own fleets? If you read the C-store description of the atrox Carrier it pretty much says that the Caitians are lending them to starfleet to combat the KDF carriers.

I have a feeling we will eventually see a fleet D'Kyr.

Tho, I own one now... and she was never really any good. I would say she was pretty, but she has more graphics gliches then I can remember, so she isn't that pretty in the end, either.

She is alright for a sci ship, but I never really got on with straight sci ships. <3 my carrier.

Edit: Blast these threads... every time I find one of them it makes me want to drag the ship out and apply all I've learned to it and turn it into a monster... I needed something to do... Beware me in a thousand pugs with experimental D'Kyrs...

Don't know why. Back in the day it was a prime science vessel that came extra with one of the best and toughest small ships in the game. These days the Vesta outclasses it hard but I will say it is still one tanky Sciship.

It's also outclassed by all the Fleet science ships. Those ships have a 1.43 shield mod, while the D'kyr only has 1.3

1.3 is good, but why not just take that 2000 zen and get a Fleet sci ship? That's probably what goes through a lot of people's minds. Same cost for a better ship, only downside being the character-binding.

I always saw the Federation as like the UN. With their white vehicles and blue uniforms. They are a unified force representing everyone's neutral interests yet every nation operates their own military forces.

So with the Federation a unified force representing all member planets interests they still operate their own ships as long as the Federation ideals are represented.

There was talk about a 'founders of the federation bundle' with the Andorian broadsider, a new Vulcan ship and possibly a Tellarite ship. Time will tell, however.

Because most people dont like to play ships, what majority plays also.
I personally like to be apart for majority and i try to stay away from standard starfleet designed ships.
I will buy D'kyr rather than Vesta just because its different looking.
Is it vice? Maby not, but i like to look cool (what i think is cool) :)

And i think D'kyr is way better looking tha any starfleet ships, its just sad that vesta is so much better, but thats the life.
And if i hear some one saying in elite stf..ur ship sucks...then i suggest players complain to dev team :)

One point for me shoosing d'kyr is that i want to try finding ways to make it even better, carefull planing what consoles to shoose and so on.
And trying to play it way diffrently than thousand of cruisers and dps machines...
    healing, supporting others, controlling :)
Learning to play a proper scince ship not just piu piu everything i see :)

Whatever Cryptic does with the D'Kyr, I've held off buying it simply due to the fact that it's visual mechanic was badly bugged and I can't apply the Veteran's material to it. I understand the warp ring and docking mechanic were updated recently. So that's one out of two. ;)

I actually like the D'Kyr and it's the one of the only 2 reasons why I sometimes play Fed chars ( I prefer the KDF by far).

    1) The Andorian Kumari
    2) The Vulcan D'Kyr

I don't really like the Federations starships (except perhaps the Vesta) and I've always loved the looks of the D'Kyr. It might not be the best ship out there but as soon as my Vulcan Science Officer hits Rear Admiral Lower Half I will get one. After all Infinite Diversity in Infinite Combinations would prefer it that way... :D

    Nothing wrong with the Dkyr.

It's a nice tanky science ship.

In my view, its way overdue a fleet version.

Additionally, I also believe it should be available to Romulan toons.

I know, no allied tier V ships and all that, but surely this one ship should be the exception?

What with the reunification movement and all that, it seems very odd that romulans can't pilot the ship.

And, i can just imagine what a Romulan could do with one, all fitted up with plasma.

    So.. much.. Necromancy..

Really though, I'm surprised there isn't a fleet version yet - considering even the Atrox got one.

Also, there are at least two canon Vulcan designs that could be used for a new ship. The Suurok Class and the 'Future Cruiser/Retrofitted Carrier'. The latter might be a viable Flight-Deck Cruiser if the KDF ever get a Raptor with a hanger.
