@akurie666: I'm not saying this to be rude or anything, but you're an idiot. You make all these threads about new ideas and while some of them just plain out aren't good, you also have some really, really good suggestions or atleast concepts for changes that could definitely make the game better. However, and this is where the idiot part comes in, you tend to very quickly attack people that either don't agree with you or point out why your "most" or "majority" or "hardcore gamers" assumptions are wrong.
You have to stop looking at STO as a typical MMO, because in many ways it is anything but. Because STO is Star Trek based it has a more varied playerbase than what you're used to with other MMOs. This game draws in everyone from 10 yr olds to people in their 50's/-60's that grew up with the original series.
Once you can break out of the typical 18-35 mmo logic you're stuck in I think you're ideas will become much more concrete concepts on how this game could become more dynamic for all of the range of the playerbase and therefore much more appealing for some serious consideration. You just need to learn to broaden your thinking process because of this wider range of players and to learn to be less hostile with people in general.
Now on to your ideas from this thread.
Crafting system: Crafting in this game is pointless. The Voyager TV series did something very different in that the crew designed and build a new type of shuttle. Originally the crafting in STO allowed you to craft the Delta Flyer after you obtained all the materials needed. Then once the game went F2P they removed this in lieu of the c-store. And in reality nothing in the crafting system is really worth when you can just go to the exchange or now the fleet store and buy better gear. I definitely agree with you that the crafting system needs a huge overhaul, but not only that, it also needs to matter and be a place where we can craft unique gear that can't be obtained from anywhere else.
Kits: The kits on this game specifically the end game ones are as broken as the tac/eng/sci classes. For example, Captain Picard was as much a brilliant Engineer of sorts as he was a tactician. What I mean by that is he knew his ship, the equipment he used, what it was capable of and what it could be capable of. STO and the kits in it completely disregard secondary and beyond skills and force use to focus on really only one skill set. This is where the crafting system could come into play as well where we could craft our own kits with different abilities we pick. For example the Grenade of a tac, the forcefield of a eng and the medical generator of a sci. Kits shouldn't further force us into a "class" but should open up more possibilities.
STF: STFS are a meaningless grind that they attempted to give purpose by linking them to the rep system. The New Romulus adventure zone shows a glimmer of what they could do with other aspects of the game including STFS. Get more rep with the romulans and you unlock new areas. Much like your ideas of revamping STFS and PVES this new type of dynamic gameplay should be added to these areas of gameplay as well. Score in the top three of Starbase 24 and you have proven yourself capable enough to Starfleet for them to trust you with the Gorn minefield mission and so on until you start to unlock the normal STFS and eventually the Elite STFS. I think this really falls in line with your thinking of making the game more of a challange in a rather simple way and would also help new players really learn the tactics and teamwork it takes for these later challenges.
PVP: Not even sure the current PVP system is salvageable and now with forcing Romulan players to chose a FED or KDF side PVP seems like it'll be even more disconnected from the game than it already is.
And finally, again to reiterate on the beginning of this post I really wasn't trying to be rude. I am and will always be very upfront, honest and blunt. I apologize if my bluntness offended you or anyone, but please see it for what it was meant as, honesty and advice.
I wish people would stay on topic on one of my threads for once. As I already said, the Trek fans alone are not enough to sustain an mmo for long. STO must appeal to the gamers to survive in the long run against an incomming barage of new and very modern mmo games.
An X-com like mini game where you control your team or even a larger force vs another player in a tactical scenerio would be a lot of fun.
I also once suggested a card collecting game attached to the doffs. The Final Fantasy series had a card game that was an intresting side game. It would be fun to have another way to compete against players and a card game would be a laid back and fun way to interact in a new way. It would also be an escuse for them to sell "starter packs" for the trading card game.
Sorry for the double post, but just saw this. Are you referring to the Triple Triad side game that was in the FF series? If that's the one you were referring to, then yes I completely agree that would be a very welcome additions.
As anti-social as I am, I really like some of the social zones in the game, but they're so bloody boring. Yeah okay so there's Dabo, but Dabo gets rather boring after awhile and there really aren't any good rewards for it. Mini-games are a great way to add a change of pace to a game and relieve much of the "grindfest blues" like Triple Triad did in FF. So definitely with you on that one and tying it to the doff system would really add some great rewards. Then they just need to finally add poker.
Edit because of your other new post:
In many ways this game survives BECAUSE it is Star Trek related. As you've said many times before there are other MMOs out there and up and coming ones. To be honest some of the ones I've heard about that are still in development (Star Citizen for example) sound to be a much better mix for the masses, being a mixture of the simplicity of use like STO has with the complexity and challenge of harder games.
STO will always appeal to some degree to players because of the ST theme, and I agree they need to become more dynamic to survive in the long run. However because they know they will always have that fanatical ST following I really can't see them Drastically overhauling the game. The very core engine of this game doesn't even seem capable of ever being able to elevate this game beyond the casual easy play mechanics that they have developed this whole time. Nothing you do in this game matters towards anything else. You can't refuse an Admiral's orders to slaughter innocent Romulans because she's really an Undine Spy and get a commendation from Starfleet for your good work, thus earning a unique reward. I'd bet any amount of money deep down that's what you're really craving in this game and where all your suggestions have been steaming from. If I'm right on that thinking then you've been misrepresenting yourself by saying "real gamer" or "Hardcore gamer" when simply all you mean is more dynamic gameplay.
The card game would give the players who enjoy the social zones somthing to do together besides tell gorn jokes. Poker would be acceptable, but I would like to see something new and creative. If they do add poker they had better let us wager against each other.
If they EVER do allow that then you, me, Romulan ale and many hours of playing the second the game gets done patching.
Actually I'll see your Triple Triad doff mini-game and raise you one. Normal player wager poker but also high stakes poker where you could end up betting/winning lockbox ships in tournaments.
I see your ale and I raise you 600 refined dilithium.
See where I am going with this
I see your 600 refined dilithium and raise you my 2yr anniversary oddy...no no wait I sent that to the whaling station...err scrapyard the day after getting it.
ummm.....
I'll raise you a blue engineering doff to exterminate all the tribbles on your fleetbase lol
god I wish you were in my fleet your entertaining lol
see this is why your mini-game idea needs to make it in the game. Just joking about in on the forums is entertaining lol
Or any game like that for the matter.
Such mini games would add diversity, though their tooltips would need to be very clear about wagers.... or we would end up with people who did not knew what they wagered.
Let us wear Swimsuits on Foundry maps or bridges please! I would pay zen for that.
OP: You whine about 'trolls' being 'off topic' when someone disagrees with you. They're being on-topic, you're just being a brat.
Also, when you start flinging insults at casual players, talking about 'real gamers', and subtly insulting RPers (they should be quarantined!). . .you're gonna get flack for that. Stop whining about people being 'off topic', you're the one who set it off. Unless you wish to recant your arrogant and rude remarks about the majority of the playerbase? Maybe then people will stop dragging your precious, genius-filled thread 'off topic'.
Also, you don't get to control what people say in a thread you start. Get used to it.
My PvP toon is Krov, of The House of Snoo. Beware of my Hegh'ta of doom.
I always cringe when i hear a politician start a speech saying "Real Americans..." or look at past despots and the like who state real "insert your choice" here. Real gamer, hardcore gamer, casual gamer, semi casual gamer, all those tags are divisive hyperbolic bull**** and need to stay in WOW where they first gained traction and divided the community.
Now these phrases are making their way into STO after all this time. They appeared sporadically since launch but now it would seem individualsor individual would like to insert derogatory dogma into STO and create the same divise garbage thats plaguing other MMO's.
Now, lets see how this works out, continue, didnt mean to interupt your fun.
For reasons I will not go into, this thread has run its' course and does not appear to contributing any further useful dialogue or feedback. Therefore, I am closing it with my trusty [Wide Angle Forum Phaser Mk XIV [+Mod][-Flames]].
