Thanks for the words of wisdom !!
I would like to offer you my views of pvp in STO
First a little history on me, since you assume that I need to read yours.
First I played STO for a little over a year when it went Free to play
I immensely enjoy the Star Trek FRANCHISE!!! whatever movie or every show I have seen them all huge trek fan and really all around Nice guy.
started playing pvp with 2 other ppl
Wan5
KBLS
We were in a very much RP and PVE fleet the Borg Special Operations Group.
All 3 of us have played together for the better part of 6 months and we decide we love pvp at least Fed Vs Fed ( Wan hates Carrier KDF CHEESE)
We form the Galactic Privateer Syndicate together and vow that we will ALL be equal and everyone who joins our fleet can be free to do what they want and play what they like (PVP, PVE RP whatever) we all try to answer questions from new players and even try to help members upgrade their builds. . . We do not tell kids to go out and spend 30$ -50$ on ships or Consoles to win match's. We try to play the game like a game of Chess or a honorable Joust! We hold PVP practise groups etc. and enter the queues and fight arenas and have fun and win and lose.
The fun part about this game is the ability to Counter other ppls powers.
I see Torps I hit BFI
I see 5 ppl shooting me at once I use RSP
I see my team mate getting shot I use Extend Shields
I see someone with 2 Beam overload Stacked on them I use Scramble SENSORS with a BIOLOGIST!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I see why you Sad Pandas can hold a pvp tournament and come up with 10 rules that ALL teams must use and blah blah blah its Great!!!! it really is !!!
But if our match with your team is the outcome of a Tournament HOSTED and WON by the same fleet I call Shinannigans!!! Have fun standing on that Podium when the SAD Pandas win another PVP Tournament and have Vanquished ALL who come to fight you
But if our match with your team is the outcome of a Tournament HOSTED and WON by the same fleet I call Shinannigans!!! Have fun standing on that Podium when the SAD Pandas win another PVP Tournament and have Vanquished ALL who come to fight you
Just to clear up any misconceptions.
The Panda team entering the tournament is a combination of newer pandas and other Pandas that don't often get a chance to play together as a premade.
Many other veteran Pandas have been dispersed among teams that have been unable to fully fill a team.
This tournament, and other big events such as PvP bootcamp, are ultimately bigger than any one fleet and really serve to boost PvP as a whole.
Also, to be perfectly honest, due to some current scheduling issues (RL stuff) there is a chance that this particular Panda team might be unable to enter (currently pending).
But if our match with your team is the outcome of a Tournament HOSTED and WON by the same fleet I call Shinannigans!!!
If you want to comment on the guide that's fine and I welcome it. If you have a complaint about Pandas in general please create a new thread or post about it in a more relevant one.
My compalint is with YOU not the Sad pandas in general
-The simple idea behind Playing-to-improve is approaching PvP as a constant learning experience. This means removing obvious crutches, and resisting the temptation of "I-Win" buttons. For example, if a skill is mistakenly changed into a one-shot ability, buck the trend and don't use it.
Maybe you should read a Guide about pvp I found on the Forum Written by a guy who doenst take his own advise. . . You have been using a 1 Shot Kill ability Since SEASON 1 and think that EVERYone else should be able to counter it!!
Come on Bro Man up and Drop your DEM Doffs than !!!!
And if your going to start a pvp GUIDE make sure to include ALL the HACKS and ALL the bugs and iregularities you have found while playing this game since Season 1!!! This also ensures that everyone has a Fair playing field and you might find that ppl will be able to compete with you !!!! Maybe you might even lose/get killed!!!!!!
Dont keep BUGS you find within your fleet because you simply have no class.. . .
I have even invited Sad Pandas into my fleet we are all Friends
I just dont like the way YOU play the game
My compalint is with YOU not the Sad pandas in general

im glad someone else is carrying the "i hate jorf" banner now, ha ha. my arms are tired.
Ok then, bit of a back story for everyone then. We ran into a premade team in the queues and beat them. We queued again, ran into them again, and they all warped out. They claimed that double tapping beam overload was an "exploit", and even when we explained to them that it was a long standing gameplay element and told them how they could replicate it they didn't relent.
Bear witness everyone, for this is what you do not do if you ever want to be a successful premade.
You have been using a 1 Shot Kill ability Since SEASON 1
I've used double tap beam overloads in the past and have known about it since around season 1. I don't currently use it as I fly a sci/sci with only torpedoes.
and think that EVERYone else should be able to counter it!!
We can counter it. If lower tier fleets follow the guide and embark on the process of constant, iterative improvement then of course they can do the same.
Come on Bro Man up and Drop your DEM Doffs than !!!!
I don't think so. There's no reason to drop something that isn't broken. We'd be more than willing to drop them for a private match with you though to demonstrate how very little it will change anything between opponents of vastly different skill levels. Let me know if you're interested.
And if your going to start a pvp GUIDE make sure to include ALL the HACKS and ALL the bugs and iregularities you have found while playing this game since Season 1!!!
We go out of our way to report bugs, not use them. You also misunderstand the intent of this guide -- it's not to teach people the optimum way to set up for the current meta-game. If I were to make such a guide it would most likely be obsolete the moment the Romulan expansion comes out. Rather, the intent of this guide is to impart the appropriate attitude that's needed for rapid advancement and high level play -- an attitude that you are most clearly lacking.
Nice work Jorf! Our fleet's trying to get better at PvP, and I shall be pointing everyone who PvPs within our fleet (who's not seen it already) to this guide as a way to look at the game.
I believe this is the same person I ran into the other day.
He complained about lockbox ships or P2W or whatever and then put me on ignore.
Guess that was not an isolated incident hm?
We honestly try to explain and help this specific group of complainers, but they simply refuse to see all the aspects of what has been happening to them, and how to prevent them.
They run escorts without any form of resistance or buff even, as a 'spam clearer' and 'Target Subsystem' controller or whatever and they are surprised they are getting one shotted, by double taps, full dhc, or whatever.
It doesnt matter and it converts into complaining and exploiting.
I'm always open for discussion and help, but people need the right attitude for that unfortunately, big wide PvP community problem.

how we pandas get so much hate.....i just don't get it sometimes.
Jorf hosts an open ventrillo, contact a panda to come hang out, see what we are all about.
we share builds and team play strategies with anyone interested.
honestly, ive been around since about 5 months before season 2, many of you know me, or at least have seen me in the q's.... please reach out for advice, the pandas are about the growth of this game, and the evolution of its pvp base. this is because we value true competition.
c'mon guys, we get to fly star ships. its trek. we are all trekkies.

Haters gonna hate, man. I personally am very grateful all the help given by the community.
Haters gonna hate, man. I personally am very grateful all the help given by the community.
I second this.
If anybody missed it, the guide isn't written to show people how to win. It's describing an organic process to create a group of people who can have fun and still like each other. Your success if you follow Jorf's advice will come internally within your fleet. Wins may follow, but that's not the real measure of success.
I admire a lot of people in this community, and I'll tell you why I admire what Jorf did. In a fleet that had a lot of individual talent but suffered from internal strife I mostly participated quietly, tried my best, and listened to the inevitable emotional spiral following a loss to a premade. I once went so far as to switch a to a build I thought was gimped because that's what I was told to bring to the team. I took a break at KOTOR's launch for a few months and used my return to quietly slip away into pugland.
Jorf, on the other hand, acted like somebody who watched their parents fight all the time and learned to have a peaceful marriage by doing the opposite. He took the lessons and helped create a fun fleet that has internal peace.
The Pandas could start ****ting the bed in every fight and they'd still be a successful fleet if their guys are happy to fly together.
In a certain sense, personal attacks on Jorf are irrelevant; I don't always agree with him on balance or gameplay issues or the way he delivers his opinions, I don't expect that anybody agrees with me or likes me all the time, and what's more, I don't expect that every member of the Pandas agrees with Jorf all the time.
But that's the thing, in a way the people who don't like Jorf are proving his point. Jorf is opinionated and sometimes merciless when it comes to details, and he figured out how to cultivate a positive atmosphere that makes people want to be there. He's laying out how to prevent personalities from wrecking things. That's how to be not terrible.

jorf also has the unintentional habbit of "saying it like it is" without careful thoughts to how its being said....
Not everyone can have the charm of James Bond. With that said, if Jorf would smile more, he would probably get more initiates :P
"Cryptic Studio’s Jack Emmert (2010): Microtransactions are the biggest bunch of nonsense. I like paying one fee and not worrying about it – like my cellphone. The world’s biggest MMO isn’t item based, even though the black market item GDP is bigger than Russia … microtransactions make me want to die.”

Charisma doesn't keep Escorts alive in premade matches, but hot-keying ally select to your feet just might. :P
