The current content is getting very repetitive and boring now.
Devs why do we have to wait until May for the new stuff????Its a very long slow wait, new stuff needed now.
It's two months. Barely enough time to prepare for impact. Certainly not enough time for them to actually DO it, at least not well. Take advantage of the time you have to brace for impact. It's not as long as you think. Children these days, so impatient.
what do they have?
- UI
- romulan costumes and character creator (perhaps not finished yet)
- ship designs
what are they working on?
- mission content
- tutorials
- new hair and costume options
- Zen store packs
- ship interiors and bridges
- DOFF system
- we also didn't get to see the HQ and academy (which I would certainly include in a teaser if i had them done)
yeah, 2 months to go!
in the meantime, why don't you finish off your toons and grind some DIll go get you started on May 21st?
edit - imho the picture in the toon creator.. what do you think? is it a shot from the fleet starbase or the Romulan HQ?

They been working on it long, long, long, before yesterday .

Do you mind a little advice? Starfleet captains are like children. They want everything right now and they want it their way. But the secret is to give them only what they need, not what they want.
imho they could have planned in to throw us a bone mid season. (not some silly Event stuff but something to do)
like i don't know, that Tholian Reputation System sound like something that doesn't need to be in the Romulan Faction update but could be released now to give us stuff to do.
The only thing i have left to do is to finish up grinding some STFs for the MK XII ground costume unlocks (could be long done by now, but i play STFs only when i feel like it, those 3 maps really have gotten old)...

yeah, i know what you mean.. i'm now grinding for accolades on my main.. some more enemy captains from various fleet actions to go..

What do they have? A bunch of lame photoshops they're attempting to pass off as screenshots. Unless you believe in time travel, it is physically impossible for them to have genuine screenshots of things that don't actually exist at this point in time.
None of those things are real. In fact, they all look blatantly fake. Screenshots of the actual game just don't look anything like that. It's all just photoshop...instead of actual WORK.
I see little to no evidence of this, not even a serious claim that this is so, not that such things have any credibility at this stage.

You do realize that Denise Crosby was at Cryptic for several weeks working on content for the expansion? No offense but you come across as a petulant kid ... one without a clue at that. It doesn't take several weeks to do voice-overs for a 10 minute quest. They have the content done or nearly done.
I'm not expecting the launch of this expansion to be flawless but stating that those videos and screenshots are photoshopped is stupid.

There have been interviews with Devs from as far back as November stating that they are "working on something but can't discuss it at this time."

If you're trolling, I pity you. If you're not trolling, I pity you.
Indeed... I would say they likely began working on it at the same time Season 6 was being worked on. That may be the reason for essentially doing nothing but reputation and fleet holding grinds for two seasons straight. I figure we actually got some initial material for this in the form of New Romulus and the Tau Dewa Sector Block.
Apparently they feel confident enough about the stability and deliverability that 3/21/2013 was deemed an appropriate date to officially announce this thing. And we have to remember that this is NOT season 8. This is bigger than a season release. As to whether or not they will COUNT this as season 8 being lumped in with the may release, or if they will resume their season updates with season 8. We shall see...
the May 21st is an important date, cause the JJ movie is also coming out..
and it is not like there was a new ST movie every year..

I suspect season 8 is lumped in with it. Every feature they've listed for season 8 that I can think of is listed as part of the expansion. (Trait system, customizable UI, etc).
personally i think, that what this "grand" reveal showed can and must be only a fraction of the work they must have done up to now. Why? Simply because the pictures we got can't be remotely be enough to be called a full 3rd faction.
i mean, fleetbase...capital city, shipyard, missions
instead we saw UI change (don't know how extensive, but what i saw on the picture is purely cosmetic)
3 concept arts...
2 new enemy ship types
1 new romulan ship model (TOS BoP)
a model of sela (which was in the game anyway - tasha yar)
so, either they hold back a lot for weekly updates, or a 2 month from now release date is not even remotely realistic.
I sure hope they got more in the drawer, but having a 20 day countdown for 5 screenshots and a 1 min vid was disappointing, atleast for me.
Yes because the Breen Chel gret, the Ambassador (Enterprise C) and Kamarang oh and the Andorian ships weren't enough.
Seriously people... get a grip.
Ships Ships Ships... i have plenty of Ships... i want something to DO with them,
something that i have not repeated a million times already if possible.
(and btw. i do not count running in circles over a winter map, or playing a mission where i do NOT get to fly MY ship... something to do with MY Ship... technically speaking)
i'm also talking about the next 2 months. because right now, i see nothing happening there but tribble testing the may update.
The timer and teaser site are live, so what is the next big or small thing on the schedule?
Tholian Rep System... would have been just right for a gap of 2 months.
3 Maps and a hand full of items and passive skills...
*shrug*
just saying that would have been an option if it had been timed right from the start.
I'd take anything else too. But 2 months of nothing... doesn't sound very entertaining, and if there is one thing i expect from a game then it is to be entertained.

Speaking of which, I really wish they would stop with the TV lingo. The word "season' just never worked well with me. They should use something more Trek(ish) or scientific sounding. Eg; 'environmental enhancement update', 'content augmentation pack', 'player enrichment release', 'interactive experience improvement' -etc...
It is a tiny point which is not very big or sharp but a point nonetheless.
If you are looking for an excellent PvE fleet consider: Omega Combat Division today.
Former member of the Cryptic Family & FriendsTesting Team. Sadly, one day, it simply vanished - without a word or trace...
I'd take anything else too. But 2 months of nothing... doesn't sound very entertaining, and if there is one thing i expect from a game then it is to be entertained.
why don't you go play something else then? we both know you'll be back at may 21st
Are people really arguing about why it takes so long to complete new things? Really?
I understand people are impatient and want it now but just because it's talked about now doesn't mean it's done. They don't start advertising a new movie a day before it opens. I saw Avengers trailers months before it it opened - and I have seen several different Star Trek: Into Darkness trailers over the last couple of months too.
To put it into movie terms, most of the filming on LoR is complete. It is now in the editing, sound effects, and special effects stages. In 2 months it will be ready to open.
And this is certainly not uncommon within the gaming industry. I pre-purchased the new SWTOR Expansion Pack 2 months ago, and it will still be several more months before it goes live. I knew about the new LotRO Expansion Pack 8 months before it went live. That's just the way it works in the industry.
STO is about my Liberated Borg Federation Captain with his Breen 1st Officer, Jem'Hadar Tactical Officer, Liberated Borg Engineering Officer, Android Ops Officer, Photonic Science Officer, Gorn Science Officer, and Reman Medical Officer jumping into their Jem'Hadar Carrier and flying off to do missions for the new Romulan Empire. But for some players allowing a T5 Connie to be used breaks the canon in the game.

What if the newly hired devs were being trained on Cryptics software by creating the Romulan and KDF content. That way training served two useful purposes.
I see little to no evidence of this, not even a serious claim that this is so, not that such things have any credibility at this stage.

Please direct your attention towards the offered video where actual in game footage is being shown. There is a clip there of a TOS Bird of Prey (the Romulan Starter ship evidently AND which has not been seen in STO in over 3 years) fighting newer Romulan BoPs in an area similar to the Federation Borg starting areas.
The TOS BoP had to be created, debugged and made to work with player control. Now, I really can't say when exactly that TOS BoP was made but it is clearly evidence that the Cryptic devs have been working on this new Romulan faction coming in May.
It should also be noted that often they work in different code branches, and everything is tied together from a coding point of view. Simply picking one thing to release early might not always be practical or possible.
yes you can think ahead and plan it to all work out, and maybe there is some merit to doing that but what ever they release will be played and consumed in minutes and will detract from the next update itself.
this stuff will start to hit tribble probably end of april, there might be something of interest nof first contact day. its really not that long of a wait. patience.
Now the official announcement has been done there is 2 months to get the word out to everyone. Every Romulan fan will tell their friends, family and pets that they can finally play a Romulan. I expect Cryptic will be going through as many media channels as possible to spread the word, and release plenty of teaser snippets of information to get everyone excited.
So come May, if all was successful, there will be an influx of new players alongside everyone else rolling new Romulan toons. My main concern right now is how the servers will bare the brunt of this activity when it all goes live. They melted during the anniversary and that event didn't have the fanfare this expansion is getting.

Hmm, you do make a very valid point regarding the login server and the shards ability to serve up content for the multitude of presumably new players eagerly attempting to enjoy the new Romulan faction.
Well, I guess I will have to just trust in my head-of-line privileges for being a Lifer.
We have to wait because they sadistically enjoy letting people get bored, and want us to move on to other things, so that they don't get our pesky money and so that we leave them alone.
Not because they need time to test, and maybe, just maybe, are sick of releasing half done and extremely buggy content, and because some of the content isn't finished yet.
Don't look silly... Don't call it the "Z-Store/Zen Store"...
Do you mind a little advice? Starfleet captains are like children. They want everything right now and they want it their way. But the secret is to give them only what they need, not what they want.
