A brand new FE series would require the entire STO team to work 6-day weeks for a couple of months?
Yes. Look at how often they come out thus far.
Dan already mentioned there being a revamp of the character creation system coming with the May update. Why would they need to revamp the character creation system for just a couple of FE missions?
Stormshade already answered that in the relevant forum. It's part of the ongoing work on Neverwinter Online.
The image in the new teaser shows at least 3 ships, possibly 4, that we have never seen before, all Romulan silhouettes, why would they suddenly pump out 3 or 4 new ships that we've never seen and aren't really needed to progress the storyline, except to provide additional content where it is needed?
Something else I've noticed about the new teaser - none of the silhouettes look "Iconian" to me, especially when compared against the 2 Iconian ships that we've seen so far.
We do have some facts. We roughly know what season 8/ the "meh update" is about. There is no dev blog saying it explicitely but if you put together all the little elements we get occasionally then you have what I mentionned in my OP. And time constraints are also a hard fact.
Yes and no.... Do we know when the Devs started work on the may update? NOPE! The devs seem to have been setting aside Romulan assets for a while. How much might they have done behind the scenes already?
So 2 tutorials, eh? At what level will these tutorials start the character at?
Return of Sela is pretty much guaranteed with the voice work of Denise Crosby featured from her being in the Cryptic studios during March. How much voice work will she be doing? For just the FE's?
So what's going to be going on at Nimbus 3?
Another space adventure zone - like Tau Dewa?
I haven't read anything about any new rep systems so I'll concede this point. I can see something like this coming at the end of summer with Season 8.
Character creator will be revamped.
PvP rep system? again I haven't read anything about any new rep systems. I can see something like this coming at the end of summer with Season 8.
Of course there will be new lockboxes - probably with the May update. But they will NOT be Romulan lockboxes.
Playable first officer? Interesting idea when future plans include raising the level cap and adding at least 2 more ranks/levels which might provide having your BOs/First Officer commanding one/some of your stable of ships?
Beginning of Summer would be the perfect time to release a LOT of "expanded" game content to provide players plenty to keep them occupied all summer until Season 8 hits in maybe Aug-Sep-Oct time frame.
Devs are going to be working their collective rears off for the next few months probably doing 48-60hr weeks getting content ready for the May release.
Yes and no.... Do we know when the Devs started work on the may update? NOPE! The devs seem to have been setting aside Romulan assets for a while. How much might they have done behind the scenes already?
Wasn't there a point at which the Devs had a big plan for the Klingon faction to be completed but when it was sold to PWE it was changed in favor of lockboxes and grind to more fit with Korean standards? I seem to recall Dstahl pretty much saying as much shortly after the sale, or at least one of the devs doing so.
What if they added a 4th player class to each faction that would act as a New Romulus liason. You'd be a full member of either the KDF or the Federation, but you'd be able to play as Romulans or Remans, you'd have access to Romulan costume options, and you'd be able to access Romulan ships, gear, etc...

It was said after the purchase that PWE had both a fully functional KDF and vibrant PvP as important areas of the game to work on with thier acquisition of Cryptic, among other aspects of STO.
It was a short lived point of hope for the KDF fans when it was mentioned but since our desires ran so strong many fans later used it as evidence of more Anti-KDF Dev hate.

The RSE deserves it on faction. Why would those fans of it wish to be shackled to iether the feds or KDF?
[insert DUR, IT COULD STILL BE ROMULANS response here]
I'm still puzzled about the first officer thing. What exactly do people want out of this? To play as their first officer? Doing what? I'd rather handle away missions with my own captain. Or maybe it's some "special" kind of missions with new mechanics and what not?
Or maybe make a new character with their first officer? What's the point? Just make another bloody character with the same name, race, and appearance!
well, if its like the original idea. it was to promote the BO that was your first officer into a full captain, making him a new char that you get to start from scratch with. it would be an interesting idea if you promoted say your breen or reman char like that and play with them.
I still think this is too much buildup for an adventure zone and an FE series. When it was just the one teaser with fancy rollover letters I could believe it, but they're seriously investing some effort in hyping this.
I think they've been working on this longer than we're assuming. How much manpower do you honestly think they needed for the Winter Wonderland revamp, the one Anniversary FE, and the Kumari line? I'd guess they've had this in prelimiary works since at least November, probably systems, static art assets, and the like, which would be plenty of time to generate a few thousand random Romulan DOffs and set up a few dozen DOff missions based on existing templates We have had zero DOff updates since the Dominion series. Other than those system guys switching to Fleet/Rep development, there's not much else to explain the lack of updates. Then there' costumes and character artists - we've had none in quite a while. What are these people doing? Sitting on their hands? The last new costume we had was, what, the STF set visuals for Adapted sets?
I don't know. My logical brain is telling me it's a glorified FE and a content dump that's all Rommie-flavored. But my gut is telling me faction, or at least a considerable faction groundwork. I may be Kirking hard by saying this, but I'm... more-inclined... to go with... my gut.
After replacing "March beneath the Raptors Wings" with "Our shadow will dim the stars." it should be pretty obvious by now it's gonna be that Iconian Story Update they were talking about for X-months instead of a Romulan Faction about which they were talking about 0-months :P
Well of course it's all speculation, but at least we should speculate on what we know and not on what we want to believe ... since Cryptic's statement since launch was "No work on Romulan Faction before complete KDF" thats the one I'm going with :P
It seems rather amusing to me that so many of the naysayers constantly tout that line... when the same posters (generally) have called out Cryptic for NOT doing as they've said in the past...
Im kinda hoping this is when the new changes will start to be tested on tribble, but also doubt this is a romulan faction... They have stated several times the desire to flesh out the klingon side before even thinking about new factions.
The rumour I am hearing related to the romulan rollout also makes me not want it... pay to play, as in everything on the rommie side would cost real dollars... no, just no.

Now it's underlined. "In a way" is quite explicit.
Not to forget :
Dstahl: We have always had a plan for how we wanted to implement additional factions and we have polls dating back to early in the game's life when we were looking to see which future factions players were most interested in. If and when we release a Romulan faction, you can expect that it would set the stage for how a Cardassian, Borg, or any other faction would be introduced into the game.
Is there an audio somewhere for this? I ask because is it not just as much a speculation to place emphasis on those specific words?

I can highlight words and get meaning from it too....
I doubt they will have "3 way Pvp", so not too hopeful at this point.
Will probally have an option to make a fed or kling Romulan to help repel the invasion. You will be give a small bird of prey and can buy the Warbird ect from c-store, Scimitar in a lock box.
A full Rom faction maybe later, based around the Tal Shiar possibly or D'Tan, whichever one of them comes out on top after the invasion.
The "clues" that Cryptic give us are so blatently obvious that its Romulans. I took one look at the latest screenshot, then went on Google, and typed in Romulan writing, and here is what i've found:
Saying such silly things as "They havent had enough time to create a faction, well how do you know that they haven't been working on it for a year or two already? You don't do you?
Its going to be the Romulans, in fact i'm thinking that its going to be more precisley Tal shiar storyline, or another Romulan/Reman faction, as we are already seeing the Tal Shiar rear its head on New Romulus
Most people are using these teaser trailers as another excuse to have a random pop at Cryptic again, but i bet when the new content comes, you all be all over it like a sweaty vest. Then you'll spend a week whizzing around in a Mogai, then you'll be back on the forums flaming, criticising and trolling again, instead of showing Cryptic some appreciation for all the work that has been done.
If i was Cryptic, i would begin permabanning flamers on this forum, and the game. But they are obviously much more tolerant than i am.
I have taken some quotes off some of you rather daft "conspiracy theorists", and come May, when we have a new Faction, i shall be mentioning the things you said in this thread. Then me and some of the other more sensible players can put the spotlight on you, explaining how wrong you are, and how your views are proven to mean nothing, and should be ignored in future.
If any of you has a backbone, then you make a note to come on the forum, and publicly state that "I was wrong and Cryptic, I apologise." I'm sure some of you will respond to this today by saying that "this is what you will do if Cryptic do a good job", but in reality, we all know that you won't.
I'm sure most of you won't even bother with showing Cryptic some love then either will you?
As for me, i'm am very excited to see the romulans come into play for one reason. The D'Deridex. Out of all the ships in Star Trek, the D'deridex has always been my most favorite by far. As soooooon as that romulan content is released, and the D'Deridex goes into the C-Store, i will be buying it instantly!
It was said after the purchase that PWE had both a fully functional KDF and vibrant PvP as important areas of the game to work on with thier acquisition of Cryptic, among other aspects of STO.

i can remember that. Then, PWE has seen the numbers.
The RSE deserves it on faction. Why would those fans of it wish to be shackled to iether the feds or KDF?
i think this too.. if NO other faction came, ever, RSE should be the third big player.
but of course i would love to see other smaller factions coming together in a big universe..
Cryptic knows players WANT romulans and i do not think they'd be so stupid to advertise like this without giving us the playable faction. The only question is how the FORM of the faction will be.
That is the point we should be arguing about.
I would be OK with a fully fledged endgame faction starting at lvl 48.
Those of us which are playing with foundry know there already ARE Romulan assets there, toon models, uniforms, ship models.
Look at the Tau Dewa sector, Mol Rihan, all this work they've been able to accomplish in what - 3 months?
So I think copy-pasting the DOFF system, academy system and modelling a HQ with academy included would not be such a problem. Some 3 bridges, SB and Embassy, Green UI.. IMHO Doable in 5 months with 50 people working 6 days a week.
THANK YOU CRYPTIC
btw - there will be NO tribble testing. just a guess.

Not sure how your words would make it sound any better, if you really think they do ... let's see
1. always had a plan -> for more than three years now without any real evidence of it's progress ... past perfect isn't a vote of confidence either
2. dating back to early in the game's life -> again a lot of things Dstahl said date back to early in the game's life like complete KDF PVE, not more than 2 weeks between FE's etc ... doesn't mean it's all due in May ...
3. when we release a Romulan faction -> well I'm just gonna ignore that it's linked with "if and when", since that seems to be the modus operandi here ... but again "when" doesn't exactly sound like it's right around the corner either ... like to add another Quote from Dstahl from Feb Ask Cryptic here "when we can implement a Romulan Faction", which suggests they can't right now ...
-> i was just trying to underline the generel message ... using subjunctive mood several times just isn't exactly supporting this Faction idea ... that's not even an opinion that's just grammar ... might could happen (double modal :P ) none the less, just doesn't sound likely ...

Actually the only conspiracy theory in excistence is "there is gonna be a Romulan Faction" for sure ... because there is absolutly no offical statement that would suggest such a thing ... 10 weeks before launch ...
Most of these "conspiracy theorists" just try to calm the hype down, because thats what blows up the Forums since Day 1 ... people who can't manage their expectations ... speaking from experience the people flaming the forum will probably the ones who are not able to "whizz around in a Mogai", not the ones that didn't even expect it ...

I understand the frustrations of the Genuine players who have subscriptions, or who have invested much time and money into the game. But my understanding is this. You have been loyal and patient with Cryptic thus far. Now they have given you a date when something big with the romulans will happen. Whether its a full playable faction, or a major storyline, or even a new chapter, We should all look forward to it. This will bring the usual epic freebies which Cryptic hand out, like awesome weapons, new ships, more dil/marks/goodies bonuses. Whatever will happen, ALL and i mean ALL of the players will benefit from it.
So why the flaming and raging continues? Just sit on your hands, free the forums up from flaming,
and
wait.
Only completely brain dead ******* would moan about the prospect of lots of upcoming free goodies! Think about it.

I certainly never said May Update is gonna suck for sure or stuff like this ... I actually would prefer an Iconian FE i.E. over a rushed out Romulan Faction ...

I have just given Dan a romulan name.
Sela's Revenge with an Iconian-backed Bad Romulan fleet attacking Tau Dewa. Locked planets will open up as battle/adventure zones.
That the same DStahl that said the game wasn't going to go Free to Play?
