STO Crashing After Installing New "Platform Update for Windows 7"?

I installed that new "platform update for Windows 7" (KB2670838) on my Windows 7 x64 Service Pack 1 system last night, and Star Trek Online started crashing on launch. Has anyone else experienced this issue?

Same problem here as that was the only thing that I did change on my system. Today, after starting the computer, the launcher crashes with a Cryptic Error immediately after pressing the 'Engage' button. I did try patching, tried forcing a check - to no avail.

The weird thing being: sometimes, I was able to log in. Got to character selection once, selected a character... - and made the mistake of going back to windows to load TS3 to speak to my fleetmates. Which did reward me with a black screen and the STO mouse pointer when going back to STO - and no change to that after several minutes.

Another fleetmate has the same problem and is currently downloading STO again to try a fresh reinstall.

I fixed it !!! :) I had to roll back my computer to before the windows 7 update. So for me I had to do a system restore to 2/24/2013. That was when I updated my Java. Once I did the restore STO launched and I am playing it now. :) Hope this helps

Fixed it as well - strangely enough. We are using TS3 in our Fleet and the Overlay plugin does bork up things. Once I deactivated the Overlay plugin, I could get ingame.

This is not good, my machine auto updated last night. Hopefully STO doesn't bork for me either. This is a big deal if a Windows Update takes out STO.

I'm having the same problem it seems, as every time I load up the game, via STEAM and login via the launcher, I get this error: 18647525

Yep, same problem. Windows update and suddenly the launcher would crash instantly. Wouldn't even allow me to log in. Launcher would immediately produce a crash.

I tried loading the game client directly and it would just go straight into the crash report.

Disabling TeamSpeak overlay did appear to correct this issue. But I consider this only a work around as I do kinda rely on the overlay to know who is talking.

I know Cryptic/PWI will say it's a fault with TeamSpeak because there could be absolutely nothing at fault with their program.

I'm not having this issue despite having the same preconditions (win7 update/steam etc).

That's interesting. I use the TS3 overlay as well, and I was logged in to TeamSpeak when it happened.

I had simply resolved it by uninstalling the Windows Update that caused the issue.

Same problem here. I can only get into STO by turning off TeamSpeak.

Looks like it is the teamspeak overlay that is causing the game to crash after this patch.

Same exact issue here. Installed the new platform update & boom, no more STO. It keeps crashing every single time I try to load it. Hopefully someone will figure out why this is happening & release a fix for it.

I reported this on the TeamSpeak forums. Hopefully it won't be too long before someone looks in to it.

I had it working after getting rid of that awful Win7 platform update WITH TS overlay running but now for whatever reason, it's fubar'd again. So something with the TS overlay & STO are conflicting for some reason. I'll ask my techie friends if they have any ideas what's causing it & see what they say. Who knows? Maybe one of em'll know a (true) fix. If so, I'll post it here for everyone.

Guess its not my fault then ...
Was trying to get TeamSpeak to work for the first time, and every time i touched the overlay my STO would crash ...

So another confirm for the overlay crashing STO ...
Without it , all works properly

I'm hearing word that Microsoft has realized that there is an issue with the "Platform Update", however there is no information available regarding what they intend to do with it.

If you want the TeamSpeak 3 overlay to work, then just uninstall the Windows Update that caused the problem.
