Hmm... ST, especially TOS, had several references to races tha had imigrated to the milky Way from Andromeda. On of the (non canon) computer games had the idea that the Tholians were one of those races.
But... The Tholians have always been monkeying with stuff like that. Seriously, the FIRST episode with the Tholians had them experimenting with rifts between universes.
I always liked that back-story for the Tholians, plus what if the Tholians dont have the ability to invent!? or in that matter to re-produce? That is why they have such a fasination in harnessing technology...from the future, from alternate realitys, etc. Plus why they are so aggressive over their territory, in reality their not unlike humans in their nature but they have had to produce this image to others to defend themselves.
A good example is the first episode (Tholian Web), they could of blown the Enterprise out of the stars but they gave them a chance to rescue their Captain despite the strange excuse Spock gave about a disappearing ship.
Plus, what if the Doomsday Machine was originally programmed to hunt down the Tholian run-aways but malfunctioned? :eek:
And how many other Galaxys have been seeded by Tholians? :eek:
And who/what were they escaping? :eek:
IDEA: What if the Iconians escaped by using a gate to the Tholian Home Galaxy and enslaved them, but they rose up and escaped the Iconians in all directions seeding many Galaxies. Then when 'our' Tholians learn of the returning Iconians their thinking "uh oh, best start putting plans into motion and find a way to escape', hence their sudden hunt for Iconian Technology!
Thats why they want the Alpha-Powers to be at peace, to be decent cannon-foder! And why they lost the ability to be creative, because the Iconians removed it to prevent them being a threat!?
Perhaps in one of our storys we find a wrecked Tholian ship with an Iconian Data Rod, on it is a statement of parly with the Tholians, because the Iconians have already wiped out every other Tholian in every neighboring Galaxy! :eek:

(UFP) You are sent to assist an old freind; Miral Paris and a Defari Diplomat to negotiate peace between the Klingon and Cardassian powers before all out war is declared.
However before the meeting begins there is an explosion and both sides are blaming the other.
You are ordered to track the attackers and prevent war before it begins, in the investigation you detect nano-explosives in the blood of one of the Starfleet Security Guards.
With the trail going cold on who supplied the drug or how they invested his blood system, you recieve word from an old freind at Starfleet Academy who has a lead on the supplier, you go to meet his ship but find it destroyed from an internal explosion (sabotage), uploading the Data Recorder you recover a hidden message stating he is a member of Section 31 and they provided him with a name; Ginta, a Ferengi Arms Dealer.
You locate him on one of his Casino Ships and fight your way through the night club before questioning him, you eventually learn that he was paid to feed an unknown substance to a Starfleet Officer that passed one of his Casino Ships a week Earlier.
He identifys the buyer as Commodore Winston, currently in command of a task group along the Cardassian Border.
Confronting the Commodore in private he openly admits everything, along side several Starfleet Captains, that they provided a classified Weapon (nano-explosives) and planned the assination by giving the Defari Ambassador the proximity detonator within a braclet.
That they knew the War would be coming eventually and they simply wanted to trigger it so that the surrounding powers wouldnt be in position to wage war against the Federation.
However when you try to arrest him yo are forced to defend yourself against the Captains and Bridge Crew, he then reveals himself to be an Undine Infiltrator, working on a grand scale plot/plan to weaken the Alpha Quadrent powers.
The surprise doesn't stop their, his Commander reveals himself to be a Founder infiltrator and assists in stoping the Undine. Then once the Founder explains itself it vanishes into the air ducks.
Hours later as you report to Starfleet Command your findings, you are told it was for nothing as the two Fleets are gearing to attack each other at the Santos System, you are sent with command over the Task Group.
Upon arriving you are welcomed by two vaste fleets ready to do battle, each hail and offer for you to join them... which one will you be forced to fire upon? Your choice!?
This is just a brief summary of course. Might Spell Check it later!
Plus I'll re-do the Galactic Map tomorrow so we can keep editing and brain storming the Story.
Epic - This is great. Glad to see the idea taking shape.
Ricky's brief story inspired something in me just now...
Remember Deep Space Nine? The Dominion War story arc took a while to start, but eventually it quickened.
Perhaps we could do something similar!
1) The first episode's author creates a conflict. It's small, but has the potential to explode into something much larger. Note that this conflict is NOT the main point of the episode's plot, it's more of a hint.
2) Each author after the first episode: Depicts ONE of the two things:
2a) How the small "conflict seed" affects their chosen faction and its individuals and society, causing their faction to Respond.
2b) How their faction reacts to another episode's Response.
Bam! Pretty soon, a small little, insignificant incident blows up into a major plot idea that can be utilized in the episodes, or even sequel story arcs!
And this is exactly what I was hoping to achieve by "Persistent Foundry Series" - ongoing stories constant as the waves on the shore
Hi all. I've been following this discussion and really enjoying it.
Since the only group left looks to be the Ferengi, I'd be willing to take them.
I haven't been able to be ingame for a while because of work commitments, but I think this sort of structured story is just the thing I need to get back into the Foundry.
Since the Tholians have come up, I'll offer an idea I've been playing with for a while. The STO version of the Star Trek universe has basically drawn a line between the Tholian interest in space-time gates/phenomena and the Iconians.
I've been thinking alot about whether the Tholians might be a long lost branch of the Iconian species, or one of the groups that bombarded the Iconian homeworld (and took from their experience under Iconian rule an interest in gateways in space-time).
Just a thought. Looking forward to getting to know you all.

Basically for one of the Borg missions, have a Borg vessle appear and hail the player. Through dialogue trees give the player a choice between attempting to find a diplomatic answer or destroying the borg ship.
In subsequent maps have a dialogue pop up at the start of the map where someone is asking "what just happened" and the player answers with which choices they made of the past map(s) (thus triggering different map conditions). I know I'm liimited in what the actual objectives are but I don't know if that sounds like a great idea which would require a ton of work or something that in practice, just doesn't work out.
The idea I had for using that involved the derelect Ash'kaar ship mentioned earlier.

Well in mine the Undine are simply manipulating powers across the Beta Quadrant for all out war, in the first episode you will fail in proving this the Klingons and Cardassians. Then in the second when Starfleet declares Neutrality. You go on the hunt for spys, surley the Tal'Shiar and Section-31 have some information!
With the some of the ships you turned on in the previous choice tracking you... you think they could be being manipulated but turns out it was just a Ship Commander out for blood.

ooh ooh, I'll have it so there is a moment in the Ferengi Casino Ship that you are left alone, trapped in a room, as your crew free you, you come to stating you were hit on the head, you shrug it of as an assault by a criminal, but was actually an Undine nicking your D.N.A, then in the sequel episode when you go on a witch hunt across the Galaxy, Undine agents are keeping the Player busy so that the Undine in your mission can have free rain.
Then at the end of my second one you confront an Undine trying to convince another Starfleet ship that the player is the infiltrator... then another choice; Do you destroy the attacking Federation Ship with the Undine infiltrator or do you convince them otherwise and the Undine escaping!? the choice at the end of my second episode will effect the beginning of yours!

Hmm... im going to need to explain why the Undine also have a perfect replica of your ship.. but as every ship appears to be falling into the others hands.. we'll go with.. the lockbox approach.. or they stole another ship of the same class and began to augment it acordingly.

Or I modify my story, After the player those their bit at the Casino Ship their ship goes missing along with the crew (Undine spy copied player and nicked it).
so you have to steal and use a Ferengi ship instead to confront the Commodore.
then in the next episode the players ship is located adrift in a gas giants dense layers. you go onboard, the crew are knocked out and the Undine missing. From there I can have various spy networks try to salvage the ship but you fight them off and get answers from them about 'what they know'!?

Wow, so this thread certainly moved quickly. It's only been about a day since I first posted and there are already four pages worth of new posts...I'll have to make sure I don't fall behind on checking it.
So, I'm on the site, registered as VexRavus (just to avoid too much confusion). I'll get to posting ideas for the Cardassians just as soon as I have some. Once I know what the start of this story line is and what some of you are doing with it I'll be on better footing to come up with something.
Noticed some of you have already posted in your sections of the forum, I'm going to read through those in a minute. What I've read here sounds interesting, should be a good project. I just hope I don't run out of Foundry mission slots (I still wish they'd sell those in the C-store...).
I must say, I am tremendously excited to begin work on this project (once my Foundry Challenge #6 is completed, or in the worst case, abandoned).
I've always loved the way the Dominion works, and I look forward to creating an integral section of a fantastic storyline with fantastic Foundry authors.

Well in mine the Undine are simply manipulating powers across the Beta Quadrant for all out war, in the first episode you will fail in proving this the Klingons and Cardassians. Then in the second when Starfleet declares Neutrality. You go on the hunt for spys, surley the Tal'Shiar and Section-31 have some information!
With the some of the ships you turned on in the previous choice tracking you... you think they could be being manipulated but turns out it was just a Ship Commander out for blood.
I got the game for xbox mate, it isn't bad at all, probally the best Alien genre game yet.

My one will go along the lines of...
Reading through the reports from the Romulans, Starfleet and Klingons, Commander Sheeba has concluded every race from the alpha/beta quadrant and Fluidic space are being manipulated by an outside force, unable to gather any solid information the Undine abduct the <player>. Creating a bipedal duplicate of the <player> and his/her crew, the Undine then send you <the replica> to Iconia.
ooh ooh, I'll have it so there is a moment in the Ferengi Casino Ship that you are left alone, trapped in a room, as your crew free you, you come to stating you were hit on the head, you shrug it of as an assault by a criminal, but was actually an Undine nicking your D.N.A, then in the sequel episode when you go on a witch hunt across the Galaxy, Undine agents are keeping the Player busy so that the Undine in your mission can have free rain.
Then at the end of my second one you confront an Undine trying to convince another Starfleet ship that the player is the infiltrator... then another choice; Do you destroy the attacking Federation Ship with the Undine infiltrator or do you convince them otherwise and the Undine escaping!? the choice at the end of my second episode will effect the beginning of yours!

Or I modify my story, After the player those their bit at the Casino Ship their ship goes missing along with the crew (Undine spy copied player and nicked it).
so you have to steal and use a Ferengi ship instead to confront the Commodore.
then in the next episode the players ship is located adrift in a gas giants dense layers. you go onboard, the crew are knocked out and the Undine missing. From there I can have various spy networks try to salvage the ship but you fight them off and get answers from them about 'what they know'!?

So, I'm on the site, registered as VexRavus (just to avoid too much confusion). I'll get to posting ideas for the Cardassians just as soon as I have some. Once I know what the start of this story line is and what some of you are doing with it I'll be on better footing to come up with something.
Noticed some of you have already posted in your sections of the forum, I'm going to read through those in a minute. What I've read here sounds interesting, should be a good project. I just hope I don't run out of Foundry mission slots (I still wish they'd sell those in the C-store...).
