So, is the Tour practical at Lt Commander? I don't need to make 3-4 turns, but is it worth my time?
It's fun for all ages!
You'll at least make 350K doing the entire run, you can make 1M EC+ once you get better at it.
Seriously, anyone can do it. It's a nice way to earn EC and learn about planning, your ship components that will give you the best advantage and you also learn about the advantage of the Diplomatic ranks.
Regardless of your ship, components and rank, you will earn EC. You just need to make the run; you don't need to make the entire route though, certain sectors that earn you more. So you will need to research this read STOwiki and the forum threads.

Also there is a chat channel to help people, I think it's called therace or something simple like that. Very nice guys in there.
That said, I'm hopelessly incompetent at the tour, so have given up on it completely. I sell stuff to make my money.

Thanks, both of you. I'll give it a whirl tonight and see what happens. I assume there are sectors I just can't get to as a Lt Cmdr without diplomatic immunity...but I'll research that.

Really? I've done that run recently with my lvl 17 (Lt. Cmdr.). I got maybe a couple thousand EC... Certainly not enough to push my balance from 70ish k to 80ish k EC. That's pretty pathetic for about 20-30 minutes of work. Admittedly I probably sucked at it since it was my first tour but still...
You can get more than that doing... pretty much anything else: The daily borg mission out of K-7, the Starbase 24 thing, exploration cluster or patrol missions on advanced...
Great! Only three left. Now all I need is for one of them to leave the room and then there will be only one left...
Wait, where I come from three minus one still leaves two!
Where I come from is a far more interesting place.
do foundry missions until u hit the cap on items. i recomand to do the Battleship Royal Rumble, and also do the investigation quest when u do the foundry for extra dilithium and fleet marks.
doffs assigments for mk xii consoles but the chance is very low i really don't recomand it. i think is better to sell the artefact to exchange.
do starbase 24, gorn minefield action and other instances like this but u have to get in the 1st place for better reward. in gorn u get mk xi purple and in starbase u get mk xii, but it's easier to be the one in gorn.
also if u don't need fleet credit u can buy common tactical duty officers and sell them in exchange. but usually u want to use your fleet credit on advanced gear and for ships.
buy cheap sell higher, but this is tricky.
buy keys and fleet duty officers packs and sell them for ec.
in stf space elite u can get purple weapons mk xii that are very expansive. some of them are even 3mil, but the drop is really low ofcourse.
farming rare particle trace. they are pretty expansive but the time that u need to get them is high as well.
another tip is that u do the confiscate the contraband assigment every time that u can do it and sell the contraband in the exchange for like 50k each.
the tour is good way to farm ec. i personally don't do it 'cuz it's too borring... i like to shoot or send people to die in dof's assigments ) but it gives you garanted money without drop chance and other things like that.
ps: the most important currency is the dilithium. you should farm your cap and if ouy have extra time try to do it with your alts. more dilithium=more zen/better gear - purple mk xii sets. plus u need dilithium for your fleet to.
i hope this will help u. goodluck and have fun!
ps: foundry missions will not give FM anymore. they removed this with the today's patch

Well, if this is the case...I don't want to just completely waste my time. Is it an issue of sectors/blocks we simply can not get to at LtCmdr?

I don't think it is. When you get the mission at my/our level it will not even send you to those sectors. IIRC I needed to visit the left Klingon block, all Federation blocks and all but the bottom most Romulan block.
I've read up on it on the wiki and it seems to be because the rewards of the mission are scaled to your level. But still 1k? vs 50k seems like a disproportionate scaling.
I don't want to discourage you from trying though. It would be nice to have confirmation, and if you plan the tour in advance it should also take you less time. Also it's generally pretty easy work and you can browse DOff assignments while cruising around. So it's not all bad.
I should be able to make captain this weekend and hopefully have time to try again.

Borg engines, Raiding Party and Diplomatic Immunity (normally from people around Wolf 359), Purple Astrometrics Doff
After getting the Tour from the chap in the club
Leave Sol space and head for beta Urse
As soon as you transfer to Beta do a quick instance swap and you will be at the far end
From there head up to Orellis and complete there and hang a right into Eta Erandi space
go through EE as quick as you can and head to Omega Leonis and through the Klingon Gate to Borg space
When in Borg space head for the very centre point, by going through the very centre it hits all 4 sections and head straight for Fluidic space
When there you can head back to Sol via transwarp (should be on a 4-5minute timer with a purple astrometrics) - if not just before the tour get the stranded in spae assignment - it takes you just outside of sol for 100ec and reverse to sol
End the tour mission and get it again - repeat every 5 or so minutes for 200k per run
This all works great... additionally as soon as you get to EE, switch to a different instance - this'll take you to the middle of EE in Donatu!, turn about 90 deg right/east and continue on to the Klingon border. If you don't have Diplomatic Immunity granted to you, continue to Archanis sector, change instance, turn 90 degrees left/west and go to Sirius Sector block and under the Transwarp conduit to enter Borg space.
P.S. Thanks to all of you that are generous enough to be granting Diplomatic Immunity to their fellow players! I am working my way up the Diplo. ranks and will do the same for others when I get there!

That's all your getting?! You should be getting much more than that! EC's are allotted to you as soon as you pass through ALL the sectors in each block that is specified in the mission.
To start, look at STOwiki.org, search for Mission: Tour the Galaxy, read the Notes too. Read through some of the suggestions in this thread, it'll help. Some blocks gain you more EC than others.

Curious... I will try this with my Lt. Commander alt and see what happens.

Well I can say now that lower rank characters to not get the same amount to EC during the Tour. Looked at STOWiki again but not mention of a scale of any kind. If you are not getting enough EC, sell drops on the Exchange until you rank up more.
I attempted to do the Tour with my Commander character but the Tour ended before I could finish a sector block.

I always thought the rewards scaled based on rank and the path you had to travel depended upon whether you were high enough level to have missions in that sector:
Lt. Com was everything in the Klingon Front. Commander was that plus the Romulan sectors. Captain included Cardassia, etc. No way you could get the whole map without something like Borg engines or slipstream...
I only ever ran it once many moons ago. So I may be incorrect.
