Hi Foundry authors,
TEASER
I would like to create a new series "
Dark Frontiers", but one with a slight twist to it.
Let me start by introducing the concept.
First off, in order to design a truly epic arc I am looking at this point to "recruit" eager authors that would be interested in collaborating with me.
What I would like to do is have each of the authors adopt a faction whose story line they will endeavor to bring to the fore. They will have 100% autonomy of decision in regards to their story or how their faction would respond to events.
Now, while I understand that the authors would be unable to create true factional story as there are only two playable factions in the game. Although the primary story line will still focus on the U.F.P and the Klingon Empire, the story told will be from the perspective of the faction they represent.
The factions represented will be:
United Federation of Planets (
rickysmith1)
Klingon Empire (
drkfrontiers)
Dominion (
stardestroyer001)
Cardassian (
vexravus)
Romulans (
markhawkman)
Borg (
heissenburg)
Ferengi (
fu11ofstars)
Undine (
rickysmith1)
Ask'kaar Republic (
thay8472)
Tholians (
sethpower121)
(
Depending on the response, I am also open to your own faction you would like to use e.g. Vulcan, Andorian, Marquis)
Once I have found willing authors to fill the above, I will begin the story from Qo'noS (my home town!)
Each author when then respond to my mission with their own, or they could engage with each other's story lines, thus creating an intricate and connected series on ongoing stories.
A
very interesting suggestion was made
here (pendra3780)
Requirements:
- The heroes of your faction will either be U.F.P or Klingon Empire
- The "villians/ or heroes" of the faction you represent will be their opponents. So try not to kill off the cast in the first mission
- The only real limitation is that these two groups of characters become iconic representations throughout the series much like in the shows, that need to be properly conveyed through the other authors content.
I really hope that I will receive a positive response
I would also be looking to members of the community that enjoy creating trailers to really show their story telling skills
I have created a site where we can brainstorm -
Persistent Foundry. All are welcome!
Cheers
@drkfrontiers
Comments
Also all of my applications in the Foundry Contests have been in the top 3 so far.
I don't have many trailers at the moment but I have two in development along with my own Series I am hoping to release all at once by the end of the year.
If I may, I have a smart idea for the UFP Faction, as there is an ample supply of Foundry and in-game content... I could take a 'unique' approach at it.
Episode Four - Head Of A Needle Episode Five: The Duality of Men Episode Six - Redemption Earned
Episode Seven - Shattered Universe Episode Eight - The Gepetto Condition Episode Nine - One Room, Two Officers
Episode Ten - Beyond The Farthest Star Episode Eleven - It's OK, It Won't Hurt Episode Twelve - A Protracted Officer
Episode Thirteen - Somewhen Episode Fourteen - The Boy Who Lived Episode Fifthteen - Empathy
One down - Welcome on board mate!
As soon as we have all the folks involved, I will create us a collaboration site
Sweet, I'll P.M you my 'unique' idea, see if you like it... what sort of story were you thinking of? An enemy fought by many races across different time frames like in the Invasion Novels> Or will we just make it up as a team?
Oh, DIBS ON UFP lol
Episode Four - Head Of A Needle Episode Five: The Duality of Men Episode Six - Redemption Earned
Episode Seven - Shattered Universe Episode Eight - The Gepetto Condition Episode Nine - One Room, Two Officers
Episode Ten - Beyond The Farthest Star Episode Eleven - It's OK, It Won't Hurt Episode Twelve - A Protracted Officer
Episode Thirteen - Somewhen Episode Fourteen - The Boy Who Lived Episode Fifthteen - Empathy
Glad to see you excited. And yes, we will collaborate on the overall initial setting and base story line, but each author will determine where his/ her part of the story leads
My character Tsin'xing
Awesome! Good to have you with us - Jolan Tru!
However I would like to volunteer for the Undine arc.
Interactive, persistent colonization missions
A set of short or not that short missions based around a foundation of a colony. Starting from planetary survey, through colonist selection to finally creating a self sustaining colony.
Lets say, the players have to survey 3 planets. They collect samples, fight wildlife whatever. At the end of the mission, you ask them to vote on "Establishing a colony on planet A, B or C" in the mission review. After a few weeks, you sum the votes and continue the story with the planet that has the most votes. Then you select the colonists. Interview group A, group B and group C. Throw in some story or mission too to make it interesting. Then the players can vote on which colonist group to send. Next mission, what buildings to build etc...
I think you got the idea.
It is interactive, because the players make the hard choice, you just follow up with the story. And persistent because you can always visit the colony that was built on or around the collective ideas of the captains. Just bring up the final mission in the foundry and revisit the colony. Maybe add in a memorial plaque like captains who helped to shape our beloved colony: and a few names who voted on all the steps taken. And it is not just voting, the captains may suggest a name for the colony, or maybe something else that would make a good story element. Also you can even make a bad ending, like if the players picked a vulcanic planet, and sent a bunch of scientists to make an farming colony and then decided against placing an orbital power plant in fear of pollution.
And when the chain is done, you can retire the old missions (except the final colony) and start a new one with the same or similar steps.
Mini Romulan or Cardassian factions
Now we desing missions for Feds and Klinks. Why don't we make missions for Romulans, for example? Klingon K7s were used by Romulans. I know Feds don't really have any playable Romulan ship, but maybe say that the ship is a salvage. Or who knows, maybe someone mods a Fed ship to look like a D'Deridex just for that.
So anyway, it would play from start to the end as a Romulan or Cardassian mission. No, you are not an undercover masked Fed captain, but the real thing.
Just pure Romulan missions with spies, Tal'shiar, Remans, Treachery... I think that would be something I would make an all Alien-masked-as-Romulan crew for.

That would be fantastic! The Undine need their story told. Welcome!
I LOVE this - Yes! Yes! Yes!
So if I am understanding you correctly. We create choices that players make about events, that play out and come to realization in the following episodes?
Or, whether or not they decide to go to war?
The review system would be perfect for this.
I really like this. Just thinking of the kinds of mini-strategy components we could introduce in the missions.
For example.
The Klingon Empire decides to send a new task force against the Borg. In the mission at the end, the player is asked whether they want to build an military outpost in one of the sectors, or an ship yard.
Say they choose in their review the outpost, then the next mission asks them for the location.
The third mission you get to visit the outpost, and because of that earn in some of the future ground missions a level 1 friendly spawn group. As the game progress the level of the spawns can be increase and improved on?
Commander Sheeba
A clan of Undine lead by Sheeba (another Undine).. Sheeba's faction are noted for their red tinted armour.
City of the Undine
A undine constructed city on a planetoid.
Offspring
While watching Prometheus I thought... "hmmm what would happen if a Undine infiltrator got X person pregnant?"
The Truth
A faction of Undine is willing to listen to any evidence you have regarding the Iconions using the Undine to attack the galaxy.
Offspring #2
A mature undine that developed inside the womb of a Bajoran (note the Red skin)
I really like that City of the Undine. A lot of potential to explore in all.
I get the idea for having a place to explore and grow and each time people make a suggestion we delete the old and bring in the new... but it could make Advertising difficult and we are limited to the size/amount of objects on each map.
Couldn't we just do a long series, each episode decided by the comments/choices made in the previous?
Episode Four - Head Of A Needle Episode Five: The Duality of Men Episode Six - Redemption Earned
Episode Seven - Shattered Universe Episode Eight - The Gepetto Condition Episode Nine - One Room, Two Officers
Episode Ten - Beyond The Farthest Star Episode Eleven - It's OK, It Won't Hurt Episode Twelve - A Protracted Officer
Episode Thirteen - Somewhen Episode Fourteen - The Boy Who Lived Episode Fifthteen - Empathy
I'd like to know more about the basic idea behind the persistent story being developed before I say that I'm in for sure, but I would be interested in looking at it from the perspective of the Collective (eiter the renegade group Lore took over for a time, or the proper collective struggling against the advances of the Omega Taskforce).
To be fare it's the Omega Task Force thats struggling. They are trying their best to keep the Gateway position a secret and their ships keep getting picked off lol
Episode Four - Head Of A Needle Episode Five: The Duality of Men Episode Six - Redemption Earned
Episode Seven - Shattered Universe Episode Eight - The Gepetto Condition Episode Nine - One Room, Two Officers
Episode Ten - Beyond The Farthest Star Episode Eleven - It's OK, It Won't Hurt Episode Twelve - A Protracted Officer
Episode Thirteen - Somewhen Episode Fourteen - The Boy Who Lived Episode Fifthteen - Empathy
That just gives me a more focused directive behind any story telling I might do with them, and a potential reason for them to attempt some sort of guile.
Still, I'm not sure the team wants a complete amateur on board. I'll see if I can finish either of my current projects soon so that you guys have a general idea of the level I'm at and can decide if you'd want me on board for something like this.
I don't want to go into the Klingon side of things yet as I have not quite ready.
But here is a brief synopsis of what I am intending to do:
(This is just a example.)
Sample Plot.
Dark Frontiers, "The Long Road": The Klingons have never really recovered from the loss of Praxis, though they would never openly admit to it. Given the resurgence of friendly relations between the Federation and Romulans, Chancellor J'mpok has been convinced that he is being left out of the spoils of war. While the Federation's backs are turned the Klingon launch a major offensive against the unaligned Cardassian worlds, far removed from the aid of the Federation.
Once I have defined the plot I will mail the other authors the overall story line, including locations and characters. I will also share the costumes files with them.
Each author must then decide what would their factions response be to these events. If the author is a Klingon player, and he represents the Cardassians he may design a story line called Dark Frontiers, "The Hibetian Files" around how the Marquis hear about the impeding invasion and send a agent to warn the Cardassians.
The player writing for the Federation may design a story line called Dark Frontiers, "Sole Survivor" around how the Romulan Ambassador receives word of the Klingon plans and arranges for a Starfleet Captain to investigate.
And so on.
Then each of the authors publish their 1st mission and each mission immediately becomes superimposed over a much larger story line. Once the first arc is live, the authors will then take the combined stories and decide what the second mission entails, in response to another players 1st mission eg.
The player representing the Undine writes a fantastic first story slightly removed from the main story called Dark Frontiers, "The City of the Undine", but still referencing the main plot. e.g The Undine learn of the Klingon Plans, and decide to secretly start planting agents throughout the Alpha Quadrant.
Now in the second mission, the Federation player opts to repond to the Undine presence, and so while still running with the main story line e.g Klingon- aggression vs. Cardassians, he/ she opens a new side arc in which he sends a task force to investigate the Undine threat.
I hope this all makes sense. The use of the "Dark Frontiers" in all the titles is to allow people identification with the missions, and well - because its my idea Woot!
The intention is to create an ongoing "show" - one in which the story continually grows, and one in which all authors stories are equally important. Even the authors of grinders will be welcome as they are asked to create famous battles
I would also offer to create a branding trailer for the overall series, and one for each of the authors that is unfamiliar with the process.
All are welcome at my table, always.
"bla bla bla tibble bomb kills millions on planet T"
Then for whatever faction we picked we have to do a story on how X faction would handle said situation?
Perfect
Its kind of like a Foundry version of Dungeons and Dragons for no better word.
Or those it sort of go YOU - reviews - ME - Reviews - ROMULANS - Reviews - BORG... etc?
Episode Four - Head Of A Needle Episode Five: The Duality of Men Episode Six - Redemption Earned
Episode Seven - Shattered Universe Episode Eight - The Gepetto Condition Episode Nine - One Room, Two Officers
Episode Ten - Beyond The Farthest Star Episode Eleven - It's OK, It Won't Hurt Episode Twelve - A Protracted Officer
Episode Thirteen - Somewhen Episode Fourteen - The Boy Who Lived Episode Fifthteen - Empathy
now depending on the galaxy wide incident... could I do something where the player takes on the role of the Undine infiltrator disguised as the player (assuming I can come up with a good cover story for where the player is) or would you prefere the player to be the player?
I will create my mission. Then send it to authors for not for review per say, but so their have context for their own story. Of course we can help one another out
I published the first mission.
The authors then create their mission based on what their faction does in response to what the Klingons do.
Each author then publishes their mission.
Group meeting then takes place in which we share ideas of where the story goes from there. We workshop together.
All the authors then decide on their next factions move or decision.
And so the story line grows and grows.
That is the beauty of your story You are 100% free to come up with your own ideas, so long as it fits into the overall theme and naturally makes sense. e.g The Undine throw a peace rally outside Sol would be frowned upon
peace? after you swines keep ignoring our keep out of fluidic space signs?!
LMAO - this. I hope you bring this to the story. You know what I mean.
e.g; In UFP the Player goes to Drozana to question a Ferengi, then in the Cardassian mission the Player turns up a minute after the UFP Captain left and interrogates the Ferengi... BOOM, simple humour (Humor in USA).
LMAO
Episode Four - Head Of A Needle Episode Five: The Duality of Men Episode Six - Redemption Earned
Episode Seven - Shattered Universe Episode Eight - The Gepetto Condition Episode Nine - One Room, Two Officers
Episode Ten - Beyond The Farthest Star Episode Eleven - It's OK, It Won't Hurt Episode Twelve - A Protracted Officer
Episode Thirteen - Somewhen Episode Fourteen - The Boy Who Lived Episode Fifthteen - Empathy
Absolutely. I will also be creating a website for it and should be ready by end of next week
Each faction will have their own section.
In regards to your post - Laurel and Hardy did it all the time with great success I might add.
I might have to play around with the costume editor to see if it is possible to customize Borg drones at all, though I suspect it will not be.
Using the example for the moment:
The klingons lauch an offensive into Cardassian space. After sending a couple spheres to investigate, they begin assimilating an abandoned mining facitility with the intention of opening a new conduit into the Alpha Quadrant behind the distraction of the klingon offensive. Part way into the construction a damage Klingon ship happens upon the base looking to salvage parts to repair themselves and get back into the fight.
Could be played from the Klingon side looking for a lost ship or from the Federation side poking their nose into the conflict only to find more than they expected.
These are my first thoughts upon seeing the example story.
