As you may have seen, there is a login queue at this time due to the amount of players wanting to jump in to play. Gold members (LTS/ Monthly Sub) still have priority, per the F2P matrix, and are let in first. All players are getting in after a short wait. Thanks for your patience and understanding.
What are you complaining about, A que means the game is doing good and has players playing, would you like to have it where there is 0 players online and just you?
Good luck doing that stf mission then lol

Actually it just means the same as every other time new content launches...
That people are coming into the game, to check out changes and get free stuff, then be gone again in 2 weeks.
No big deal either... Its the same pattern every time new content with time limited rewards is released.
Don't look silly... Don't call it the "Z-Store/Zen Store"...

It's the same in all MMOs though, including the two 700lb gorillas in the room.
If they were releasing new content on this level with free ships and weren't getting old players coming back to play it even if it is just for the two weeks, then I'd be worried.
You do realize EVE Online uses dirty tricks to handle 3,000 players in one region, and TiDi slows down time in that shard so that every single player's running the game at around 10 or less frames per second, making 3,000 player battles baely playable, right?
This means MORE people are playing STO, which means the game's healthy, relatively speaking. More people playing means we get to see more content down the road. Be happy we got full servers. Be patient and wait a bit.
Took about five seconds for it to pop me in at that point.

I'm guessing you haven't seen the 18 minute video of that battle in all it's seamless glory? STO's servers can't even think about handling anything of that magnitude without weeping in a corner uncontrollably.
It means there are more people logging into the servers than they can handle, which you might think is a 'good thing' but they haven't done anything to improve the matter since the new patch launched Thursday - we are still seeing the same issue here on Sunday, with even less people.

The 2 videos I've seen on the web have actually been sped up, because TiDi crawled time to 10% of normal speed. Seriously.
there has been a queue for a week.
Fun fact: No queue for Season 7 or 6. No queue for the winter stuff and free breen ship. But a queue for a new episode.

No. Whenever cryptic would release a new episode the queue's got full. Been like that since release.
I remember in the romulan series you couldn't play it for about a day.
What bugs me is you enter a que just for switching characters, wtf.
I am already logged in ******nit.
That is a little annoying indeed.
This program, though reasonably normal at times, seems to have a strong affinity to classes belonging to the Cat 2.0 program. Questerius 2.7 will break down on occasion, resulting in garbage and nonsense messages whenever it occurs. Usually a hard reboot or pulling the plug solves the problem when that happens.
Wow...just read about the Eve battle. That's basically World War I, with all of those crazy alliances!
Glad we don't have such nasty fleet-vs.-fleet politics here on STO.

Please explain the relation between load balancing and load capacity. They appear to be two completely different concepts.
Server A can handle up to 1000 players logged concurrently, and up to 700 in any instanced location.
Server B can handle up to 5000 players logged concurrently, but only 200 in any instanced map.
The fact that Server A can handle more players on a given map fighting has NOTHING TO DO AT ALL with the fact that if 2000 people try to log in at the same time there will be a queue.
If you're going to bash something, please read your own article. They refer to time-compression, crashing people off the server as they move nodes and other stuff that would TRIBBLE the rest of us off, because some moron can't figure out where to move.
EVE has login queues from time to time after popular content releases, as well.
I really don't think you want to see STO changed so that sometimes there can be so many people online that it takes you five minutes to switch targets. That works in EVE, but this is a completely different kind of game.

As a lifer, I have only experienced a queue (very short, few seconds) four times, twice during the roll out of this anniversary event. Honestly, I wouldn't mind seeing that short queue message pop up more often, as it would mean the game is having more captains log in more regularly. I have a feeling that once they finally get the KDF fully fleshed out as a faction, and release the Rommies as a full faction (rumored, but hopefully!) we will see many more queues for login.
They make a wondrous mess of things. Brave amateurs, they do their part.

1) Those EVE videos were sped up to handle their 'time-dilation' (read step down server response so said sever can handle the load) - leave it to CCP to call reducing response and FPS to handle large instances a feature'.
2) If STO were ONLY space based - had click to orbit combat - and had HUGE maps with next to no extra objects in them; and low polygon ships and textures (like EvE does); you might have an argument. Hell, CCP announced 'Walking in Stations' in 2006 as 'coming soon' - finally implemented a players 'Captains Quarters' in 2011 (5 years later) which allowed a single player to walk around in a very small space (could even invite others into it -- but did it so poorly, players demanded a feature to disable it - so they could go back to ship spinning.
3) They have been tweaking the servers to handle more players - we're had 3 scheduled downtimes since the patch to address just that.
4) How do you know we have less people trying to access the game this weekend, then last Thursday. Please post a copy of the app you use to determine that as I'd love to be able to keep track of the STO concurrent player server load.

It's funny to see everyone claim that the que means more people are playing the game and that it is a sign of doing well.
You never considered that PWE has reduced the amount of server support provided for the game in an effort to save money through the F2P transition? ... Fairly likely if you ask me.
Without any comparison to actual server capacity the que means nothing. There is no que to play GW2 for example and it has orders or magnitudes more players than STO.
The que means only STO does not provide enough server capacity for all the players, nothing more.

Extremely unlikely.
The entire purpose of F2P is to get as many people in the door as possible because maybe 1 percent of them is going to buy an idiotic lockbox.
The more people in the door = more money.
PW is the king of F2P/P2W.
So, two options: The people who run PWE and there shareholders all at the exact same time experience brain trauma in tens of thousands of separate cases and started doing stuff that wouldn't make them money like reducing server support
Or more likely that there is more people playing.

And you choose the first option?
If no matter what, in all cases, it was more financially beneficial to get "people in the door" as you say, then they would have ensured that they always have sufficient server space to get people directly logged on.
Obviously, with the ques we see, they do not. So at some point the decision was made that it was OK to not provide enough server capacity to provide for all the players.
In fact, the mere existence of a que system and a purchasable feature to be placed at the front of such a que proves that they were aware and accepted this as a reality.
So, do I think they accept a situation where server capacity is less than demand? Well it dosn't really matter what I think... it is a proven fact of the situation we find ourselves in. but "tens of thousands of of separate cases" of brain trauma was rather dramatic I'll give you that.

Actually, this is false since we've increased "server support" But, for someone who may not understand how game servers work and why there are queues in place, I could understand where there might be confusion. Ultimately, there are more players playing STO than ever before.

Please explain what magic GW2 or WoW or other AAA titles use to support far more players than STO does at once if it is not the fact that they have more "server support."

Players are split up onto different servers (as in you have to pick a server) in those games, I understand, right? For instance, I also occasionally play League of Legends, the number one played game in the world, and I run into queues there pretty often. Without giving away confidential information, I still stand behind the fact that your post is false

Might as well play something else until this event ends and things calm down.
