I am Loving the Ambassador Class Ship. I think it is the most balanced ship in the game that is good for Tac, Eng, and Sci captains alike. The BOFF layout is great with the the LT, and Commander Eng Boff slots, LT Commander slot, and LT / Ensign Tac slot, eventhough I would prefer a Lt Commander Tac and dump the Ensign just to get the better offensive powers and manuvers. The three Tac consoles has been what all cruisers needed from day one. It adds a little bite to the beams.
Thanks, Devs.:-)
Now, there needs to be something done about the Galaxy. Its a shame it's predecessors, Excelsior and Ambassador, has better boff slots and a 3 weapon consoles. The Fleet Galaxy don't need another Eng console. It needs another weapon console to give it bite to keep up with the rest of the canon cruisers.

Well what you described is basically an Excelsior (and the Fleet Excel has 4 x Tac slots) - I agree though - for a free ship the Ambassador is very nice and offers an interesting opportunity to tinker with some higher lever Sci skills irrespective of your Captain's career.
I actually prefer the Ambassador to the Chel Grett despite that ship having (on paper) superior specs.
I was surprised at how good the Ambassador is doing for me, I underestimated it. It does pretty decent DPS with an aux2bat build and tac captain, and having 3 sci abilities is nice, so you can still have 2 sci heals and another ability like tractor.
Definitely will be getting a z-store or fleet version of this ship that gets 10 console slots and increased hull/shields.
As I said in another thread i'm happy with my Ambassador retrofit. I was able to take and hold the aggro from a Tactical Cube in an elite STF with it while the rest of my PuG killed the cube. I was never able to tank a tactical cube in my Assault Class ship. Usually the cube would hit me with those cheat weapons and knock my shields out with one hit, and one hit kill me before the cool downs would let me activate my next tank power, or i'd have to drift in and out of weapons range to stay alive while my cool downs are activated.
Yes there is something very special about this ship. I cant seem to put it down. She's not too big..not too small and having Ltc Sci boff slots on a cruiser strangely works. Same with the KDF ship two weird ships that are fun to fly...for free
Fun little ship. Kinda wish the ensign were universal or science to be like a counterpart to the Regent, and of course another sci console wouldn't hurt (maybe fleet version) but overall I'm surprised by the performance. Kewl.
As for the OP mentioning the Galaxy, heck just put the ensign universal and make the console layoute 4/3/3 and that would drop it right back into the thick of things.
Last night I particpated one of the hourly Borg Invasion events within the Sirius Sector with my level 23 Engineer flying his Ambassador.
Also "responding" to the "red alert" alarm were 4 other players... ALL of them, ALSO flying an Ambassador, each of various and random level ranges.
5 Ambassadors'.
I will also admit that there was 1 Vanguard Star Cruiser in attendance but he was sluggish compared to the Ambassadors'.
We tore through the sphere's and cubes in no time and triggered the Unimatrix...
Then we showed the Unimatrix why it should not TRIBBLE around with the Ambassador Class!
5 Ambassadors'... all running broadside attacks and the occassional head-on assaults...
Unimatrix went boom within the first 3 minutes of it spawning.
I do not know what equipment the other players were using in their ships, but I know all of mine is nothing special... mostly random Mk IV, V, VI items of various quality from common to uncommon, and 4 blue rare MK VI phaser beam arrays with 2 MK V common quantum torp launchers.... as I said, nothing special...
Yet my Ambassador seemed to just absorb the damage and kept on going! I saw another guy whose shields were nearly gone, so I hit extend shields on him and his quickly regenerated as he came around for another broadside pass and then took out the 3 'probes' that were chasing him.
I will admit a few players, including me, were destroyed at least once by the Unimatrix.. but I noted how in each case, the Ambassador recovered quick, and returned to the foray to continue in the borg butt kicking...
Now sure, I know destroying the Unimatrix in under 3 minutes is no big deal these days. But usually I don't see a fight like that unless I'm playing my level 50 Tac Cap flying his Steamrunner Retrofit or his Armitage and I'm in an area where lower level players are not as common and those responding to the borg invasion are usually more high level players.
So I was rather very impressed to see 5 Ambassador Class cruisers, all various level ranges, taking out a Unimatrix in under 3 minutes, and in the newbie sector of all places!
I'm sure maybe a couple of those players wee high level players using their Retrofit Ambassadors'; plus that Vanguard with us... so yes I will say there was probably some heavy firepower in our favor. But the fact remains, that those 5 Ambassador ships just took a beating yet kept on going and tanked the heck out of that Unimatrix!
Now I am thinking about making a Klingon Engineer just to try out that Kamarag! Got one on my lvl 50 Tac Klink, but I think an Engineer would benefit the most from it!
And, I read yesterday that one of the ships will disappear after the even is over. Is this true or will we be able to keep both ships?
When the event is over, you'll still be able to do the mission, and the mission will still reward the Tier 3 Ambassador cruiser. The Retrofit will only be available as a reward during the event, though.
If you already have the ship, it won't be taken away from you.
I was thinking it was a reskin of the Excelsior retrofit myself...mine is loaded with single cannons and turrets!!
@Roman Only the T5 is limited time only during the three year anniversary. That being said, I am sure inevitably it will be available as a fleet ship.
I have to admit, I love this ship. Managed to hold my own in an Elite STF yesterday protecting the time gate from the Borg by myself whilst protecting the left side. Only other cruiser that ever came close to doing this was the Excelsior. So really this is a great addition and a much better looking ship than I thought it would be to be honest.
A keeper!!

I've been very pleased with it, although its utility as an aux2bat cruiser for a Tac Captain isn't all that compared to the Excelsior or Galor, it's a fantastic heal barge, but not one that lacks teeth.
I'm also using the Nadeon detonator for the moment as involving photons feels "right". It's a very capable healer, I made it possible for some escorts to take liberties they normally never could have done on Hive Onslaught, and managed to weather the storm of incoming fire quite nicely.
The turn rate isn't exactly stellar, compared to the Galor, Vor'cha or Excelsior I normally fly it can be a little ponderous, but it manages anyhow.
All in all, I agree that this is one of the best balanced new ships released, and the cherry on top of a cake baked mostly from "awesome mission". I wasn't that enthusiastic about the 'Bassy before, but I've fallen for it like a fool. And it looks damn fine in MACO colours too! Just out of interest, what're people calling theirs? Mine's the USS Wellington on my Eng, and my Tac who's admittedly unlikely to be permenantly posted to one, is in the USS Waterloo.

This ship (T5) has a turn rate of 7 whilst the excelsior has one of 8. I have both equipped with Cannons onlu up front and see little difference in the two, except that perhaps at the moment the Ambassador feels fairly over powered which I am sure will be nerfed (unfortunately) eventually.

I like it to its turns rate is great but my shields seem do die very easly maybe I should use the jem hedar shields what does every one else think is best shields thats not covariant??? or borg?/

MACO Shields are the best shields as recommended by everyone. Either them or the Elite Fleet ones.
I have to say she does seem to be a little special. For my story, I had the retrofit selected and was messing with colors and materials. Assuming she'd be dumped in my garage until the possible admiral thing pops up where you can use the accumulated ships you don't often fly.
Anywho, I got distracted and forgot I had her selected as my main ship. Queued up for an elite stf, thinking I was in my oddy, and joined one. No consoles, using only the basic equipment it came with. After scrambling to assign Boffs I lept i with everyone else.
She took a beating. I think she was at 20% hull most of the time (thanks to having threat control for a skill), but she kept up with the others there. Pulling out as many tricks as I could I only died twice and managed to fall in love with this odd little ship from yesterday.
I am quite surprised. Without threat control or threat mod consoles, I can take and hold aggro away from Escorts in this thing. I want a T5 version with 4 tac consoles already. And a Connie-esque drivetrain.
After flying the Ambassador, I can totally see why people are upset about the Galaxy.
The Ambassador is a good ship. Manueverable enough to be functional in a fight, sturdy enough to hang in if things go south, and it has the extra bite of the trifecta Tac consoles.
The Galaxy needs some TLC after this for sure. At least another Tac console, if not a bump to manueverability as well.
When I first read the stats on the Ambassador, I was thinking that 7 deg/sec turnrate would make it a slug like the Galaxy. But somehow Cryptic managed to balance it in such a way, that at the very least it doesn't feel like a slug.

Why would they give us a ship then take it away? That never happened before. When the event is over it means, you can't get the ship for free and the may start selling it C-store.

I will be getting one for at least tree of my tunes. Each tune has a diferent primary ship. One is the Galaxy Dreadnought, a Galaxy Retrofit, and the last guy the Ambassador. I have two T5 Ambassadors so far. One name USS Warhammer, and the other USS Excalibur named after the Ambassador Class that survived the borg attack and and was temporarily commanded by Cammander Riker during the Klingon Civil War in TNG.
love the boff layout, but still is an inferior ship compared to most 10 console ships, specially the oddy. though a fantastic ship for newcomers, as was the free oddy last year.
wished for the galaxy to have this boff layout, but that train left a long time ago.
I like it to its turns rate is great but my shields seem do die very easly maybe I should use the jem hedar shields what does every one else think is best shields thats not covariant??? or borg?/
I use the Fleet advance Covarient Shield with two purple level XII field emitters on my ship. That shield does wonders, better than with my MK 12 Maco Shield.
I've only gotten the Ambassadors for two of my Characters so far (another couple will get them today...). This should be an interesting ship to work with.
As to what will happen to the R version? I imagine it'll end up in the Fleet Shipyard along side the Odyssey SC (Last year's ship) for 200K Dil(?).
Thank you for the time...

Expand Dil and Rep/Fleet Marks to regular story content
It is not too late to fix the Galaxy R, at least the Fleet version of course. I have yet to see anyone fly around in one. That 5th Eng console slot should be swapped around to be Tac console slot. It could still be a monster like the Dread it they do that.
It really is not that great of a ship. I know its free, so it dont matter, but that does not change the fact that it really is some thrown together garbage. Its perfect as a novelty ship to have sitting on your shelf, but that's it.
The fleet excelsior is superior in all ways....turn rate, hull, boff layout and consoles.
Even the C store Assault cruiser is a better ship with the same turn rate and hull basically.
I own the fleet assault cruiser myself, have encountered several of these ambassador ships in pvp match and blow them up just as easy as i do any ship but really, this free ship is nothing to be praised. Maybe "if" they release a fleet version it would be ok, but they have not yet.
I am just becoming irritated more and more with the F2P crowd that comes in from flying mirror universe garbage ships to obtaining this other free ship and telling everyone that its the best ship in game, and that every class can use it without a hiccup....well, im sorry, but they r wrong.

One of the few ships that likes to be worked and found myself switching power levels around to do different things.
I found this ship a lot of fun and a fresh change from the Excel that I am not a fan off.
An purple RCS console and changing power on engines meant turning was not an issue for me.
She may be an old girl but she still certainly can handle herself very well and brings a big smile to my face.
Thank you Cryptic for making a ship that makes me smile as a long time cruiser pilot.
Cheers
