A tad hard to read... Yellow on blue is bad... really...
Anywho ...
The settings you have probably (very likely) work well for your fleet, but I don't think my fleeties would stick around for more than 5-10 mins in my fleet... It's just not our mentality.
We just a few days got rid of the "progression" entirely, having fleet ranks removed alltogether, and replaced by indications of what the members do best in the fleet.
The reason is that we lost far too many good members, because of their obsessions with quick "progression" in ranks... Reasons that are uncertain for me.
Don't look silly... Don't call it the "Z-Store/Zen Store"...
Gold and Blue are my colors, so thats why I used that theme on my website. As for this guide, its only a template to help guild owners. Coming up with your own theme and ideas are part of the fun of making and progressing a fleet. I have found it best to recruit new players to the game, as this gives them a chance to grow along with your fleet, inspiring them to want to help out and be apart of a fleet they can be proud of. Veterans, think back to beta and how difficult it was to start out with no help or friends, take this oportunity to help new comers take advantage of your experience, and become a valuable member of your guild. =^.^=
This was a pet project for a while. I had a fleet once before, the mistake I made was to try to make everyone happy. In doing this I missed out on my goal of an active teaming fleet. Everyone wanted to have rank and be better then the next, things got out of hand fast and it wasent long before no one listened to me anylonger. I was the only one earning for prizes, and making up contests and events. When I stepped down and finaly gave the others a try, they started to grab everything up like I dropping fresh meat in a shark tank. =@.@= What an aweful experience, but the fleet im in now is stable, active and has good people that look after each other rather then just themselves.
MVP's arent the guys on the bench. Any successsful ball team, has a group who aspire to improve themselves as a whole, even Michael Jordan with all his skills, needed his team to coordinate a win.
The fleet idea may seem like im promoting mass grinding, but its just more orderly and gives a branch thier goal. When they give is up to them. Ive taken some flake for this idea in the past because not everyone wants to have responsibility, but im honored to meet and recruit players who ask what they can do for thier fleet, rather then what thier fleet can do for them.
(sigh) Every person who ever made a fleet has tried to get everyone to wear a fleet uniform....every person who has asked this has also lost much hair over this too. lol
For those unfamiliar with this, the purpose, or at least for my motives when I asked, was to have everyone look alike to have a unique look for our fleet like a ball team would. Nothing is more satifying to a fleet owner then having people who are proud to bear the fleet patch and uniform. It makes an impression, shows brotherhood in a guild.
But dont feel bad fleet owners...everyone has heard, "can I wear this instead" " What I have on is good for me" "can I wear a skirt instead" ....cant help but laugh about this as I type!! XD
Most try to make something ugly so i can understand in somecases, but I think the best idea is the free one...the First Contact/Star Trek theme. This is what mine was at first, I have always promoted bringing back more of a Star Trek theme again. But the best Uniform I ever seen was The Silver Knights, they no longer excist, but it was cool! A friend of mine owned that one.
The fleet I'm in has a very flat and relaxed hierarchical structure - no special ranks, schedules, PvP/PvE experts or whatever. We also don't bother imposing fleet uniforms.
We still consider ourselves to be quite successful, particularly as fleet projects still get filled rather quickly without the admins slave-driving anyone.
Laws of thermodynamics as applied to life: 0 - You must play the game. 1 - You can't win. 2 - You can't break even. 3 - You can't quit.
About Fleet Uniforms: I like the Ausmonaut policy with regards to this. The officers created lots of variants, allowed variations of the variants and made it optional to wear the outfit at all.
But in the spirit of things, when all of us were on the ice fighting snowmen, there was suddenly a sea of gold and green.
I guess its not about enforcing the uniform but giving people the chance and the feels to wear it.

Hi sumghai, im glad your fleet goes well. Please take note, that these are my opinions on the matter and dont reflect my current fleets policies! About the slave driving comment, may I say "ouch" You seem to take offense at everything I post, im not really sure why im such an interest to you.
But there are fleets and players that do enjoy taking adventage of the many things that the game offers, I hope the idea I submitted can help give players an idea as to the direction they wish to go, or maybe even help them stablise a fleet that is not doing so well. -Cat

Im glad my fleet isnt flat and boring, when I login its time to play. I like a lively fleet that is happy to see you when you come, and is always doing something. This makes my session worth it. I like partys and prizes and contests and flair (fun fun fun) I also like to feel important and needed for my skills in my fleet, I excell in earning, I even went so far as to get everything Ferengi, but not my character that race is just too ugly yuk!! Which brings me to uniforms, I like to stand out in a crowd so I dress my toon unique. But I agree it is an eye catcher to see a fleet that dresses the same.
One last thing, anyone who knows Meowstar, knows that he is not a slave driver, rather the oposite, ive seen him always take care everyone in his fleet, making sure they have anyting they need, especialy people leveling and new to the game. Just to guarantee they have the best of everything, for no other reason then loyalty to his own. I love it when hes here, he brings an aura of charm and nobility. Anyone who would pick on him, is low in my book!!

I gave a small fleet that has been around for a while... members come and go. We have made it to Tier 2 Starbase and Military (as well as shipyard), with Science and Engineering (and associated unlocks) being Tier 1. I base promotions on time in fleet, progression in the game (based on In Game rank/level), and contributions to fleet projects... if members want to get something out of the fleet, they need to put something into it. The fleet is called 525th Intelligence Fleet, and is supposed to be part of Star Fleet Intelligence, so ranks are named accordingly.

The best thing for any fleet is for them to figure out what works for them themselves, rather than attempting to prescribe an opinion in the guise of an "expert guide".
Thx for your submission Eric, you have a neat idea with earning your rank through seniority and contribution. I hope to see more ideas, and ecourage more helpful feedback that others can use.
Thanks for the support Luna, a bit over the top as usual lol. Just dont bother responding to the trolls, lets stay on the topic of fleet ideas.

I had a legitimate opinion that one should not package an opinion on fleet structures as a guide - it's rather rich to brand someone you don't disagree with as a "troll".
Opinions should not be marketed as a guide, especially as different fleets with different focal points would have different structures.
No, you may not say ouch.

One post, I see, with similar name and cat-related puns? How's that sockpuppeting working out for you?
Sounds nice, especially having rank titles follow the theme of espionage and intelligence.
I post mostely in our fleets forums, the only interest I have in this one is to stand up for Catstar. I knew what your reaction would be, you take things out of context and try to make someone your threatened by look bad, jealousy can make make people like you crazy as you can see all of your snap comments arent to add to his discussion, but rather to put him down. Only I get to pick on my brother!! So by posting a bunch of good things about him, I tricked you into showing your real motive. Trolling as meowstar put so well. As for the names, much of the funny cat names he uses where my idea to begin with, and if I want to add an STO to my name as well, whats it to you?! So just back off and quick causing trouble!!!

It's rather common for sockpuppet accounts to be made in the guise of close relatives. I also note from the frequency of misspellings that you're responding in anger - you wouldn't be so hung up over someone disagreeing with Catstar if you weren't actually Catstar himself.
In any case, my point still stands - an opinion should not be disguised as an actual guide to how fleets should be run.

This is why I asked everyone to stay on topic and not respond to him. Lets try this again. Above is a submission by Eric. I would welcome more ideas from people willing to share ideas that made thier fleet successful, or contructive comments concerning things that would be helpful. Once again here is also a link to the idea I submitted. http://catstarsto.com/fleet-structure-guide
You've already covered Eric's thoughts - repeatedly reposting it and your own website is spam.
It's clear you only acknowledge fleet that have fixed structures or plenty of activities, when there are also many successful fleets with a more casual attitude or simply made up of friends. Again, disguising your "guide" as an opinion piece doesn't make your argument any more valid than mine.
If anything, the only hard and fast recommendations for any fleet are:
- Have as few admins as possible
- Limit bank / fleet provisions permissions
- Don't promote members too quickly
Now THAT's a guide.
Laws of thermodynamics as applied to life: 0 - You must play the game. 1 - You can't win. 2 - You can't break even. 3 - You can't quit.
This thread was for fleet ideas, if you have no need for a structure or are pleased with the one you have. I would assume you have no need to persue what this thread is for. As I have said before, im glad your fleet is doing well Sumghai, your very proud of its organisation, and I realise that you have no need of any of these ideas that promote what you are against. If you have nothing further to add, I would appreciate you not disrupting this thread further just to disagree with my submission, as it solves nothing more then that. Lets allow for others to share thier ideas too. If anyone has an idea they wish to share that they think would be better please share it.
Firstly, I have nothing to do with the running of my fleet.
Secondly, I am not against structured fleets per se, as some (themed) guilds do need a certain amount of structure.
Thirdly, I am not against people posting their opinions on fleet structures.
What I AM against is the situation where someone such as yourself markets their opinions as a "guide", implies that it is the primary method to a successful fleet, and then dismiss dissenting opinions.
I am ALSO against those who use sockpuppets or recruit members from their private fleet forums with the specific goal of artificially providing support to their own posts.
Laws of thermodynamics as applied to life: 0 - You must play the game. 1 - You can't win. 2 - You can't break even. 3 - You can't quit.
I recommend you go back and read some of your previous posts, you seem only intent on disrupting my thread with comments designed just to insult me and my friends. My guide is, as stated in the webpages description, is a template. I have recomended this to use as a guide to creating your own, please reread my previous posts. Im still unsure as to why you keep trolling each post I make. I guess you feel a sense of accomplishment getting in the last word. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/troll_(internet)
To answer you, if you dont run a fleet nor have no need for anyone elses ideas different then yours, why did you complain to begin with? Not everyone wants to be layed back, they may wanna have more options, sharing ideas is the purpose of this thread, if I had meant for mine to be a master system, I wouldnt have asked for others ideas to compair with so others can see others ideas and get an idea for themselves of what they wanted to do with thier fleets. I think your real problem is, you need to hide inner emotional problems by putting others down, and I would be asking you for a public apology, for myself, sister and friends you have insulted. Once you learn to start treating people nice, you will begin to feel better about yourself and soon you wont have a need to troll people. You may even have friends who will post along with you in support.
You claim your "guide" is a template, and yet also call it an opinion. But more importantly, you present your opinion as the "only" successful method compared to those who prefer casual fleets.
Making personal attacks on my mental state or fabricating stories of my "emotional problems" does nothing to justify your argument. In fact, it may very well detract from it.
An apology? You have the nerve to threaten and extort me with such a demand. I should be the one requesting YOU to apologise, stop sockpuppeting and cease baiting people to read your personal website (instead of putting it in the signature section like everyone else).
I'm not the least bit concerned about "support" on my side. This isn't a popularity contest, but whose points make more sense.
Laws of thermodynamics as applied to life: 0 - You must play the game. 1 - You can't win. 2 - You can't break even. 3 - You can't quit.
A darn shame, I offered you a chance to makeup, and you are still trying to take away focus of this thread to discredit me and my idea. I guess you win and I will abandon this thread. I wish you well and hold no grudge against you for this, as i feel you truely dont know any better.
Sumghai I just read your comment on my earlier post.
For the record these people are not the same, they are indeed brother ans sister, I've voice chatted and teamed with them at the same time, unless this is some super-dextrous person that can change his voice from female to male and play two STO toons at the same time, its not the same person. I was only giving you the truth and letting you know your assumption was wrong.
I didn't say a thing about you personally, what is the difference how many posts I have or my date of registration?
How do you measure whose opinion of STO is more valid, I have 9 VA's and am a 750+ day veteran, I have Ambassador and have full Omega/Rom Rep on my mains, I lead both Fed and KDF fleets that have been going strong for almost 2 years, both with near Tier 4 Starbases and T2 Embassies, does that mean my observations are more valid than anothers?
Or do I have to roam these forums putting people down, being "first' to post or commenting on random threads to get 1000 posts before my opinion is worthwhile!

Unless you've met them in real life, anybody can claim to be who they are on the internet. Depending on his real age, you'd be surprised how similar males and "females" sound over voice chat.
Post count by itself isn't a terribly useful measure of sockpuppetting - it needs to be considered in conjunction with other telltale signs such as unreserved support of the OP, incorrect references to names, and targeted posting - all of which were present here.
In terms who should be regarded as a credible source of opinion, consider the argument itself, not the poster's game ranking or whether they're a paying customer. Catstar could have quietly and respectfully (like everyone else) put his website in his signature line, and let others discover it at their own please (instead of using repeated "clever" posts to bait people) - but more importantly, "he" could have posted his guide in full text in the Star Trek Online Discussions section as simply sharing how "his" fleet is structured rather than imposing "his" opinions as better than others and denigrating solo or casual fleet players.
Instead, he has done neither, and that's what I take issue with. And I speak from experience administering many forums, where this sort of insidious self-promotion is frowned upon.
Now that I've sufficiently derailed this thread, to sum up:
A) The basics for the running of any good fleet is to limit the number of staff, don't promote members too quickly out of misguided trust, and tighten fleet bank/provision restrictions so you don't get robbed.
Having lots of subdivisions, chapters, clans, units, sections, teams etc is nice, but that does not make it superior to casual fleets, nor vice versa.
C) Catstar's so-called "sister" claimed that casual fleets were boring and lame. I simply said structured fleets may not work for everybody.
D) In conjunction with point C), all of this drama could potentially be avoided by prefixing the thread title with [OPINION] and posting the FULL text in the Star Trek Online Discussions.
Capiche?
Laws of thermodynamics as applied to life: 0 - You must play the game. 1 - You can't win. 2 - You can't break even. 3 - You can't quit.
That is because friends and fleet stick together. As you proclaimed so proudly, you have derailed this thread. Your goal all along, it challenged your beliefs, so it had to be trolled into destruction. Let your false claims be your banner, no one came here to agree with you, you stand alone and always will. Such is the life a selfcentered know-it-all with no other life then to get in the last word!

Yes, this thread was derailed from your (Catstar) REAL purpose of constantly spam advertising a website. I saw through the pretense quite quickly, as well as the alternating personalities. The fact that you come all this way just to respond to this thread only reinforces the fact you're a sockpuppet.
Furthermore, having lost the argument and claimed to have abandoned the thread, you return under another guise to make death threats.
Catstar and plasma, just because everyone in your fleet had been conditioned to agree with you, doesn't make what you say any more valid than anyone elses.
I neither feel fear or anger, merely pity.

Fancy seeing ANOTHER IDIC admin.
Capiche?
The only thing you proved here is your a prick!

Somebody points out you are in the wrong, and instead of countering the point of the argument itself, you make death threats against them.
In any case, you (Catstar) have been figuring out how to put links in sigs, instead of inappropriate promoting, so that's fine by me.
