Hi all, just thought I'd pass on a few things I wish I had known earlier. First of all, setting weapons on autofire by right clicking each weapon till a green box appears around it. This seems obvious but I didnt know about it at first and it really opened up the combat side of the game for me. Second: Mines are awesome. They make so much more use in the rear than a torpedo does. Although this does depend on your playstyle: Mines really only work well if you like to get in close.
Now on to episodes. Personally I only really do the Klingon arc (Fed side) for the good starting equipment they provide. I found the other arcs too much hassle to bother with but then again, YOU might feel differently. If your rank is at least one higher than a given episode, you have the option to SKIP it. I use this function to do the episodes I thought were ok and ignored the rest.
As for voicechat with friends I would like to give a shout out to the player who posted about Raidcall (
www.raidcall.com). I dont remember their name, sorry. I had been using Skype with a real life friend but Skype uses so much resources that it would crash STO. On the other hand, stuff like Ventrilo requires a server and you need to be "tech savvy" to understand the set up process. Raidcall is very much "plug and play" like Skype but uses a fraction of the resources Skype does.
And before anyone asks, I know STO has a built in voicechat but you need to either group or be in a Fleet to use it and neither of those was an option for us. Hope this helps someone enjoy this MMORPG better

I was looking at keybinding when an old video mentioned right-clicking to enable autofire.
That was mere weeks ago...
RIP KDF and PvP 2014-07-17 Season 9.5 - Death by Dev
When buying stuff from a vendor where you can only by 1 at a time type thing (say food via replicator), hold down CTRL and double click the item. Insta buys it. Saves the need for endlessly clicking OK dialogs.
I didn't know that one.

Too bad it doesn't actually work, and instead makes it impossible to stop shooting at all.
While in the Khit space stf, when you blow the first gate and the mass of probes/ 2 spheres comes through, leave one sphere alive if possible and no more will come out of the gate.
Wow I did not know that one either
Holy hell this is an EUREKA moment.

"Last Engage! Magical Girl Origami-san" is in print! Now with three times more rainbows.
Support the "Armored Unicorn" vehicle initiative today!
Thanks for Harajuku. Now let's get a real "Magical Girl" costume!
Shame on me after a few years never known this, great tip. A few days ago would have been better after 250 torp I had to buy!
Join The Space Invaders,..... Federation and KDF fleets.
Selling stuff to the Dilithium store under the 'Hanger Pets' tab gets you the same 50% you get from selling to Lessa in ESD - if I'd known that sooner I'd probably have made hundreds of thousands (millions?) more EC than I have from throwing full inventorys into the replicator...
Any bartender in the galaxy so far has paid 50% to me.
Also a nice tip I was given was to pick up the missions you normally do even if you don't plan on doing them right away. That way when you get the time to do them, you can run them twice since the timer starts from when you pick them up.
Hold down ctrl (or was it shift?) and drag the stack to another open slot in your inventory.
The auto buy thing is great to know.
Wasnt there a way to set Boffs to automatically pick up loot for you as well?
Nor did I...three years later. D'oh.
For the Romulan/Omega Reputation - if the projects you've got running will advance you a Tier (Tier 1-2, 2-3, whatever), make sure you have the 'File Situation Report...' and 'Support Colonization...' projects queued - this has two benefits:
1) When you next go to select your projects you'll be able to select a second 'File Situation Report' or 'Support Colonization' - these are the 2000 XP projects so it gives you a jump on the next Tier (and saves you a few days over the time it takes to do the whole rep system).
2) Secondly, the project you've just queued will require the resources for the Tier it was queued in so it'll save you some Marks/Expertise/ECs too
-If you stay 5km away from Donatra she wont cloak, making the battle much faster.
-There are missions available all across the galaxy. You can activate them all, even if youve already done them, and then if you want to go somewhere, make the mission thats closest to the area you wish to travel as your primary mission. Then you can (for some EC) transwarp almost anywhere.
-The temporal ambassador mission grants you access to Tau Dewa sector well before you reach level cap. You can pick up any Tau Dewa specific Doff missions once youre there.
if a fleetmate doesn't take the "engage" button when you are in a public queue, doing in pvp->challenge->leave, you can clear all queues, pve and pvp ones
Of course, all team members must do it.
switch characters or log out for 60 seconds, and you dont go or get any penality
The cheepest place to buy reputation items like stembolts is the cargo ship right just ahead of you when you leave space dock ( Cargo Ship )
switch power to shields before you make a mine strafing run on donatra and she wont cloak, Warp plasma has no effect on donatra
If you stay 9.5 away from any gate it wont shoot you
If you drag a item from inventory to the exchange search bar you can find that item on the exchange
NEVER never never buy anything from the ( all ) catagory on the exchange its way over priced
Ship repair parts are cheep in the shipyard , Hypos and regenerators are cheep across from the tailor on earth space dock, putting these in your Bank will allow you to repair/Heal wounds at a STF, Hypos you must carry on you
You can do contraband missions at the center of earth spacedock at the security officer
Log in and out the ( OLD ) way and your fleet chat will not be bugged if you use switch character it will be bugged
Have Fun
Saphire.. Science ground......Ko'el Romulan space Tac
Leva........Tactical ground.....Koj Romulan space Eng
JJ-Verse will never be Canon or considered Lore...It will always be JJ-Verse
If you attack from the side of a gate you can attack from >7.5km away without being attacked. Under the gate is even less I think.
With Donatra, if she does cloak, Aceton assimilators will give away her position with their siphon tendril pointing to her. Also fighters will closely circle around her. Any mines dropped near her when cloaked will track her down.
You can survive a blast of her Thalaron weapon if you have the Barrier Field Generator Console.
I use Aceton Assimilators against (targetable) heavy torps as area denial devices. 5km radius. Heavy torps often don't have the HP to shrug off the 86 hp or so dps the assimilator does to them. Haven't hard to worry about incoming heavy torps in ages. Only Bio-neurals and the massive plasma torps the Unimatrix ships launch can shrug it off. Makes the romulan plasma torp in PvP useless.
You also do much less damage and your teammates will curse your name.

This sounds like a better option than Autofire mode since you can better control the argo you get. You can get a chance to set your target first, then activate "maintain".
For example, when you are taking out regenerators but don't want the cube to start attacking you because your autofire started firing on the cube before your can set the next regenerator as the next target..
SCE ADVISORY NOTICE: Improper Impulse Engine maintenance can result in REAR THRUSTER LEAKAGE. ALWAYS have your work inspected by another qualified officer.
Wait... what?
Also, some very handy tips here for a beginner like myself.
Nerf's probably the wrong word here.
Using the dil store to sell items was "fixed" today. So maybe a new word like "de-convenienced" would be a better way to put it.
Don't waste money on Z-store ships ( unless it has a console you just can't live without) until you hit lvl. 50. Why waste money on a ship you're only going to use for 10 levels?
Don't upgrade your ships until you get to 45+. Use the gear that comes with it. Sell all your drop items up until this point, on the exchange if you can get more than 50% listed value for it, otherwise, to a vendor. Don't spend 1 ec you don't have to before lvl. 45. Gear gets really expensive once you hit MK XI and higher, and you're going to need that money then.
The tactical team BOFF skill is your best friend. I use it on every ship I have, without exception.
Not in a torpedo boat.

Science Ships are a lot less underpowered than people give them credit for. True, in PvP most of their drains are on the weak side versus Power Insulators, but in PvE they are more than capable of rearranging your opponents into hilarious origami while making most bosses go from "damage sponge that occaisionally vaporizes you" to "damage sponge that occasionally twitches." Their primary weak spot lies in the relative lack of need for their debuffs.
Science Ships should *not* be slotting Field Generators. Your Science Console slots exist for increasing the debuffing or damage effects of your Science BOff powers, the same way Tactical Slots exist on Escorts for allowing the full potential of their weapons to be realized.
125 Aux makes many, many Science Powers many, many times more powerful or effective.
