My ship is named U.S.S. Galileo, named after the infamous Italian astronomer, physicist, mathematician and philosopher. He made new scientific discoveries and made improvements to the telescope amongst others. It is therefore a very fitting name to the star trek ethos, to explore strange new Worlds, seek out new life and new civilizations, to boldly go where no one has gone before!

I named my ships after American National Parks ie Yosemite, Yellowstone, John Muir who advocated for Yosemite to become a national park and Sentinel Rock which is the second highest place you can hike to at Yosemite park

The USS Roanoke. There's a couple of layers of meaning, from the Roanoke colony being one of my favorite local legends, to a lost colony also being part of my character's backstory, to it being a nod to the Cabal's history as Roanoke colonists in City of Heroes and an homage to my Cabal heroine there.

    "10 PERCENT RULE"

You'd be surprised the number of people who can't read still.

Also there's apparently some myth about the new Romulan Plasma "Slo-Cone Machine" launcher being so uber that "there is no more 10% Rule."

Facts are: Not using the 10% Rule you might have a small chance of pulling it off.
Using the 10% Rule you will ALWAYS win the Optional.

I'VE SEEN YOU IN A STF!

And I thought that was an awesome ship name.

Anyways, my ship names are usually references to movies and/or historical events.

    So here is the list:

Chel Grett: U.S.S. Red Dawn (After the old 80s film and its remake)

Patrol Escort: U.S.S. Vendetta (V for Vendetta, anyone?)

Odyssey Class: U.S.S. Vigilant (The exception to my rule.)

Mirror Assault Cruiser: U.S.S. Normandy (The Normandy from Mass Effect and Normandy Beach (Look up D-Day, if you don't know what I'm talking about))

Ki'tang Bird of Prey: Hunters Star (Named after a Predator comic made by Darkhorse.)

Most of my Fed Captains had their ships named after relatively recent ships. Escorts were named for destroyers, cruisers for cruisers/battleships, science vessels...well I only have one Fed Sci so her ships were named after my daughters.

I did deviate on a few occasions however.
One of my Fed Engineer tanks is currently commanding the U.S.S. Psychotic, a Fleet Advanced Heavy Cruiser Retrofit. Named due to his love of parking directly in front of the whatever stf baddie and firing away point blank. (except Donatra. He just leads her around by the nose while everyone else dps's the TRIBBLE out of her.)
He also on occasion runs with the U.S.S. Neurotic....the predecessor to the Psychotic, an Advanced Heavy Cruiser Retrofit. Though this ship has been relegated to "fun runs" in stfs and should really be renamed the "Rainbow Express"

Recently for some reason I went on a "Deliverance" kick with the names:

U.S.S. YouGotaPurdyMouth (Fleet Advanced Heavy Crusier Retrofit)
    I.K.S. YouGotaPurdyMouth (Qin Heavy Raptor)
    U.S.S. Banjo Music (Nebula Retrofit)
I.K.S. SqueelLikeaPig (Fleet Tactical Escort Retrofit)
I.K.S. UrSheepDintKisMe (Vor'Cha Retrofit) ...not really Deliverance, but it fit the theme lol.

For those nights where pugs are going horrible (yes I pug at times and do enjoy them)

    I.K.S. Muppet Hunter (B'Rel Retrofit)
    I.K.S. Kermit Crusher (Negh'var)

I often name my ships after something i have heard of.

    List:

U.S.S. Durandal (Galaxy X) [Named after the Game called Marathon, An AI Named Durandal was a character inside the game]

U.S.S. Frontrunner ( Galaxy Refit) [Heard about the word on a Site called Newgrounds, decided to use it as a ship name]

U.S.S. Infinity ( Caitian Atrox Carrier ) [The U.N.S.C. Infinity From Halo 4 gave me this idea, but so did Marathon 3: Infinity, The game, and other things too]

U.S.S. Amethyst (Rademaker Class Multi-Mission Strategic Explorer) [I was thinking about Diablo III's Gem Colors, And, after some debate between Emerald and Amethyst, i went with Amethyst.]

U.S.S. Universe (Wells Temporal Vessel, i forgot their true name.) [Real life matters gave me this ship's name as an idea.]

    _____

I.K.S. TaJhu ( K'Ting'a ) [Named after a random ship name in Star trek Legacy.]

I.K.S. Nilash'DaJ ( Vo'Quv Dreadnought ) [I actually played WoW, One of the Qiraji Raid bosses, Named Emporer Vek'Nilash, Gave me the "Nilash" Part of the name as an idea, But the "DaJ" Part was made up by me.]

I.K.S. Begh'PoQ (Hegh'Ta Heavy Bird of Prey) [Same as I.K.S. TaJhu]

My main character, M'ossa, has had a number of ships- All of which I tried to give authentic, meaningful names depending on the backstory behind each.

    The most interesting(Or I guess unique?) name, though, is probably his Recluse;
    IKS M'ossa'a'Daj ta'
    Centurion Tenir - R.R.W. Taldor

My current ship is a Jem'Hadar attack ship and is named USS Lotus and that is basically its default name from when I got it.

My first ship in the game was the USS Derbyshire after where I am from. I also have other low level ships on other characters and they were named after the counties that surround Derbyshire (Yorkshire, Nottinghamshire etc).

I have a collection of ships named after UK and Maltese towns/cities (Nottingham, Bolton, Valletta, Ta' Xbiex, Vittoriosa, plus others)

I have had five ships named King George V and those are normally my best cruisers. I have other cruisers named after George III, IV and VI along with King James I.

I have a few oddly named ships such as the Pope Pius IX (Ferengi Marauder), Catfish Sandwich (Cardassian Galor) Dolph Lundgren (Nebula class) and the USS No Clipping (a yellowstone runabout)

    U.S.S Kuragon.
Kuragon is the Esperanto word for 'courage' I thought it was appropriate given the situations I put the ship + crew through and I thought the 'universal language' was relevant and sufficiently sci-fi enough to blend in.

My former ships were U.S.S Cazador which means hunter or destroyer.
Since I spent most of my time blowing up various other ships/species/non-descript others I again thought it was appropriate.

U.S.S Kalipoh. This is a hybrid between a Vulcan word and a Klingon word to reflect my character at the time; broken down into their original forms it means "challenge time"

U.S.S Leotosa - I honestly can't remember where this came from

My latest ship - the Ambassador-class - is called Taishi, which is the Japanese word for Ambassador/Diplomat. I'm quite into Japanese culture/language, so I tend to name most of my ships that way.

I fly the Odyssey Class Operations Cruiser U.S.S. West Virginia NCC-961863-C. Also known as the WeeVee or the DubVee.

West Virginia is my home state and I am proud to be 11th generation West Virginian. There are a lot of misconceptions about my state and because of that it allowed us to be taken advantage of so much. Mostly by the coal industry who has now gone as far as literally blowing up entire mountains to extract coal. The practice of mountaintop removal is poisoning and permanently impoverishing the people who live in the shadows of these massive sites.

The first U.S.S. West Virginia (ACR-5) was a pre-World War I United States Navy Pennsylvania-class armored cruiser. Later renamed the U.S.S. Huntington and went on to serve in WWI.

The U.S.S. West Virginia (BB-48) was a Colorado-class battleship commissioned December 1, 1923. The West Virginia was one of the most advanced naval battleships built at the time. It was present at the attack on Pearl Harbor and took heavy damage. Salvaged and refitted, the West Virginia went on to serve in World War II, participating in several major engagements, and was one of only 2 ships (the other being the USS Detroit) to survive the attack on Pearl Harbor and be present in Tokyo Bay when the Japanese surrendered.

Currently the U.S.S. West Virginia (SSBN-736) is a United States Navy Ohio-class ballistic missile submarine commissioned in 1990. The Ohio-class subs are the biggest ever built by the U.S. Navy and because of their stealthiness, the West Virginia is nicknamed the Silent Mountaineer.

I am proud of the state and ships who have carried its name.

U.S.S. Paramount - for she is the best ship I have flown so far.

U.S.S. Lightningbolt (Odyssey pack) - it flies well in sector space (longer slipstream stream drive) and perform nicely in battle.

U.S.S. Shinobi (Breen ship) - it looks like a shuriken with dark coloring like ninja.

U.S.S. Emerald (Ambassador Refit) - the default name tag given was U.S.S. Katrina. A girlish name. So, combined with the famous name of U.S.S. Enterprise, I picked U.S.S. Emerald.

U.S.S. Broken Hope. Reason being, hope in anything can be beaten, battered, bruised, broken, and shattered, but as long as you never let it go, it is never lost. Anyone that has been in an actual worse case scenario combat situations, will fully understand that.

U.S.S. Nidokuin- for being the sister defensive variant of the much more offensive Galaxy Class. For having more support ability and less weapon ports for those wondering why.

Think I may have replied to one of these things before... but I've probably acquired a couple more ships since then.

Anyway. When I realized I was going to go through several ships, I decided I needed a consistent naming scheme... and I used the names (or bits of the names) of various compositions by Gustav Holst, who's one of my favourite composers. He's best known for the "Planets" suite, but so far I've steered clear of that one.

      So, to date it's

      Light cruiser - USS Hammersmith
      Cruiser - USS Beni Mora
Heavy Cruiser - USS Brook Green
Exploration Cruiser - USS Egdon Heath
      Assault Cruiser - USS Savitri
Mirror Universe Assault Cruiser - USS Sita (my main ship for a good long while)
Mirror Universe Star Cruiser - USS Cloud Messenger
Mirror Universe Reconnaisance Science Vessel - USS Boar's Head
Mirror Universe Deep Space Science Vessel - ISS Hampshire
Recluse Carrier - USS King Estmere (currently my main ship)
Chel Grett Cruiser - USS Bleak Midwinter
Tuffli freighter - SS Rigs o'Marlow
Class F shuttle - USS Moorside
Aeon timeship - USS Walt Whitman

.. I haven't unpacked the Ambassador yet, I'll have to find one for that. (There are still a few left I can use!)

I started a science officer toon, too, using a similar scheme, this time the works of Sibelius. So far, I've just had the USS Oceanides and USS Lemminkainen on that one.

My main toon CatStar named His ship the T'Paw, after his best friend (RP) Alanna T'Par. CatStar has an accent so the name of his ship is basically an inside joke, of how he says Tpar. This is the vulcan science ship...alanna is a vulcan, fyi.

Adventure Cat: aka, James T Cat, uses the Kittyprize. A constitution class. A silly joke started by my sister some time back, since I used all caitians for my crew. More of him can be found on my website.

Caitian Picard: I just used the Enterprise (Galaxy class) name for his, as his RP backstory is he was one of the Picards when Q brought them together from each dimention, this picards reality was that everyone was a cat. Just like in the old goofy cartoons, everyone was Goofy.

Battlecat: My Ferisan on the KDF side, is an evil clone created by Dr. whatshisname from that clone mission that comes up now and again. CatStars nemesis :3 His ship is a Kar'fi carrier called The Dark Paw, a play off of CatStars ship.
