My main toon CatStar named His ship the T'Paw, after his best friend (RP) Alanna T'Par. CatStar has an accent so the name of his ship is basically an inside joke, of how he says Tpar. This is the vulcan science ship...alanna is a vulcan, fyi.
Adventure Cat: aka, James T Cat, uses the Kittyprize. A constitution class. A silly joke started by my sister some time back, since I used all caitians for my crew. More of him can be found on my website.
Caitian Picard: I just used the Enterprise (Galaxy class) name for his, as his RP backstory is he was one of the Picards when Q brought them together from each dimention, this picards reality was that everyone was a cat. Just like in the old goofy cartoons, everyone was Goofy.
Battlecat: My Ferisan on the KDF side, is an evil clone created by Dr. whatshisname from that clone mission that comes up now and again. CatStars nemesis His ship is a Kar'fi carrier called The Dark Paw, a play off of CatStars ship.
I had a liberated borg officer once, I named Thaddeus Demming, and gave him a Flagship named USS Premonition. You may, or may not get the reference.
My first toon, before I purchased the playable Caitian was FLash Dashing, since I tried to give him a classic sci fi hero theme, I named his escort, The Gunstar. That wasent The Last Starfighter he used, I equiped him now with the escort carrier, I named it USS Mustang, after my favorite WW2 fighter plane.
EPIC FAIL SUPERBOWL........Just because,:mad:Ambassador Class With captain killing consoles...Fans, and devs do not read too far into this, I am blowing off steam on a bad bet.
i used to call my ship the U.S.S. Wilusa, but everyone started calling me will so i changed it to the U.S.S. Chekov. mainly cause he was always my favorite and he doesn't get enougha ttention for his role.
Simply because it's a badass name. No idea how I came up with it. And I actually got a few in-game PM's telling me it's a cool name, so I'm not the only one who likes it.
The early ships I didn't like, I named U.S.S Nuisance, U.S.S. OLD P.O.S. or U.S.S. ButtUgly.
Some ships I name after booze I like, Labatts, Bacardi, Crown Royale, and some get Names from my favorite animes, Yamato, Macross, Frontier, Gecko State.
If something is not broken, don't fix it, if it is broken, don't leave it broken.
I've got a new Fed Science character based entirely around the Temporal Lockbox stuff. He's a Klingon from the 29th Century, who gets stuck in the 25th Century by Tholian temporal jiggery-pokery. What with his time travelling nature, his ships have all been named after actors who've played The Doctor in the BBC show, Doctor Who.
So far, he's commanded;
USS Tennant - Nova class
USS Pertwee - Olympic class
USS Troughton - Intrepid class
USS Baker - Luna class
USS Hartnell - Wells class
He also has two shuttlecraft;
USS McGann - Aeon class
USS Cushing - Danube class (2409 Starfleet standard issue)
[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]
This character is why I don't play my Romulan any more. Tovan Khev is NOT my BFF! Get him off my bridge!
My old main used USS Excalibur on a Sov cruiser. I would put it on a Constitution refit but... When I was a kid growing up I had a TOS technical manual. In it there was a long list of NCC numbers and names. Another Constitution class was USS Excalibur NCC 1705. I thought the name was cool and fromt then on always imagined myself as the Captain of that ship while Kirk was flying around in his.
My Current main uses the USS Iapetus. Why? Because I think its an awesome sounding name. I first heard it in the boardgame Solar Quest. It's one of the moons of Saturn.
My Klingon uses the yaybom. Way back when I was on a MUSH called ATS. In it I always flew around in a ship called the yaybom. I've never been able to seperate that ship from tha tKlingon. So when I remade that Klingon here I had to bring back that ship.
One of my Tellarite captains uses USS Challenger. I origionally created that character to join a fleet that was going to try and RP being all on the same ship the US challenger. Unfortuantly that experiment failed almost immediately but I liked the ship design and name so I kept it.
On my Nauscian named Klaxem I have the IKS Torgoh. It's basically just named after that bumbling guy you see on MST3k. It amuses me.
My caitian has an Atrox Carrier named the Tigers Claw. It is named after carrier in the game Wing Commander. Its kinda amusing concidering the Caitians are basically Kilrathi
My other characters dont really have main ships yet. Alot of times Ill just hit random on a new ship and just keep what sounds acceptable.
Believe it or not, I too had a ship named "Tiger's Claw" named after the ship from Wing Commander. It was a Star Cruiser - Nomad-Class with Vanguard-Class pylons.
All my ships are named after famous ships from other sci-fi shows and movies, with their registry numbers based on the movies' release dates. I choose those names since I couldn't figure a good original one at the top of my head at the time.
The ships I own are as follows:
1.) U.S.S. Axiom (Odyssey Tactical Cruiser) N.C.C.-92008-W
NAME REFERENCE: The "Axiom" from Disney's "Wall-E." (My current ship in use.)
2.) U.S.S. Axalon (Wells Temporal Science Vessel) N.C.V.-921064-X
NAME REFERENCE: The Maximal's ship, "The Axalon" from Beast Wars. Also the name of my Sonic character's Well-Class timeship on Deviantart.
3.) U.S.S. Event Horizon (Research Science Vessel (Horizon-Class)) N.C.C.-970815-L
NAME REFERENCE: The titular "Event Horizon" of the 1997 sci-fi horror film of the same name. (Keeping this ship in stock because the Horizon-Class looks cool.)
5.) U.S.S. Palomino (Support Cruiser Retrofit (Ambassador-Class)) N.C.C.-91979-C
NAME REFERENCE: The "Palomino" from Disney's 1979 sci-fi film, "The Black Hole." (Originally named "U.S.S. Cygnus," N.C.C.-92130-C.)
6.) U.S.S. Proteus (Odyssey Star Cruiser) N.C.C.-980403-J
NAME REFERENCE: The "Proteus" ship from 1998's "Lost In Space" film. (My previous main ship before getting the Tactical Odyssey.)
7.) U.S.S. Roger Young (Heavy Escort Carrier (Armitage-Class)) N.C.C.-970711-S
NAME REFERENCE: The "Roger Young" from the "StarShip Troopers" film.
8.) U.S.S. Sulaco (Assault Cruiser Refit (Regent-Class)) N.C.C.-921986-A
NAME REFERENCE: Ship from "ALIENS."
These two Mirror ships are the only names that were original:
9.) I.S.S. Retrocausality (Mobius Temporal Destroyer) N.C.V.-93612-Y
NOTE: I had to go in wikipedia to look up a good name for a timeship, and Retrocausality made sense for a temporal destroyer name.
10.) I.S.S. Tango Avenger (Mirror Assault Cruiser (Nomad-Class with Vanguard-pylons)) N.C.C.-91370
NOTE: The name "Tango Avenger" I got from a name someone gave their Titan A.E. ship on the old Titan A.E. site forum back in 2000. Name intriged me since. So, this name is 13 years old. Whoever named that ship Tango Avenger - GIVE THAT GUY A BEER! =3
Currently have two characters, my first (and main) is a Fed Human Tac Officer and ship names are random in the sense that I name them based on whatever comes to mind at the time with no set theme (apart from a few named after areas of south west UK):
Light Cruiser: USS Cullompton - Named for the town where I live, about 12.5 miles north of Exeter, UK
Cruiser: USS Persephone - Zeus' daughter and a great name for a ship of any kind in my opinion
Heavy Escort: USS Cornwall - back to a south west UK theme like my first ship
Support Cruiser (Ambassador Class): USS Bristol - another SW UK name
and my current ship is an Exploration Cruiser: USS Eisenhorn - named for the Imperial Inquisitor Gregor Eisenhorn from the Warhammer 40K universe who was the main character in the Eisenhorn trilogy if novels by Dan Abnett.
My second char is a Vulcan Science Officer and I have more of a back story for her, basically joined starfleet to persue a scientific career despite being offered a prestigious position at the Vulcan science academy and defying her parents wishes and traditions in doing so. I plan to name the ships she commands after either notable people from history (mainly science or literature) or female names that would suit a science vessel.
Just started this character so am still commanding a tier 1 ship:
Oberth Class: USS Daphne - named for the naiad who Apollo fell in love with, fits a small science vessel as well imo
My main Ship is a fleet Excelsior called Raging Queen.
There was a Starfleet ship of that name in the DS9 manual and i always thought its a cool name. It also was the name of a privateer-/pirateship in a novel of wich the name escapes me at the moment.
There ar only 2 other ships i fly somewhat regulary.
First is a Steamrunner class ship called Bladerunner in honor of the movie and the runner part of the name.
The secons is a Odyssey Science Cruiser called Mnemosyne for the the godess of memories.
Other ships i have include the Tabula Rasa (MVAM Prometheus), Styx (Armitage), Eclipse (Galaxy R), Nebuchadnezzar (Regent), Fourty Thieves (fleet Defiant)
Looking forward to buy the fleet Aquarius. Ill name it CRM-114 (Combat Recon module 114)
Insiders know what this name refers to
I'm one of those who comes up with a theme for each character's ships. Though it does sometimes take a few ships to figure out what I want to do. Current ships in bold.
Science (main), named after Michigan things:
Michigan Cherry (also the captain's name in City of Heroes [R.I.P.])
Sleeping Bear
Lake Huron
Tahquamenon Manitou (Runabout)
Isle Royale Sleeping Bear (again--current)
Tactical, named after cryptids:
Yeti
Chupacabra Kirin (Runabout)
Loch Ness
J'ba Fofi J'ba Fofi (refit--current)
If I ever unpack her Breen ship, it will be the Jackalope.
Engineer, named after observatories (real and in-universe):
Hubble
Argus
Mauna Loa
Amargosa Xiangfen (Runabout) Atacama (current)
Mauna Kea (planned Fleet ship name)
And I'll let you figure out the theme for my Klingon engineer:
Ko'Nepag NIchal (shuttle)
Ta'Qey Du'an (current)
__________________ Ann Manistee Traverse - Human Science ~~ Oken Miquat - Saurian Tactical
Exin Jor - Joined Trill Engineer ~~ Vartox - Romulan Science Dn'Dok, son of Ladok - Klingon/Romulan Engineer ~~ Mosa M'ren-faa - Ferasan Tactical
Krushan Twinn - Orion Science
1. Yakutsk - One of the coldest cities on Earth. Has Breen set on it. Get it?
2. Mixcoatl - Mesoamerican god of the hunt. Because it's an escort that hunts wascally Womulans.
3. Gamete- Because I didn't think that I could have gotten away with using "Sperm Cell" since that's what the Hope and Horizon looks like mixed up.
4. Some random Klingon ship name that I didn't pay attention to since there's no need to invest yourself in the KDF beyond finding the good sectors to maraud in.
It doesnt sound original, but Luke Minhere has been a staple character of mine for two decades. He was called the Black Wolf by an administrator on another game, over ten years ago, and thus it only fits that any group he has run is The Wolfpack, or simpley, Wolfpack.
If you ever heard the old country song, I Was A Highwayman, it makes me think of Luke. He has been through all of the ages, from UO to A o C, CoH to CO, and now Star Trek Online, not to mention many consol games. His character simply seems to fit any time well, so naturally, Wolfpack follows him.
"I fly a starship, across the universe divide,
and when I reach the other side,
I'll find a place to rest my spirit if I can,
or perhaps I may become a highwayman again,
or I may simply be a single drop of rain,
but I will remain,
and I'll be back again and again and again......" - Highwayman

My current vessel is a Mirror Vo'quv Carrier named the IKS Qeylis Ro' (Fist of Kahless). Since it usually has four Mirror B'Rotlh BoP Refits out at any given time, I think it's appropriate... five ships, one for each finger (with the Qeylis Ro' being the big middle finger pointed at the Federation).
My first redside ship was called the Nga'Chuq pIn'a'... I'll let you translate that one yourselves if you feel so inclined.
Blueside (when I still played blueside), my ships follow a common theme. There's the Sobieski, the Kosciuszko, the Pilsudski, the Husaria, and a few others I can't quite recall. All heroes or elements of Polish military history.
USS Tiburon NCC-(1)68636: "Tiburon" means "shark" en Espanol.
IKS Norgh'a'Qun: a norgh is an acquatic predator much like a shark. The 'a'-suffix indicates greatness in the attached noun. "Qun" is the Klingon word for god. So "Norgh'a'Qun" means either "Great shark god" or "God of sharks."
All the other ships belonging to my two mains are variations on the theme. I like sharks.
My Fed Sci's ships are all named after my favorite sci-fi authors: USS Larry Niven, USS Douglas Adams, USS Robert Heinlein etc. and their registry numbers refence their name sake in some way - i.e. USS Ray Bradbury NCC-(100)471-F.
My Fed Eng started naming his ships after Space Shuttle orbiters, but there were only five besides the Enterprise, so I'll have to get creative when I get him to VA.
My KDF Tac's ships are named for Klingon birds; currently he drives the Pach raptor IKS Cha'bIp named for a type of bird noted for its speed.
...Oh, baby, you know, I've really got to leave you / Oh, I can hear it callin 'me / I said don't you hear it callin' me the way it used to do?...
- Anne Bredon
Fleet Patrol Escort: USS Crusader- Medieval history
Mirror Patrol Escort: ISS Trajan- Roman General and Emperor
Mirror Star Cruiser: ISS Alexander- Macedonian king who conquered the Persian Empire
Mirror Assault Cruiser: USS Repulse- British battlecruiser
Support Cruiser: USS Agincourt- Famous medieval battle
Danube class runabout: USS Flying Deathtrap
"The meaning of victory is not to merely defeat your enemy but to destroy him, to completely eradicate him from living memory, to leave no remnant of his endeavours, to crush utterly his achievement and remove from all record his every trace of existence. From that defeat no enemy can ever recover. That is the meaning of victory."
-Lord Commander Solar Macharius
Mine is called the USS Curiosity because I was always interested in that little rover . Since I am also a science vessel, it fits well with the theme of exploration .
