I -know- you know what "fiasco" I am referring to. You can hardly claim that STO's forums, when it was changed, went through "smooth sailing". All the old posts became "Archived Posts", all our old usernames became useless etc. So i'm sure you can understand how some of us may be a bit "jaded" and cautious in regards to any additional changes to this forum.
I'm definitely not saying that the first STO change was smooth sailing, but we've learned many things from it. NW also went through that change, and then they just went through the second. The second change was very smooth, and I listed important notices in the OP for items that need player action.
Please know that this upcoming change is important for the forums, and is why I've requested STO to go last -- if anything unexpected comes up in the other games' forum upgrades, we'll learn from that and apply it to STO. So far, the ESO and NW transitions (2.0 as you call it) went very smooth and players are happy with it.

Brandon ... You da man and you've got our respect and thanks!
having read a particularly good idea a user posted here on the forum, I "+1'd" it. Adding my support to the OP's post, without having any addition comments on the topic honestly.
If you can't post a full comment it may not be necessary to post.
Now, I don't mind, nor am I complaining about the response. What I am asking for then, is a mechanism for either showing support, or for showing disagreement with the OP.
Other forums have this sort of functionality allowing the users to do so (without adding an actual 10 character response), rather a little ticker in the header of the post.
I know Raptr(although don't know what they call the functionality) has it, as does Guildlaunch. Guildlaunch calls it an Up/Down Vote.
I really think this would be an overall useful tool (not only to the forum users), but Cryptic as a whole. Imagine at a glance seeing the popularity of a post (say Official Blah Blah feedback Thread)... or being able to look at user requests, with basic up/down feedback from the forum base? Without having to read 100+ Responses.
Generally here on the STO boards, one shows support by not posting anything at all, and disagreement by cross-posting in multiple threads and redoing that several months later.
I would like a +1/check/agreement button so that the silent majority could help highlight tidbits the developers could find helpful, as well as other forum explorers.

Seems to me it would be useful datamining tool.
Thanks for the suggestion! I've moved it into the thread about the future forum upgrade so it can be considered along with the other great ideas in here.
That and there are still weird and lame forum restrictions on here that makes me think either the sever/software either can't or won't support suck an thing. I mean.. we can't even show pictures on this site without getting ported to an outside source. My Fleet Forum that I slapped together over a weekend has more functionality than this.
Live on Earth. Work in Space. Play with Dragons. Join the best add on to STO, the Neverwinter holodeck program! Only 14 GPL a month.

I actually concur. I don't think an up/down vote tool is appropriate, it'd get too 'snippy' too quickly on these forums. That said a simple +1 feature or upvote would be good. The forums over at MacRumors do this and it's nice.
Why is an STO forum issues thread not on the STO forums themselves? I don't know. But that was where we were directed to go for problems with the new forums (after the first changeover).
"Critics who say that the optimistic utopia Star Trek depicted is now outmoded forget the cultural context that gave birth to it: Star Trek was not a manifestation of optimism when optimism was easy. Star Trek declared a hope for a future that nobody stuck in the present could believe in. For all our struggles today, we haven’t outgrown the need for stories like Star Trek. We need tales of optimism, of heroes, of courage and goodness now as much as we’ve ever needed them." -Thomas Marrone
I don't think so. How many people actually go to an entirely separate forum for their tech issues? At least with an STO Forum tech section, you know that any help you're getting is for STO specifically.
If anything, the PWE support forum is pointless, because players will post in their own forums first before going to a generic tech support forum.
Part 1: Oh. I thought that was sort of a "duh" thing this time around, but I guess you have to say that.
Part 2: It's not that I'm not notified - I AM notified, but after I've logged in and looked around the forums a bit, ALL of my subscribed threads are marked as read, even if I haven't looked at them specifically.
You're forgetting the reason the global Tech Support forum was created in the first place. The individual tech support forums are generally for players to get help from other players for their technical issues since the creation of the global forum. If players are seeking GM/dev help for their issue, they're more likely to get a response at the global forum as the Tech Support team had wanted to provide a single location to monitor for game issues as opposed to monitoring 13 individual game forums--not exactly an easy task.
The tech support department has wanted this for a long time, so that we can communicate faster, easier, and more reliably in one location.
Therefore it's not pointless--both the individual and the global TS forums have their role. The individual forum basically is now for help from other players, the global forum is more for those wanting/requiring a GM response or the PWE Tech Support team to look it over in more detail.

Good point. I just don't get the impression that people know about it, or would really use it very often.

You will want to bookmark any threads you are subscribed to as subscriptions may be lost in the upgrade.
Is there an easy way to do this, or do I need to go through my list of subscribed threads and individually click, highlight, copy, paste the URL for every one?
Edit: I guess I could open them all at once, and do a ctrl+shift+d, and put them in a bookmark folder, but I think that would crash my computer, so if I do go the bookmark route I would still have to click every one. So is there a place in the STO forums that I can just export the list from, or something?
I hope that the transfer goes as smoothely as you're saying it will, Branmuffin - I vividly remember the flaming furball forums back in June. So, take two. Let's get it right this time.
...Sorry about that, chief. (tell me someone gets that reference!) I meant Branflakes. I keep thinking muffin.
If possible (and if not already suggested) then a link on our user profile which takes us directly to our game profile page (we used to have one of these, the game profile pages that is, though it has since been... removed)?
vb4 is hardly an upgrade its a nightmare in itself.
id love to see sto not only move off vb (to xenforo for example) but to also lose the annoying coreconnect fluff.
Here's an idea FIX THE PROBLEMS WITH THE GAME before you introduce anything new i'm getting annoyed with my shuttle needing repairs instead of the ship I'm flying I'm pissed that %90 of the time my fleet support either doesn't show up or it pops in to say hello then disappears,I know timing is perfect but does it have to be "Data" perfect. When i first got my Odessey pack i was over the moon but now I cant fight the borg on elite anymore and the points offered on romulan stuff is pathetic. You selfish people A.D.D. has you bored of the game we love to play so you give yourselves a harder challenge i wonder how many people aren't going on sto because the change is BS find a way for a level 1 to beat a 1000 day veteran without having to resort to scams or hacking, Would be nice for the underdog to get one for a change but i guess that's just the way life is, If this get me deleted so be it as i don't give a rats any more. Why waste time as I'm wasting my life. what is next. If you don't like what I say, Say what you want a good opinion is like a good idea. I'm not wasting another cent till this game is equalized I hate the fact that i got my borg shield def and engine for next to nothing and people today have so much BS to go through just to get 1/3rd. thanks and sorry.
Try and understand the Chaos factor or just understand the variable, live long and live life Gee.
i have't been able to play my game effectly, when i finally get it to run ,when i sign off then sign back on, i get a patch error, it seem to happen, right after the weekly patch.i have done every thing that tech support, say to do all it does gave me programs that TRIBBLE up my computer, it is starting to to effect my operating programs like my startup programs, sometimes my computer will crash durning a battle. then the only way i can get the game to run is to reloade the game. iam not the only one i notice that some poeple no problems , some do, and my computer is more then programs need and them some, when is the problem going to be fix so we all can injoy the world of starfleet.::mad:
I just recently came back to the forums after a long while... only to find out that my old account is no longer around, and apparently I have to use my PW account now??
now I look like a total noob instead of having been around ever snice the beta from the very start!!
So, uh... saw you link this in another thread talking about the addition of sub-forums.
Any date or time estimate for this happening? What are we looking at? Or is it in the best interests to spring it up one day to get it taken care with minimal fear mongering beforehand?
Can we please get the ability to search just dev posts? Right now we can search by a specific dev, but being able to go through all of them would be much more helpful when trying to pull up the relevant comment and thread.

Information on this is in the OP There will be communication before it happens, starting with this thread, and then when we have an official ETA. Right now, there are other games to go before STO, that way we can take anything we learned from those upgrades and apply it here.
Bran,
Will the new forum fix the broken Search page select? Basically, select the Dev Tracker, and try selecting the 2nd/3rd/etc pages, and many times you will be dropped back to the first page. Haven't been able to consistently cause it either. Sometimes it happens when I select the top page jumps, sometimes the ones at the bottom. Thanks!

Probably not for a long time. Until then, here's the next best thing: http://sto-forum.perfectworld.com/showthread.php?t=381881
