When I was back playing PWI I always hated the coreconnect as it took away from the stats of the vb board softwars. You have to google to find your old posts or threads instead of look in your user cp.

You can't use quick reply as well as the forum jump.Personally I like phpbb boards.

    +1 I miss this feature.

    Hello Captains,
    • You will need to re-upload your signature and avatar. VB4 uses a separate database, so you'll need to add these back in once the upgrade is complete.
    • You will want to bookmark any threads you are subscribed to as subscriptions may be lost in the upgrade.

These are pretty much it for the big changes. The other good news is what won't change. No posts should show as "Archived User" -- you should still be able to edit all your old posts. This is an upgrade, and functionality will remain intact, just make sure you get your signature, avatar and PMs are saved.

Well, thanks for the warning this time.

Does the second part I've quoted mean we will be able to edit ALL our old posts, even the ones that are currently by "Archived User"? Because that would be AWESOME! I'm just worried how it would work for people that had to change their forum name in the last debacle.

Unless, when you say "No posts should show as 'Archived User'" it means all those old posts will be deleted. That would be TERRIBLE! There's still plenty of good stuff in those threads, and it's good at least for historical purposes.

Additionally, I sent a report to CS, but the way subscribed threads work now is broken. Will it be fixed in the new forums? (The problem is noted here: http://techsupport.perfectworld.com/showpost.php?p=24131&postcount=37 Other people also have the issue.)

Mail will not be available out of the game at the time of upgrade. It's something we'd like to do in the future but there is no ETA I can provide.

The UserCP should be revamped. Check it out on Neverwinter and leave your feedback here.

Try setting your title from a different browser -- some browsers are causing title changes to not stick for some strange reason. The Web Team is investigating.

    Cheers,

    Brandon =/\=

TYVM for the replies. Bummer on the mail, but at least it's on your radar. I will check out the Neverwinter site and post back if I see anything.

And - thanks for the suggestion for setting title. It Worked! This post was my test. I was trying from Chrome. Changed title in IE, and it finally stuck. Thanks!

If you can not currently edit a post in question, you will still not have the option post upgrade. All old "Archived Posts" will remain "Archived Posts" -- what I mean is that posts you see now that are authored by you will remain authored by you.

We'll look into subscription to threads -- you might want to check out Neverwinter and see if you can subscribe to one there and then get notified about new posts.

    Cheers,

For example, the technical support forum is completely redundant given the official PW support forum.

I don't think so. How many people actually go to an entirely separate forum for their tech issues? At least with an STO Forum tech section, you know that any help you're getting is for STO specifically.

If anything, the PWE support forum is pointless, because players will post in their own forums first before going to a generic tech support forum.

Part 1: Oh. I thought that was sort of a "duh" thing this time around, but I guess you have to say that.

Part 2: It's not that I'm not notified - I AM notified, but after I've logged in and looked around the forums a bit, ALL of my subscribed threads are marked as read, even if I haven't looked at them specifically.

Possibly -- you can check out the Neverwinter forums now to see what it will be like. The login box may still jump as the site and forums do not officially support mobile browsers. To get around that, hit the "Login" link that normally displays where it says (when logged out -- it will take you to a static log-in page):

    Welcome, username.

Brandon, thanks for the tip, I've been avoiding the forums on my phone/tablet because of the same reason.

To clarify a bit since I had to hunt for it a little while...The standard top page of the forum, ( http://sto-forum.perfectworld.com ) has two ways to login, the one on the top right, and the one to the left of the ZEN ads, both use the popup. The method you describe above is not available on that top page.

However, if you select a thread ( http://sto-forum.perfectworld.com/showthread.php?p=6340261 ), THEN that Login option appears on the right hand side, below the ZEN ads. Could you make the Login options more consistent? It would be great if the Login to the left of the ZEN ads also went to the static login page, or if the other Login was always available.

    Thanks.

Check out the Neverwinter forums and see if that's in the UserCP -- I believe it is, but if not, I'll see if we can take a look at this.

I have a suggestion that I'd like to throw out for consideration. I've posted about it elsewhere, but I've been informed this is the best place for my feedback. I'm not the first person to suggest something like it.

What I would like to see is functionality that would let forum users "Like" or "+1" specific posts to show that it's particularly useful or popular. Threads with a lot of "likes" could be highlighted. This is already done informally and inconsistently, but there's no way to view at a glance which posts in which threads are getting the most positive attention.

Along with this, the Community Moderator would need the ability to modify the scoring of any particular post. For example, if someone posts information that is later discovered to be wrong, the score can be adjusted to de-emphasize it without necessarily deleting it.

This could have two huge benefits for these forums.

First, it could be a great way for PWE to identify feedback that the Community is in favor of. For example, this post could be "Liked" by enough forum users that PWE would be able to prioritize implementing such a feature, if possible. If somebody has a good idea or a legitimate concern, the Community can weigh in on it in such a way that PWE doesn't have to read a million posts to see what the consensus is or to find the good idea in the first place.

Second, it could be a great way to help the Community highlight posts that are factual and useful and help users focus on those over posts that are just rumors or that contain inaccurate information. Sometimes bad information gets shovelled around and it's hard to pick out the good from the bad.

This isn't foolproof, and I know it has good points and bad, but I believe it would help to focus the Community and PWE on the most important feedback.

I would really like to see this implemented. In fact, I'd like the highlighting to actually darken other posts with less support. Not by much, but by enough for it to be clear there is a distinction.

[*]You will be able to report posts for breaking the community rules. This system worked well in the past, and with VB4, this feature will return.

Make your web-team fix it... After all, different browsers is the least of problems for us web-developers theese days...
Don't look silly... Don't call it the "Z-Store/Zen Store"...
Let me put the rumors to rest: it's definitely still the C-Store (Cryptic Store) It just takes ZEN.

    Quoting myself from the OP:
We don't yet have a timeline for when this will go live for STO but I will let you all know when we've locked in a date. We are still a ways out, and other games will upgrade first. I'll keep you all updated as we learn more.

When there is more information to provide, I will do so. Although, if you go check out the Neverwinter forums (who went through the same change we did, and then the upgrade), you'll notice that most are quite happy and there was no fiasco.

No offense Bran... Really.. I mean this as no insult or diminishing on any level...

But me and my colleague daily work on integrating asp.NET, Visual Basic, MySQL and MSSQL solutions into a single Drupal site, while not having proper API's at our disposal, right now, while at the same time allowing Safari, Chrome, FF, IE 8, 9 and 10 to use it, as well as a workable Responsive design... And it works...

And I am not really that good... You guys need to assign some time for your web team to fix this... Cause I refuse to belive that they can't if you give them the time.

Of cause if it's IE6, then it's the user that sucks, and needs to get an update, but if its a newer, major browser... You really shouldn ignore it.

I -know- you know what "fiasco" I am referring to. You can hardly claim that STO's forums, when it was changed, went through "smooth sailing". All the old posts became "Archived Posts", all our old usernames became useless etc. So i'm sure you can understand how some of us may be a bit "jaded" and cautious in regards to any additional changes to this forum.
