Beat me to it, was just taking a ss of it lol... Breen Ship Box ... where's the typo?
Seems pretty clear to me.
It was always clear! So there was a typo somewhere, some place, some time. In the grand scheme of things it was made clear in EVERY other way including in the in-game chat server as this was constantly a question.
Inevitably, its a free ship, and a GREAT ship at that. Just enjoy the ship!
"The world ain't all sunshine and rainbows. It's a very mean and nasty place and I don't care how tough you are it will beat you to your knees and keep you there permanently if you let it. You, me, or nobody is gonna hit as hard as life. But it ain't about how hard ya hit. It's about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward." - Rocky Balboa (2006)

Right click on it in the store, or right click on it and hit 'Info' in your inventory. The first line in the description says the ship can be traded... theres even two asterisks preceding it to make it look more important.
Personally I think its nothing to get this worked up about, I have used the Breen ship and its a joke, I have switched back to my Escort Carrier, it might have been ok if they have given it a unique bridge, but apparently PWE has given up on bridges, the timeships had pathetic ones, the Vestas didn't have one and now the Breen ship doesn't have one, I imagine the 3 yr anniv ship won't either.
Right click on it in the store, or right click on it and hit 'Info' in your inventory. The first line in the description says the ship can be traded... theres even two asterisks preceding it to make it look more important.
It also says in big yellow (or gold?) letters right under the name "Bound to Character on Pickup".
Bottomline, yes they made a typo in having the description read "can be traded" but they made it perfectly clear in every way. Including in game, that the box is bound to your character.
Of course the user must read for any available method of information, but I also understand the people who just trust in the tooltips. Cause, come on, the breen ship, the big prize of the winter event, couldnt the devs put the right text instead of using a cheap copypasta?
Okay, out of the misunderstand you have had with the "trust(ing) in the tooltips", I will personally make it up to you. I will personally drive the Whaambulance to your house and give you a package of cookies, so you may have your just deserts.
Duder, its a FREE ship, that everyone had more than an opportunity to earn by doing some races! There really wouldn't have been much value in it anyways, a month later we will get a better ship. You got it for free, use it, love it, be its friend.

Lets make the assumption that most users are stupid... if you read the tool tip and info, the last thing you read (chronologically) in the info is that the ship is tradable. And Im sorry but "perfectly clear" would mean that this typo wouldnt exist...
Now I dont care either way. Tradable or not, its still a cool ship and I'm close to getting it, so whatever. (I do think that it having been account bound would have been a better idea, but whatever)
Who looks at the 'info' anyway? Most players just look at the tooltip. That's what I do. Plus, if you do look at the info and it conflicts with the tooltip, isn't that a clue that one of those is not correct? It would certain lead me to find out which is correct.

Im fairly certain that many people use the info box. Maybe to compare gear, maybe to learn more about the gear/item or learn about set bonuses. Tool tips only tell so much. (I myself look at the info for most every item I get barring consumables like batteries and hypos.)
Yes, having there be a conflict would certainly lead me to find out what is right, however most users... will just complain that they cant trade their ship.... Yes, its stupid (again, bind to account would have made more sense), but its the way the majority of (casual) users are.
Actually, most of the casual, average players never look at the info box, and many don't even realize they can, despite it being an option every time you right click something.

I dont know if thats true... but certainly possible.
the funny thing is, the small print says that it can be traded, while the large bold print says it cant be traded.
This, even if casual players don't read the devblogs or forums, you are neglecting the fact that the very same infobox you are reading has it listed as bound to character on pickup.
You had to bypass big bright yellow text to get to your otherwise smaller white text that said it was tradeable. I am not sure how much clearer Cryptic could be that it is bound to character other then have the text flashing neon colors.
Personally, I have never used anything but the tool tips and the news feed on the website.
I did not even know that the right click info was available for over a year:o (roommate has a sub). I went after the ship because the info that was available on the website indicated that it would fit my playstyle for my fed toon.
Side Note
Why does the federation not build a battlecruiser style ship? I think they did during the Dominion War but those were unfinished cruisers from what I can remember/discover.
considering even on the shop where it's sold, when you select the ship, it says "It is bound on pickup" its quiet obvious the box itself is wrong when it says tradeable. check the vendor, says you cannot trade it when you buy it.
So the mountains of information available via this website, various blogs and podcasts that have clearly stated for weeks that the ship is BOUND TO CHARACTER, mean nothing ?
"There's a TYPO on the box in the game !!!! REVOLT !!!
They must honor the words of the TYPO !!!"
This is a profoundly ridiculous idea.
It's your own fault that you didn't read the VERY easily available information regarding the ship.
Now, you expect them to suddenly make a ship that is EASILY achievable "tradeable"?
No
That has no room for exploiting whatsoever.
*shaking my head in disbelief*
dude, take it down a notch.. not everyone sits on this website like you and lives and breathes by every single word a dev says.. to be honest.. ingame wording is worth more than wording on the website, since this is a game, and it was stated it was tradeable ingame..
this is a buisness, if i go a store, and the box of cereal is mis labeled and reads its cheaper, they usually give you the price.. so cryptic needs to smarten up and be more diligent in the future on making sure things like this are clear "ingame"..
further more, you make it sound like this kid is trying to get the keys to the company over this.. no where have i seen him make any demand.. he is simply stating his being upset that cryptic dropped the ball as they usually do..
so take a chill pill, maybe log off and look outside (i know its gonna be bright and full of things your not used to) and stop acting like yours is the only viable opinion on the forums..
as for the op.. i feel ya man.. these inconsistancies can lead to a waste of time.. the moral of the story is you should try to keep track of whats going on in the forums and on the website, but dont feel like you are wrong to be upset by this.. its not your fault, it is theirs..
You totally ignore the rest of the point and focus on this part , okay.
You are claiming that someone , manages to be computer literate enough to download, install and play this game, yet they NEVER ever check any of the MANY sources of information about the game. They never check Email, or Facebook, or Twitter or the website. heck, from the sound of what you lay out, these people must just avoid the internet.
Fine. The only way that these mystical, magical people have to get information on the game is from within the game itself.
How then do they even know the ship is available ?
Seriously ?
How did they know the winter event was happening ?
Oh and lastly, how in the world did they ever find the STO Forums to come and complain about something ?
You claim "It's Logic !" to trust in the information in game.
I say "It's foolish !" to NOT supplement in game information with outside sources.
I guess , my inability to blindly trust everything I am spoon fed in the game, and need to go to forums and wikis and blogs and podcasts to become a better player makes me incapable of understanding the basics of your argument.
guy, half my friends that play this game do not come to the forums because of people like you.. secondly, it is a game.. case and point.. its not meant to be a research project.. also, some people who have limited time to play choose to spend their time in the game as apposed to wasting time out of it..
honestly, its a simple mistake, it happened, it is cryptics fault, and again, he didnt come on asking for anything, just venting and letting others who might have missed the total of 1 things mentioned about it being bind on toon.. (that is right, they only talked about it once in the news feed, and it is easy to overlook as it was in the description of the ship) its not like they caught the problem and tried to fix it like your making it sound..
So... how is someone not checking all the information available and not knowing the ship was character bind on pick-up (which is says btw on the box at the ferengi vendor) Cryptic's fault?
The only one at fault is the guy looking back in the mirror, not Cryptic. They specifically stated many times the ship was character bound. The item says "Bind on Pickup" in the store. Guess what! That's in game! Your entire argument is null and moot.
It is said the best weapon is one that is never fired. I disagree. The best weapon is one you only have to fire... once.

cause for a while, it said that it was tradeable "ingame".. i personally dont care, i dont even want the breen cruiser. and to be honest i almost didnt comment in this thread and wished i hadnt.. but i was sticking up for the op.. cause for some strange reason, you think that everyone who plays the game should log into the website every single day, read every post, and spend 3/4's of the time outside of the game rather than in...
i guess the glass is half full.. your obviously never gonna see it our way, and we will most certainly never see it yours.. so its not even worth arguing and possible getting slapped by a moderator..
i myself check the website a few times a week, i enjoy watching people "go at it" on the forums and ocassionally i get stuck in the muck too.. but i can see his point.. if something says something "in game" and it is wrong, that is not his fault, that would be cryptics.. ingame is the be all end all, no matter what things say on the forums or the website, everything in game should be worded the way it was meant to be..
the issue here, was that they just copied and pasted the box all the other ships come in, and all the other ships are tradeable.. so it stated that "in game". i know cause i saw this.. weather it says it now or not is mute.. so i can see the op's frustration.. do i think cryptic should give him something no. do i think he was on here looking for something.. no.. was he on here venting and making sure that others dont make the same mistake.. yes... and you guys washed over him and mentally beat up him over nothing.. it is not for you or anyone else to decide weather players should or should not read the website, or the forums, or a podcast, or anything else.. cryptic provides a game for us, we pay them to play it.. it is not our job to then go out of our way to accomodate them, but rather the other way around.. yes, the website, forums, and various podcasts a great tool, but ingame is the first stop on the gaming jurney for sto..
6 fracking pages over this and no one has stated the obvious fact that has and most likely always will be in place:
Free event ships ARE AND WILL ALWAYS BE Character bound on pick up.
Now please follow the angry Klingon with the greatly over-sized Bajoran "Gratitude" beads who will momentarily give you a valid reason for whining. lol

It's amazing people are arguing over issues like this.
Do you guys know what a cult is? Once people get obsessed with an idea(s), it's near impossible to talk common sense back into them.
It's a tiny mistake made by Cryptic. They forgot to change the fine print on the box, period. Obviously, it only affected a few, so there is nothing you should do about it, or can do about it. Sure some players didn't fancy reading the important posts in the forum, and I agree this is their fault. After all, this is not a game, it's STO (no pun intended). It should be treated like a college course, preview, review, learn, understand, remember, repeat, all that. Heck, remember in college you're supposed to know your professor's name? Here too. Remember the devs' names and cite them often. It makes whatever your argument sound authentic, and gives you right to talk down to other people, those who maybe new around here and still fumbling around. Learn the lesson.
Right click on it in the store, or right click on it and hit 'Info' in your inventory. The first line in the description says the ship can be traded... theres even two asterisks preceding it to make it look more important.
Yeah, it is a typo. Players have turned what should be a short thread about fixing a typo into nerd raging and personally attacking the poster.
Of course, it is hard to feel bad for him since it also says it is bind on pickup and since the OP was just going to sell the ship anyway, but still, Cryptic needs to fix it.
But most likely they will not, because the event will be over tomorrow and in the future the Breen ship will probably be a bind on unpack item from the lock box lottery or lobi store.
After my friend got 1000 Q's autographs, he bought the breen ship.
He wanted to sale it. The box info reads "tradeable" but it's wrong!
even when the box is unopened, YOU CAN'T PUT IT ON THE MARKET!
so... was it a lie?
you should listen to trekradio.net they have goo info and good music. that way even if u dont use forums u can know whats what and have some tunes to kill borg too

I'd feign stupidity about this if they'd do that. He seems like a pretty cool guy.
equal parts cynical and helpful

The developers have already addressed this.
Sounds like whining to me. Just take your free gift, or not, but this isn't an issue that need any more resolution.
Cheers!
