A nasty control + shield stripper build like Mai's would roflstomp any escort.

So do they teach this level of " self-defeatism" in the Academy or is it a trait of Engineers?

I know many players whom enjoy thier Engineers becuase they work very well at what they are suppossed to do as Engineers and without such Players many ground STFs are very hard to run as well as most any PvP ques are deadly without that Engineer Healing and support.

Yeah seriously OP, check my siglinks for guides on how to build ships.

If you aren't playing a lone escort to a standstill as an Eng, or decimating the escort with your Sci, something is amiss in your build setup and/or timing.

science, specifically the sci captain and snb, is still the key to pvp.

have a great sci captain on your team and watch out.

My main's an Eng. He's currently flying a Mirror Star Cruiser. He's not a healer. He lives in PUGland. He might spare an AtS, ET, or HE to an ally if the Escorts have given up plinking damage against him. He's got no shield love to share though - he likes to hull tank Tact Cubes in ESTFs for the lulz - so shields/schmields. Trics tickle. Sure, a Sci working with a couple of Escorts will make him stare at the respawn button and pout... but the only thing he really fears is this one guy out there that flies a DHC Command Bort that kills him every time. He can even tell when it's THAT GUY - because everything's fine and then he's below 10% hull in a blink of an eye...then pops.

    Guide - Space PvP

Be like that guy in the Command Bort...
...don't be the guy that complains about Escorts.

As much as I desperately love you and want you to bear my children, I have to say no to this.

Sci captains can make can make it easier to achieve what IS the key to PVP, but it is only one way to do so.

Now. How about you beam those child bearing hips over to my ready room? I'll make sure DDIS is gone before you get there. :D

This looks more like a guide to space PvE. Notice the lack of #5 - explode over and over, and #6 - spend half the match on engine power running from focus fire.

    To my Thissler,

Dear love and lust of my life, show me a nuked target, I'll show you a dead one. Not all of us have the gift of the BOPsplosion like you do. Try as we might.... Too many targets remain alive and with too much kick in them.

To elaborate: teamwork and windows of spike damage and healing are to me what makes pvp in this game. Capture these windows and watch your overall productivity, as any captain in any ship increase to be more of a benefit to your team.

    Forever yours,

    Horizon

I agree completely with the original poster. I have no choice. The last time I suggested Science wasn't completely worthless I incited a fair amount of childish rage.

Sci cappys, with one doff, also get a power that reduces whatever damage you'll do for the next 10 seconds by 45%. Just, y'know, FYI. It's Science's ability and role to pry both ways, reduce the enemy team's ability to deal damage and heal effectively while increasing the effectiveness of your team's healing and damage output. :)
If you feel Keel'el's effect is well designed, please, for your own safety, be very careful around shallow pools of water.

Spot on! And it is certainly true that a Sci Cappy can Nuc a window into existence. Us lowly tacs have to use other methods when those Sci guys are off doing whatever it is they do on thier day off.

Outside of team play, sometimes just waiting is all it takes. Or bluffing your target with a one buff attack. Not many defenders have the discipline to play the 'just enough game' and instead use the 'blow all my CD's and be uber' tactic, and once those defenses drop then it's the tacs turn.

Inside of team play it sure is teamwork on making those windows happen and having enough tac at the right time to exploit it.

    Cheers and happy flying!

Venting works! All those little tricks engineers can do serve dual roles. They blunt attacks AND they weaken opponents. This is something that I feel isn't fully appreciated by most players. If you dump plasma on an escort, unless he can correct that, there goes his attack, there goes his defense, and he's taking a bit of damage. (heres the edit: Before DDIS points out all the wonderful ways he can stack plasma damage I'm here to say that he CAN do it. So if you see him don't let him poo on you! It WILL burn!)

Maybe it's due to the circular shield icon that shows up around the ships but I think of each ship as sitting on a disc. That disc at rest is your ships health. At any moment, any tac could come up and shove you right off that disc. Any ship, any time, if you don't do SOMETHING to stop it, any tac can push you over the edge. Say you use an ability to strengthen your shields? That disc just larger. Now it may be to large for a tac to push you off, and if a tac can't do that all at once, he never will. EVER. Period. Nothing more to discuss.

But now say an engineer or a science comes along. What they do is they shrink that disc down to size again. Now that tac can give you that shove and lo and behold you're done. So when you look at a ship, any ship, your ship, in combat it helps to know what your looking at. Full health ship at rest doing nothing? That ship is in GRIEVOUS danger. No really it is. Half health half shields ship running TT maybe a TSS/EPTS and still has RSP or perhaps evasive on deck? That ships doing fine and it may be doing some major TRIBBLE kicking. Avoid it. Now stick that ship into some Plasma Poo and see how things change for it. If they don't have a way out, or they don't realize the counters that they do have things will go south very quickly.

It's a dynamic game. And something that some players are starting to call "effective health" can change dramatically in value VERY quickly. Knowing when that is occuring and how to manipulate those changes yourself (yes horizon, or as part of a team) is key to success.

PS: Just seeing some folks use the term "effective health" gives me hope.

Cheers happy flying and NO ONE better give DDIS a match. I mean it! ;)
