New Test Vendor for Reputation System - 20 December, 2012

zer0niusrexzer0niusrex Member Posts: 0 Arc User
We've added a test item vendor to Tribble!
  • The purpose of this vendor is for the developers of Star Trek Online to be able to receive and respond to your feedback on these items and powers, without needing to wait until they are available on Holodeck, and without requiring max-level in the Reputation system.
  • With that in mind, some of the high-tier rewards that won't be obtainable on Holodeck for several weeks may require polish.
    • There may be some bugs and placeholder animations or FX.
  • Season 7 Test Items:
    • Players may now visit a contact on DS9 that will allow them to purchase many different items that would otherwise require high tiers of Reputations in order to obtain.
    • Several store inventories are available, and include old and new Omega and Romulan Space Sets, Omega Ground Sets, and all of the newly-introduced unique items associated with each of these Reputations.
    • There is also a TEST ITEM inventory which includes Consoles for space and Armors for ground that will grant players the powers associated with the Reputation Trees.
      • Different variants are available, and each contains different powers.
  • This vendor is only going to be available for a limited amount of time.

Thank you very much for adding this in.

I know I could wait and see for myself, but since I'm at work and bored, what is required to purchase these items and such on tribble? I am hoping nothing so everyone can go hog wild and get some good data both for the players and for you.

Also, why a limited amout of time? And how much time is limited?

    Every item costs 0EC.

The vendor will likely be active on Tribble until our next major feature rollout, which may not be until Season 8. No firm timeline can be guaranteed, though.

on another note...im guessing there wasnt a patch today on holodeck?

considering how big it was it would make sense for it to be tomorrow :)

I find this line of replies sadly hilarious. We put a lot of work into the massive list of fixes/changes above, and ya'll are hung up on the ability to skip our content. =p

Frankly, I think the only sound advice that one can give new players at this time is to stay away from PVP in STO.

Thank you for adding this in, it has been greatly needed for some time. now if all the items on the C-Store would be available for testing as they come out as well that would also be brilliant.

Now make this a regular feature of Tribble. Very nice addition. Will test as soon as I can. ;)
TOIVA, Toi Vaxx, Toia Vix, Toveg, T'vritha, To Vrax: Bring in the Allegiance class.
Toi'Va, Ti'vath, Toivia, Ty'Vris, Tia Vex, Toi'Virth: Add Tier 6 KDF Carrier and Raider.
    Tae'Va, T'Vaya, To'Var, Tevra, T'Vira, To'Vrak: Give us Asylums for Romulans.

Don't make ARC mandatory! Keep it optional only!

Thank you again. Can I ask that when the next major roll out occures you keep this system in for changes like the rep system?

A few quick things to point out in regards to these items:

For the purposes of testing Reputation Space Powers, only equip one Test Console from each Reputation at a time. Equipping both from a single Rep may skew test results and experiences, as doing so will grant you both options from each tier which players do not have the option of doing in a real-world environment.

    Fun? Yes. But inaccurate.

This doesn't really apply to Ground since you can only slot a single Armor item anyway.

Also, there is a known bug with the Flamethrower, which causes it to behave erratically while in Shooter Mode. This is also the reason it has been pulled from Holodeck temporarily, while we integrate new technology to allow it to function correctly. It should work fine in RPG Mode.

What about testing the captain abilities gained at each Reputation tier? Will there be a way to claim those too, or just the items in the Rep store?

Actually they didn't say it would be used for future releases, that would be logical yes, but they only said that this would be going away at the next major release.

I applaud this... not only does it give us the ability to help you, but it gives up the ability to test stuff for ourselves to see what works and what doesn't. I think this would increase the usage that tribble gets as well as meaningful feedback rather that baseless speculation of OPness.

This was touched on briefly, but not really answered... why is the temporary at all? Why shouldn't this type of stuff be permanently available on Tribble? Perhaps if Tribble needs some resemblance of Holodeck, you could make another "anything goes, everything is free and available" shard that gets it's characters wiped weekly on a time schedule? (I know more shards = more work on your part)

The point being, every day someone comes up with a new build or idea, every week a new item or power tweak is released that could be problematic. I know there are plenty that have the time to spare and would love to play with this stuff and share the results with you. Allowing us to consistently be able to go get anything from a special vendor so we can quickly and easily see what is possible seems like a no brainier to me. What am I missing, what is the potential harm?

Thanks again, the test vendor is a great idea. I just wish it would stick around.

Also, how about having the vendor dish out free respsec tokens?

The Romulan Advanced Space Set seems to be an almost exact copy of the Reman Set save for ONE statchange per item. All the set bonusses are the exact same and even the description speaks of a reman set.

Is this intended or just some minor copy & paste error? Can we also expect some unique visuals for the Romulan Space Set? All I noticed so far was that my Bird of Prey turned slightly blue/green when I equipped the shield. The other items did nothing.

I have a question and some observations.

    1) Has the way the STF ground gears sets changed in the way they display? I know you can toggle the appearance on and off via the toggle display which is fine, but it seems we cant customize them any more.
So I bought a XII honour guard set for example. I can get the visuals to display but I cant set it to take off the helmet or the cape or change the colours. So is it all or nothing now, or should we still be able to change the appearance in the tailor, because its not letting me.

I was still able to make adjustments to my XI gear I had already purchesed pre season 7

    2) There was a visual problem with the MACO XI gear when used with the wells uniform. The toggle switch would only display the bottom of the uniform while the top still showed the Wells.

    3) The romulan XII space set, suggest the engines have a visual that can be adjusted but there was no difference to how they are normally. I would imagine they are meant to be green but they look normal no matter if you toggle them on or off.

Was hoping the romulan shield would make our ships appear Romulan (full hull) as the reman shield does.

To bad it's only a hull pattern coloured green :(

I have no space BOFF stations on Tribble. :(

EDIT: None of the characters that I copied to Tribble this week have Space BOFF stations (one for each patch we have had), all the older copies or Tribble only toons do have the stations.

This Plasma Flamethrower is sick, I'm killing large groups of Borg (including Elite Drones) in no time. The Borg can't adapt to the flames

It's terrible but easy, and these Borg are way cooler than the mess STO and Voyager left us.
May not actually be "way" cooler or even "slightly" cooler.

If this happens, just change ships out and back. The stations should return once you do so. This is the result of transferring characters from Holodeck to Tribble only.

Beats putting in placeholders and taking items out of live because they're broken. At least it's a step in the right direction.

Making the items 0 EC is a good idea too.

The Romulan Hyper-Plasma Torpedo Launcher isn't part of the Romulan Singularity Harness. Works fine for it being a torpedo launcher that launches 3 torpedoes in a second or two. Not sure if Torpedo Spread is working.
