actually thats true, since most star trek movies to date actually have a plot that is similar to this scenario.
a fan that is looking for that kind of movie will porbably not like jjtrek at all, i agree.
anyway, i'm gonna stop here since any further response is only trollfood and i think trollvax had enough for today.
"Critics who say that the optimistic utopia Star Trek depicted is now outmoded forget the cultural context that gave birth to it: Star Trek was not a manifestation of optimism when optimism was easy. Star Trek declared a hope for a future that nobody stuck in the present could believe in. For all our struggles today, we haven’t outgrown the need for stories like Star Trek. We need tales of optimism, of heroes, of courage and goodness now as much as we’ve ever needed them." -Thomas Marrone

Ah, Sylar He did well in that role, scary stuff. Though of course, Sylar's a better person to have around than a T any day.
And either Spock would be good too. Both are motivated by logic; the only thing that differs is situation, experience, and circumstances. Either would be perfectly fine
What do many of you think?
Was named Trek17.
Been playing STO since Open Beta, and have never regarded anything as worse than 'meh', if only due to personal standards.

Maybe so, but guess what? The "lovers" get a new Star Trek movie to enjoy, and the "haters" dont. The "lovers" get to feel happy and excited, while the "haters" get to feel sad and disappointed. Therefore, lovers win, haters lose
I'll admit, I'm going to go see this. If JJ Trek I was any indication, probably multiple times. However, I have to check a lot at the door to enjoy it. Hopefully this is a short spur off the main line and we will be back in the prime universe (TV or big screen) in a few years. I really consider JJ Trek to be fan fiction rather than serious Trek. You pretty much have to take it for what it is....
Otherwise you lose your freaking mind...:eek::eek::eek:
I'm starting to wondering if Cumerbatch is playing a relative of Spock, presumably Sybok. The hands on the glass scene seems to be involving Spock and 'Harrison', especially since the trailer shows Benedict inside a glass walled prison wearing a black shirt, and the hands on the glass scene shows two people wearing a blue shirt and a black shirt, while the voiceover talks about family.

This character is why I don't play my Romulan any more. Tovan Khev is NOT my BFF! Get him off my bridge!

Ooh, hadn't thought of that.
Cumberbatch isn't a Vulcan (no pointed ears) but he might be a relative on Spock's Mom's side.

I swore I could remember a screen shot of Benedict that people were saying made him look like he had pointy ears. Him being Vulcan could also explain reports of him withstanding a Vulcan neck pinch.
Around 2143, a group of these Vulcans left their homeworld aboard the starship Vahklas. The crew of Enterprise NX-01 encountered the Vahklas in 2151 while en route to the Arachnid Nebula. Their ship's captain, Tavin, requested some assistance in the repair of their propulsion and life support.
In truth, these Vulcans hadn't abandoned their logic but had simply learned to exist without the need to continually suppress their emotions. They still believed that logic was an essential part of Vulcan existence, but that it had to complement emotions, not exclude them. After eight years of experimentation, they claimed to have finally managed to find a balance between the two, through constant discipline and meditation. (ENT: "Fusion", "Stigma")
(The ideas of the V'tosh ka'tur apparently never caught on with the majority of Vulcans and it is unclear if their movement survived into the 23rd or 24th centuries, though Sybok presumably would be considered a V'tosh ka'tur. It is possible that their ideas were further discredited by the discovery of Surak's true teachings in the Kir'Shara.)
If he is Sybok, perhaps he is returning from some spiritual quest that has caused him to regain his emotional state. Vulcans are supposed to be incredibly strong, and capable of feats that would seem super-human. What stops them most of the time is their teachings on emotional control, but we've heard in the past that ancient Vulcans didn't have this, and nearly destroyed themselves because of it.

I have often thought that the TPD is actually a scam by a group of 24th century Grifters (conmen) with crude time travel
After all given a REAL fully functional timeship
Starfleet would ERASE the Borg from the timeline
Time travel is cheating. Starfleet doesn't like to cheat; that's why they created the TPD. Same with the Treaty of Algeron, where they agreed to not use cloaks.

See, I've watched the trailer and have another theory about something... the hands against glass at the end...
We see Kirk in a dark grey "uniform" in the few seconds before the hands moment in the trailer. It is the hand in the dark sleeve which is pressed against the glass already and Spock's(?) then moves to the opposite side of the glass.
What if it is the REVERSE of what we see in WoK?
Kirk is the one in the bad way and Spock is the one on the safe side of the glass?
Just a thought, just a thought...
Loving the Sybok idea, BTW, no reason why they could not be releasing trailers which have been touched up in some way to retain a sense of WTF!? in the film. Maybe his eyes WILL be silver, maybe his ears WILL be pointy...
"...we are far more united and have far more in common with each other than the things that divide us.”

It did sound like Pike in the voiceover. I suspect he will die in, or saving folk from, whatever nasty scheme Harrison cooks up to set himself up as the antagonist. This will also give his speech (presumably to Kirk) more weight and gravitas and reinforce the whole family thing, as Pike was a sort of father figure for Kirk, guiding and setting him straight in the first movie. He will lose another father figure. And his lack of humility means that the resolution to the whole affair will probably be Kirk's having to wholly and completely trust others, his new family - his crew, to get them out of the situation.
Comments
TOS spock would commend my logic and discuss in detail how to reverse the attrocity caused by the time slip
"prime universe" spock would talk in platitudes
"JJ " Spock would try and seduce my sister or try and beat me up
(Either of which could result in him getting BADLY mauled)
He forgets he does not have evil super powers in this film

Do you need an app to download it? I don't use apple products..
How did you download it? Every time I try to select a download option, it just goes to a page showcasing other trailers.
I refuse to install quicktime.
2.) That was Pike dressing down Kirk in the voiceover at the beginning, right?
3.) I see lots of overly bright lights.... AAAAAARRRRRRRRGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!
Yeah, not working for me.
I did find it here though with no need for any apple software: http://www.movieweb.com/news/star-trek-into-darkness-full-length-trailer
Maybe not nuSpock, since it didn't come in until after TNG "A Matter of Time". But Spock Prime should know of it, even if he's not Starfleet anymore.
