Crazy Ideas: Would you invest in a PvP kickstarter?

See my thread on C-Store kickstarters as well as the November Ask Cryptic.

What if Cryptic would fund the development of projects for the game in a kickstarter system. Let's say they come out and say: "Sorry, we can't make money making new Klingon ships / PVP systems. We just don't make enough money from them to be worth it. Unless we see some serious commitment by the players - more than we can normally ask from them, these things will not be done."

And let's say they offer a PvP kickstarter. A development project after which end you'd get a new PvP mode and a rebalance of all existing items, ships and powers. If enough people commit to it and invest in the kickstarter, the project will launch. If not, it won't, you get your money/Zen back, and that's it. If it launches and completes, every player will have access to it, not just those that paid, of course (so you're not necessarily getting any special privileges here, just the chance to ensure something gets done you want to have in the game.)

Would you be willing to invest in such a kickstarter? Under what conditions would you invest?

No thanks, it is too late for that, too late for everything.

I don't even want better PvP in this game anymore they simply dont deserve any of this.

This MMO and the meaning of MMO part simply failed and is a big disgrace. Ditch PVP and simply make it a Single player game with multiplayer PVE parts.

Oh btw, if you didnt know yet, they already milked us (PVPers) enough in terms of money, like pvpers really gave **** to cryptic and didnt throw a single penny towards this system? We need to grab even more money and throw it at them while they dont even recognize that even lots of pvpers spent tons of cash on this godforsaken game?

Well, that was an exciting kickstarter response now was it ? :O

If we get new, separate from STO "Star Trek PvP only" game based on STO space combat model. And a game that will be:

    a) subscription based
    b) kept running by Cryptic (no further investements from our side)
    b) have completely NO ties to C-Store
    c) anything that will be added by Cryptic to it will need our (funders) approval. If we say "no" to some sort of console, power etc it will mean that Cryptic says "Yes, sir" and don't add it.

Sorry even ifit was just running and tied by Cryptic only I wouldnt even trust them to make anything acceptable, they are incompetent and they have shown it over the years. they cant even fix PvE properly Lulz.

You know what? totally rip this game into two, give the other half to a proper MMO developer, and totally focus it on PvP, totally revamp the system, keep all the models, saves lots of work. make it 360 degree combat kkthx.

    Solved.

It's not as if I trust them. I don't even play anymore, though I miss my Ker'rat fix and pissing old good Star in his "true warrior BoP" :D

But under those conditions I may be willing to toss few $ into the kickstarter. Sure, it will be better if they gave up on PvP and licenced the STO model to someone competent for STO-PvP game. But this won't happen.

Even if there was a separate from STO PvP game, I still wouldn't spend money on it. I only began playing at the beginning of 2012, but from what I have heard and read on the forums, they have been making false promises about fixing/revamping pvp for several years now. Also from my experiences it is obvious that they are out to make money no matter what the cost is to pvp.

They brought out the Atrox carrier, and with that the Danube Runabouts. Many players complained about the carrier spam and especially the runabouts and what have they done about this? Firstly they released the Escort Carrier. Then they release the Vespa already with Danubes already in the hangar bay. To us PvPers it looked like they were taking the TRIBBLE, but it allowed role players out there to sit in STFs saying "Ok guys i'm going tosit back and send in my fighters to take out the Tac cube".

With regards to things like consoles etc. AMS has been frowned upon since the beginning of time, many players said it should be only usable on the ship it comes with, so they gave it to the Klingons as well.

Siphons had something done to it apparently, so HOORAY!! I dunno what tho, cos when I get siphoned I never stay in the match long enough to see.

Even if Cryptic said "right we're going to make a separate PvP game just for you, BUT your gonna have to subscribe to get it" I would not even trust them in the first place to make a game which gave the players what they wanted, let alone leave it that way without trying to turn it into another P2W money making venture.

The only circumstances under which I would spend money on a STO based PvP game, would be if it was produced and run by another company and if there was a system where players could create a game, choose maps, set rules like no Danubes, no AMS which block players from using/equipping them. Then make it available in the queues, and players choose from a list which map, and rules they would like to join. This would also hopefully mean players who rely on "cheese" would see less action and be forced to leave the game, or change the way they play.

Cryptic has no dev that even understands game balance. Even if they wanted to take this on, they don't have the talent to do it. Second problem is that they don't understand their own code. If you can't even change a simple Bo power like FAW or DPB to work correctly because their code is "too complex", how the he k could they pull this off?

I would invest, but not in cryptic. If another pvp oriented studio came in and made a completely seperate Sto pvp game, then I'd be in.

No, I wouldn't. I don't trust Cryptic or PWE enough to give them money even if it's allegedly earmarked just for pvp. They'd just pocket the cash and leave things as they are.

STO is just a chat box. Nothing more. Quite literally anything else in the game has become mired behind a two bit azn grind knock off scheme that I want no part in it.

Ontop of that frankly, we've already been basically told "new maps are impossible!" by various devs. They can't even figure out how to put respawn points into a map anymore they are so inept.

Fool us once, shame on cryptic, fool us for 2+ years, shame on us. To invest further into a company that has lied about pvp development up to this point would be a foolish decision.

I would invest in an STO pvp only game if it were not Cryptic that was developing it, because of all the reasons MT and Mavhax have stated.

Every Season has been more profitable and better then the last season. The staff has doubled, they might have even gotten coffee cups. Thats at least the official story, with that in mind....

it's not a lack of funding that is keeping pvp development back. Gecko and stahl are to blame. no one else, once they go on to do other things, or a team is hired with the explicit responsibility for PvP things might turn for the better. iF they manage to stay with the company for more then a month in those positions that is. As far as i can tell, a kickstarted holds no promise to initiate the changes that would be necessary to stop the detoriating condition of STO pvp

I thought that was basically what I did when I paid for a monthly subscription and eventually bought my lifetime account (just before they confirmed they were going to go F2P). I thought that was what I did when I invested my time and energy in testing on tribble and providing feedback on the forums.

I want nothing but great things for this game. The vast untapped potential keeps me moderately hopeful.

I do, however, reject the notion that we should pay to get them to support a feature they advertised when they sold us the game. PvPers already spend money and participate in the mainstream parts of the game. PvEers don't have to pay to play. Why should we? PvP is being treated like an after thought when it should be treated as a resource to appeal to a larger audience. Cryptic needs to diversify rather than putting everything into the PvE basket.

When we donate money to a charity at work, often times we can name the one we want to receive that money. I would be interested in filling out a short survey or suggestion card with each z-store purchase to tell them what portion of the game I'd be more interested in seeing my money support.

I've given Cryptic/PWE enough of my money for the past two years hoping for good PVP and lead astray. I will not be giving anymore. I stopped playing after seeing what a joke the New Romulus (Farmville) Adventure Zone was. They did however offer me a free Enterprise Era uniform unlock to come back(lol). Obviously im not their target audience and it's pretty much a given most of you in this forum are not as well. I appreciate your love for Star Trek everyone but it really is not enough to keep me PVPing in this game as I am not a TRIBBLE. I've been around almost two years so I don't need to elaborate on what would keep me in PVP as it's pretty much the same reason as other vet players have called it quits for the time being. If Stahl and company put in some try hard effort in regards to PVP I would be more than willing to dip my toes into the sandbox again on a more regular basis. *Drops mic* im out

why should we kickstart something as big as PVP with obvious benefits to the game as a whole? PVP shouldn't be a kickstart this should be something that they should've invested in.

PVP helps with endgame content, drives the in game economy, provides zen sales.

If Cryptic believed this to be true and working, wouldn't they have long done something like that?

They had how many years now to make PvP great?
Forget for a moment that this is Startrek Online PvP.

Imagine some game company would launch a "Startrek - The Fall of Khitomer" Online Game that focuses on a war breaking out in the Alpha Quadrant. They promise to launch a game focusing on a war between Klingon and Federation, and stretch goals also include Romulans, Breen, Cardassians and Dominion Troops, and maybe a Borg, Specias 8742 and Iconians as PvE factions.

They have a reasonable good looking engine for a free to play title and intersting game mechanics. And they have the license basically guaranteed as long as they can get the kickstarter off. Would you consider it?

If you're saying "Only if it's not Cryptic" - fair enough. ;)
